Every Nightmare has a Reason
Posted by mythsmoke Sep 13, 2001 07:19 pm
I am seething while I write, but what the hell...

1- Rules of discourse: Explaining a perspective is not the same as taking a side: If there are people intelligent enough to tell you why some in the muslim world celebrate as they do, listen to them and understand. Their explanation is not their belief. Understood? (As in bang your head against the wall, then ask same question – J(Ch)ay? Gawaar-dung? and the hamidm-carrey joker?)

Just to recap this perspective: why the hoohaa about these deaths when there was none for my nation (Lebanon 1982 – 17,000 butchered, raped, killed). These people were robbed of their innocence a long time ago…when they were looking at the barrel of a gun with the label – funded with US military aid. So they celebrate.

The media in the US has no right to ask Why? Why? Why? They are responsible for feeding the watered drivel referred to as news, to their citizens. Lets run the footage of the intifada, the 1982 invasion, 1986 shelling of Canaa, for a full day on US news networks…perhaps the American people will understand the hatred against their country then? Perhaps, they’ll understand that it doesn’t help to vote for leaders whose unflinching support to an eyesore of a country in the Middle East breeds this pan Arab-Islamic retaliation. After all, there’s more to the world than the Jennifer Anniston’s new hairdo and the Kidman-Cruise split. Ultimately the people of America have been let down by their leadership…. (sorry folks just explaining the perspective..not my belief).

Now the same news networks with their usual, sloppy reporting standards present the raw data of an investigation in progress. They show scattered celebrations in Middle East as proof. Result: mass hate crimes, in the US, mosques vandalized….i feel like we’re in Ayodhya back again.

2- Pakistan’s role in this sorry mess: Collin Powell needs a few lessons in manners – you ask for help, not demand it. Pakistan will offer the opportunity for indirect dialogue with the Talebaan – its territory might be used to stage an attack. Pakistan should resist unfortunately it cant…..it will be left to bear the cost, once American rednecks clear out after the Afghan adventure. Look for major destabilization in Pakistan post this adventure as the Talebaan backlash begins.

3- Brown sahib or Brown Dung?: Would like to believe you all and your passionate pleas for retribution against Pakistan – but lets just wait for the final outcome of the investigations. The average (Caucasian)US family definitely has a dog in the house – looks like all the dogs are barking tonight – that is what a dog is supposed to do, after all.

4- The Clash of Civilizations : Hunnington was always right. Hold on folks this is gonna be one heck of a ride.

Oh what has become of the intelligent forum,

looks like the beginning of a temptation island quorum,

we had progressed so swiftly so far,

but the replies seem to be coming from a singles bar,

from TNT, national identity, to a country’s soul,

its all degenerated to discussion on kabab roll,

its all the fault of that Gawaar-dhan,

starting it off with the puerile pizza pun.

Mr. Gawaar-dhan

Looks like I touched a raw nerve with your libido, there. You might as well flip me the bird or stick your tongue out at me

My logic professor once told me that one should attack the argument not the one who proposes it.....hmmm...I wonder if there was any merit there?....I guess not…..

as for Pizza…..I like Pizza……I just had one…not too good….too crusty….kinda like India with secularism…..lots of cr(ap)ust but very little cheese.

Cheers

Why do we have so many perspectives on the two-nation theory?

If i were to step outside my myopic garb...i can only say that nations and movements are not created on the basis of integration...have you ever heard of a leader who stands up to say that all`s well...we are all brothers ...lets go back to our homes....

One man`s revolutionary is another`s traitor....

Ultimately for any tract of land that has a heterogeneous population.....the responsibility falls on the majority group to sooth the nerves of the minority....if it is unable to do that...well..then we`ll have two nations wont we?

now people may choose to judge Jinnah as an opportunistic demagogue (who, by this description, inflamed communal passions) but the fact is he identified a schism that `others` wanted to gloss over....

I suppose what is disappointing is that the lessons of the past have not been learnt....hence we have the babari mosques, the barbecued priests, the Bal thackerays.....now we might choose to shrug and say well that’s just the fringe elements...is that the case? if it is who`s voting....? after all, it is democracy, which brings such jingoistic rubbish into power, doesn’t it? We’ll be tougher on Pakistan..we’ll review facilities provide to minorities…we’ll do something about that mosque….

Sad commentary on secularism….yes I think the two-nation theory has failed but not for Pakistan.
