Hakim Said Assassinated
Posted by NAJAM Oct 26, 1998 10:44 am
This despicable act of terrorism has left the Pakistani nation in utter shock. The question that keeps bothering all of us is why kill a man who was so kind and sincere? It seems we are living in a jungle where only those survive who learn to accept the rule of fear and violence. Anyone who raises his or her voice against injustice and violence becomes a target.

The government has totally failed to protect the law abiding patriotic citizens and if something is not done now we may see an ugly part of our history being repeated. Anarchy if left unchecked can destroy the strongest of nations and we dont have too look too far in the past for examples.

Pakistan is a victim of a great conspiracy and Karachi seems to be the cornerstone of this conspiracy. What really makes all this painful is to find our Intelligence and Law enforcing agencies totally helpless and useless. The time has come for the creation of a National Security Council, as cleary the political establishment has failed completely as far as the Karachi problem is concerned. The new COAS must fulfill the timely advise of the Ex Chief of Army Staff, General Karamat.

The media would want to float Conspiracy theories

but what has happened is an action of a General who is known to be honest patriotic and thoroughly Professional. General Karamat in any case was going to retire in 3 months so to avoid another crisis over his suggestion of a National Security council, he decided to call it a day. We all know that the Chief of Army is a very strong individual and the Prime Minister really cannot force a resignation. Pakistani`s should be proud of the tradition that the Armed forces are trying to set, which is of remaining away from politics and concentrating on Defence matters, however I would also stress that at cerain critical phases the Armed Forces do need to keep a check on the Government especially in a country like Pakistan where politicians have been far from what they promise to be.

Cry my Beloved Country

Pakistan was never ready for democracy, the answer to our problems can only be now answered in 2 ways:

1. Present Govt making a sincere effort

2. A technocrat Government

3. Revolution

I think if the first scenario doesnt happen soon we will find an upsurge amongst the exploited people of the country who will take matters into their own hands. This is of course a very dangerous scenario with serious implications for national security.

The only way Pakistan can wriggle out of its serious problems is by good governance, if the present government still wants to do its duty than nothing has been lost, some fast and radical steps

can take the country forward by leaps. I would like to list a few:

1. Collection of taxes from the rich

2. A total destruction of feudalism

3. A massive Literacy programme

4. Austerity at all levels

I dont know why but even in the midst of gloom Iam sure that our country will survive and attain geat heights of success and honor, lets do all we can for our country, our Pakitsan.

A Pakistani Teenager in Canada

MHS:

The fact of the matter is,we may be in America or Canada but Pakistan will always be our identity. There are some unfortunate Pakistani`s who get dazzled by all the wrong things that the western culture has to offer and in this process forget all the great things that are offered by their own heritage, but do they ever get identified as Americans? NO!! they will always be Pakistani`s and that`s a fact that none of us should forget. Pakistan`s respect and honor will always raise our respect and vice versa so we should be proud and thank Allah that we have our own country and identity. Freedom is not something that should ever be taken for granted and those who do often loose it for years to come

Chowkwalas Interview Pak. Law Minister

QUESTION: Do you think Pakistan will succeed in getting its money back by taking USA to court which has been done recently?

QUESTION: Making laws in one thing but what has been done to ensure justice that is speedy and not too costly for the ordinary Pakistani?

So, Are You Pakistan?

This is in reponse to the question ``what can i do for my country`` . Ofcourse we have obligations to our family but why cant we at the same time do a bit for the country I dont think the two things are mutually exclusive.

There are many ways in which all of us can play a part and it does no matter whether we live in or outside Pakistan, infact in some ways those living abroad earning in foreign exchange can help more.

Sending foreign exchange to our banks is only one way of helping. Overseas Pakistanis can set upschools and hospitals in Pakistan they can set up education funds abroad with which to help needy Pakistanis wisihing to study abroad. Similarly those living within can do a number of small things which dont even cost much. How much does it cost us if while we pray for our families remember to say a small prayer for our country. How much does it cost if each one of us sponsor just one child, we are ready to spend Rs.500 for a dinner in a top restaraunt why cant we set aside a similar amount for one child every month. The fact is we dont have to do something major even small sinccere actions can help our country in a big way thats the beauty of large numbers of people, but the secret again is a genuine love for the country.

Say Something Let’s Talk

Yes perhaps we will only realize the true value of Pakistan when we lose it, I sure would want to be dead befor anything bad happened to my country.

Saima: I hope your article can get some of us to wake up and realize what is going on around us and how critical the situation is.

So, Are You Pakistan?

Pakistan may be in difficult times but all of us have to ask just one question. What have we done for our country?

No one is going to help build our country we have to do it ourselves. It dosent matter whether we live in or outside Pakistan the will to contribute must be there, thats the only way our future will be better than our past or present.
