Pakistan Alert: Revolution in the Making?
I take this opportunity to ask US Administration that why do not they talk of civil rule or democracy in Saudi Arabia, Gulf or Emirates? I am sure Saqlain and many others know the answer. Why Chechens in Georgia have been taken on by Russians and NATO or US is silent admirer? Why any Muslim fighting for independence or freedom is labled a ``terrorist``? Who was Nelson Mandela and his people, a terrorist or freedom fighter?
Well it is time that Western so called democracies help the under-developed un-democractic countries, by putting in place elaborate plans to give them 90+% literacy and 99% Clean drinking water...so that people start learning ins and outs of what is a democracy and what is the value of their vote.
Till such time they should support any rule which gets back the looted wealth from cronies and pay up IMF and World Bank.

I whole heartedly agree to the views of Saqlain on self centered policies of US.I take this opportunity to ask US Administration that why do not they talk of civil rule or democracy in Saudi Arabia, Gulf or Emirates? Dear Cyber surfers,
I came to this site after reading an article in a daily newspaper of my country The NEWS. I never surf on net, but however I was forced to come to this site to let my views known.
1) Those respondents who are from outside Pakistan, studying or working, please look in the mirror (apne geraban mein jhankoo) and give a call to your parents and find out how much tax they paid to Government in the last 10 Years. I am sure much less then they paid for your tickets to travel outside the country.
2) I wonder how children of serving government officials manage to study in USA when they a are drawing a salary of less then 600$ per month? (My salute to those children who have made on their merits or scholarships).
3) The point I am driving through is that we are all hypocrates of highest order. On one hand we are good at being a critic and on the other fail to perform our basic duties towards our nation...pay taxes.
4) Like any other business or corporate set up it is the Finance which is the core driving force for the health of the corporation. When treasuries are empty everybody blames everybody and try to jump the ship. So did NAWAZ by staging this drama.
5) There are reports in World Bank and IMF, that 50% of the development funds given to the country landed up in the pockets of politicians and their cronies, one way or the other. Whether it is in the shape of Written Off loans or Commission layers in large development projects.
6) The letters of Zeemax and AINAWAZ are totally devoid or realities on the ground. What democracy are you people talking about:
a) In a population with literacy of 30%. (45 Urban and 20% Rural, where 80% of our people live in Rural areas.
b) 80% of overseas Pakistanis prefer to send their money back home through Hundi, just because they get 8-15% more.
c) Income disparity at the highest. On one hand you have unskilled workers earning $60 pm and on the other on same scale unskilled workers with self-employment of shops and ``Thellas`` earing $700 pm. In skilled class one hand you have $100 p.m. to $1500 p.m. In multinatinals it goes upto $5000+ p.m. The law enforcers are paid (the constable on street) US$ 45 p.m. and their supreme commander the IG is paid US$ 500 p.m.
The West keeps on talking of civil rule and democracy. Where were they when looting and plundering was going on, even during Moeen Qureshi days?. Why doesn`t West realise that all their loans with profits would have been paid if there were Tax payers and above board rulers in the country.
Why doesn`t west talk of democracy for Saudi Arabia, Gulf and emirates? Just because major USA and EU business interests are there? Or is it because of Oil?
Zia intervened to clean the country, but could not do so, since the west got him busy with the task of keeping the Russians out in cold. In the process he got exposed to US Dollars being pumped to keep the Russians out. So he got distracted and derailed. I hope this time West does not use Musharraf to get Osama and get him distracted.
Gentlemen, give me a break..... Now is the time please give up your irrational replies to Bilal`s letter and ask yourself one question, WHAT IS IT THAT YOU CAN GIVE TO THE COUNTRY.....PAY ALL YOUR TAXES....Like you do while living in USA or Europe. Open BANK ACCOUNTS IN PAKISTAN for Dollars or Rupees. If we all do this we do not need US A.I.D. or EU help.
If we put our Finance / Treasury in order all Agencies like IMF, WORLD BANK will come running to us with all their funds....since they will know that their money will be put in best use and they will get paid back.
I am a self made man, started job at age of 19, (1971) and YTD paid taxes of apprx. Rs 2.0 million to my motherland, after migrating from East Pakistan (thanks to Bhuttos). I shall lay my life for the sake of Federation and security of the country.
Bilal, I sincerely pray to God that may he bestow all the strength your father needs to a) Recover all ill wealth stashed abroad from politicians and business persons b) Recover defaulted loans c) Recover past taxes d) Get rid of all criminals in our society e) Clear all the pending cases in Courts both civil and criminal and deliver justice to citizens on time f) Improve the income distribution g) Implement rules of law, so much so that no one dare violate a simple traffic rule h) Give a common person access to Clean Water, Good Education and Health benefits.
