Although it really does not matter what I think, but I tend to agree with ``Poonawala`` that being a journalist ``Ras`` hardly shows any obejectivity and balance one expects from people of that profession. Having said that, I think Ras has every right to feel proud of his national heritage, whether Junon or Noorjehan or Rima.....

Urstruly, have not read your article yet, but thought post this in your board. We should be aware of all the evil designs that are obstructing peace in our two countries. http://www.rediff.com/news/2001/nov/30inter.htm

Don`t you think, there is an inherent problem with our creator?

Ali1, denial indeed is the South Asian trait, we wish somehow the problem goes away. When we try to do something, generally it is a full blown cancer, and nothing can restore it back, even amputation is not enough. Here at Chowk or somewhere in other website, we come, flex our muscle, us, the pot-bellied financial controllers, the doctors, the engineers, the professors, the writers, express our opinion at the middle of the night, while humanity slips away deep into darkness little by little. Just look around in our world, what do you see?Don`t you think, there is an inherent problem with our creator?

Farzana, Do you know why there is protest against Sarhadein? So far, the story seems quite reasonable, and Amir Basir suits the role perfectly, while Smita Bansal is OK. What I liked is that typical jingoism is not there. Hope it can keep it that way.

Hamidm ji, ohh...your bird sounds so delicious, I wish I were in your town. To share another secret to make your Turkey little bit subcontinental, stick in some garlic cloves and small red chillies in the bird before roasting, the aroma of chill-garlic makes it very interesting. Actually, my American friends can testify they like my version than the traditional... And to make the stuffing, put in some ground spice along with some chopped cilantro and chillies.........

There are plenty of good books available on Hinduism, if you are serious, I would suggest you first read Swami Vivekananda`s complete work or Dr. Radhakrshnan. I heard people at BHU from other disciplines than Philosophy used to gather to listen to Dr. Radhakrishnan. Internet probably will not be a good medium to get into such heavy matters. Regards
Bapu/Bijli....
Please bring back your saner personalities, please, pleeeze. I thought you got better as you were talking some sense through Fatimah. What happened? And please do not assume any more new identity, every time I come to Chowk, I find some more new handles with same writing style. When one can easily detect an imposter, then where is the fun of faking? If you have substance you will come across like ``Bijli`` all the time no matter whether you are ``Bharadwaj`` or ``Lajwanti``. No mudslinging please.....it hurts.

Humzadji, what are you trying to prove by posting all those numbers? People whose opinion should matter to you already believe that Islam is a great religion and do not need to read all your posts. People who won`t believe that in spite of zillions of your such posting should not matter to you at all.. So why such redundance? There are plenty of good books available on Hinduism, if you are serious, I would suggest you first read Swami Vivekananda`s complete work or Dr. Radhakrshnan. The story goes like a Hindu girl (Chandni) from India desperately falls in love with a Muslim guy (Aman) from Pakistan (now both in Malaysia).... We need more Chandnis and Amans.. Amen

Hi all! sorry to digress from Deewali, but has anybody in Chowk had any chance to watch any episode of ``Sarhadein`` on Zee TV? I like the storyline, a bit fantasy may be, but good to have these fantasies around when reality is hitting hard to steal the innocence of mind and heart. The story goes like a Hindu girl (Chandni) from India desperately falls in love with a Muslim guy (Aman) from Pakistan (now both in Malaysia).... We need more Chandnis and Amans.. Amen

And what will happen to Hamidm? Would there be any position like ``Birbal`` for him?
The way it is going, it will remain a dream for many of us. We probably will not be able to see it in our life time. An American friend of mine was asking why India and Pakistan are so hostile to each other? I really could not answer him.....

Regarding Balis/Slaughters.
I am out of India for last 17 years, and had not gone back to India for Durga Puja since 1993 (oh, how I miss Calcutta during Puja!), so my knowledge is not up-to-date, but slaughters were really not done in the puja places I have ever been, it is the pumpkin or squash (symbolic) which is slaughtered for many years now (counting from my childhood). For example, Ramakrishna Mission which completed 100 years of Puja this year, never had a Bali. It was the instruction from Sarada Ma to Swami Vivekanananda that being Sanyasis they should believe in the ``mangal`` of ``Sarbabhut`` that is everybody, and should not seek any bloody path for that.
Farzana probably has come across some, I am not sure whether it is the Kalighat she is talking about. But all practical purposes, bali is indeed a thing of past.

Yes, one never experiences the same joy of celebrating a festival when one grows older. For me, I try to find joy when I see my child or his friends are having fun or when the guests enjoy a well-cooked meal, very mundane I suppose. Yes, there are injustices in this world and I try not to think about it during the celebration as I do not have any way of removing it. Rather, I can minimize it by being good to my family, friends, maids, neighbours. Surely, one can do that although some time it may be very taxing.
Happy Dewali to all of you.

If a regime which gets charge of the state for more than two decades and then ruin industry, education, law and order, what credibility does that regime have? West Bengal`s performance is there to see for everybody, I am not hiding or exaggerating anything.
So you mean to say Bangladeshi media should not be beleived.
I can see what Eklavya and Dost-mittar were trying to say.

Sigalph, I am not going to address any more post to you. And I do not wish to see a reply from you. People can see for themselves, it took merely three posts for you to bring the Kashmir card. Why, Hindus in Bangladesh are asking to separate, is it? That`s a news. If a regime which gets charge of the state for more than two decades and then ruin industry, education, law and order, what credibility does that regime have? West Bengal`s performance is there to see for everybody, I am not hiding or exaggerating anything.
