Re: #102

your sources for this information are...?

talking pretty big aren`t we? Imam Al-Ghazali didn`t start making a statement about any religious matter until he had memorized 12000 pages of religious literature and assuming you got your information from some website or an article which just like you quoted no sources i can only trust every word you say. i`m fortunately stupid and brainwashed unlike the lucky girls in playboy who get to prance about in thongs i`m stuck here acting like a real human...tch tch tch..i mean you wanna talk about sterotypes boy you go right ahead and call every muslim woman a burqa clad idiot cuz that just makes the rest of the women equally idiotic sluts so u watch what you say cuz u aren`t making very smart statements here and i`m hoping we both know here that those two extremes are equally stupid..but its okay i won`t expect too much of you..don`t wanna pressure the ol gray matter now

Coming Home to a Foreign Land

can`t help posting this..and let me tell you its sung and written by a GORI not an oppressed poor thing in a burqa oh yeah how could a burqa clad woman write it anyway, she probably wouldn`t have the education to write my bad i forgot...just shows women are treated more or less the same everywhere! (excuse the generalizations and the stereotypes..just trying to make a point)

Just a girl- no doubt

Take this pink ribbon off my eyes

I`m exposed

And it`s no big surprise

Don`t you think I know

Exactly where I stand

This world is forcing me

To hold your hand

`Cause I`m just a girl, little ol` me

Don`t let me out of your sight

I`m just a girl, all pretty and petite

So don`t let me have any rights

Oh. . . I`ve had it up to here!

The moment that I step outside

So many reasons for me to run and hide

I can`t do the little things

I hold so dear

`Cause it`s all those little things

That I fear

`Cause I`m just a girl,

I`d rather not be

`Cause they won`t let me drive

Late at night

I`m just a girl

Guess I`m some kind of freak

`Cause they all sit and stare

With their eyes

I`m just a girl

Take a good look at me

Just your typical prototype

Oh. . . I`ve had it up to here!

Re: Bijli #30

I completely agree with you bijli , its amazing how we are so dam/n conditioned that anything the west says make so much sense. Its a sign of how we, Asians, in my opinion, are still mentally colonized. Its sad that the slavery our fore fathers fought so hard to free us from, we now embrace ourselves so willingly.

Perhaps its time we took a stand for our own ideas(the right ones, which in my opinion don`t include honor killings! :P) and perhaps its time I had the right to express my discomfort with something thats alien to my religion and culture (although you won`t generally find me rooting for culture but thats an altogether different thing)

without being labelled as biased etc.

I didn`t mean to offend and no I have no bias against gay men, I`m quite indifferent.

I really was curious cuz its just a different combination of words.

Oh my god...could this article get truer?? I don`t think so! And I totally agree, the last type, I think its just there to keep us women going you know...like you hear about somebody`s friend`s sister`s aunty`s cousin`s son is like that or something and then you think..maybe..maybe there is still hope..but I don`t know..so far if i have met someone close to that type they`re always hooked so :(

absolutely loved it, you should keep psychobabbling honey cuz its very entertaining :)

and men need a good dose of truth every now and then.

Soulmate?
Posted by Vaneeza Apr 14, 2001 12:37 pm
this article was too stereotyped...

i mean `good desi boys are close to their mommas?`

hello!

it sounded partly like a hindi movie plot where the son talks to his dad through the mom.

and i`ve never understood nor will i EVER understand this thing about having to discuss your choice of a marriage partner with everyone from your grand aunt to your third-cousin living in germany. yeah sure talk to your parents, they brought you up but c`mon draw the line there cuz all these other people are so not gonna be around to really care whether your marriage works out fine or you have trouble.

anyway marriage is a looonnnnnggggg way away for me ( i`m 17!)so i don`t really care about all this stuff..just thought i`d share my thoughts

:)

1) A woman`s testimony is not equal to man

2) A woman is not entitled to the equal share in the inheritance laws.

These two above mentioned features of ISLAM shows the crass Gender Inequality that Islam engenders.

I pointed it out in my last two posts, but surprisingly the Educated lot chose to remain oblivious ...plz come forward and negate it...

I`m sure this isn`t going to go through the heads of people who don`t want it go through their heads but i`m offering my explanation anyway :) According to Jeffery Lang in his book,Struggling to Surrender he explains it as below.

Firstly, the verse in the Quran (2:282) which states this two women equal to one man`s testimony thing is mainly dealing with protection of business agreements and the avoidance of later contention. Facing widespread illiteracy, Islam set strict standards to guarantee the terms of a business contract and, in so doing, reduced the possibility of deception and misunderstanding that often, atleast in the past, would have been settled violently. At that time, and for centuries to come in almost all societies, women were in general less educated and less proficient in financial dealings then men, and thus the Quran required the witness of a man or two women.

In eight places, the Quran has instructions relating to the giving of testimony. Two of thse refer only to swearing an oath and not to testimony in general, and the other six refer to testimony (2:282, 4:6, 4:15, 5:109, 5:110, 24:4, 24:6-9, 65:2). In all cases except 2:282, no specification on the sex of the witness is made. There are many examples in the hadith collections where women`s testimony is accepted without corroboration and, sometimes, where the testimony of a single female witness overrides the witness of several men (he`s given reference to a book, Role of Women in society by Fazlur Rahman).

Additionally, many of Muhammed (pbuh)`s sayings are accepted in the canonical collections as authentic in spite of the fact that they have only a single woman as their source. From these observations, many modern writers contend tht verse 2:282 was never meant to be a general stipulation.

He goes on for a page and a half further explaining this verse.

Now, for the inheritance laws thing...well from what I know, and I am still learning...women, for example me, I have a RIGHT on everything my dad owns or any property he owns for that matter and I also have a right on my husband`s property/wealth. BUt it is NOT vice versa. Thus when Islam proportions a bigger share to the man compared to the woman, its because his wife, daughters, sons all have a right on his property and thus he has to share it with them, however once I`m given my share, I don`t gotta share it with no one :) I`m not sure whether a mother has a right on the son`s property but I think she does.

Anyway I hope this justifies the `crass inequality in ISLAM`

Peace

The Day When God Died

That was a truly good piece of writing...to say you write well would be an understatement

the descriptions were particularly vivid and imaginable..but i think you wrote that article for peope to get something more than the descriptions...unfortuntely i didn`t quite get the end but i can most definetly relate with you on that fear of death that lingers with you in a dark, ugly corner of your mind at all times and you just push it away everytime you rememember it saying, `` no ones dead yet..go away, lemmee live,``...its crappy knowing that everyone is going to die..and whether or not you go first, someone`s gonna be stuck crying, suffering and regretting...

i too, like another reader spent a long time checking whether or not everybody`s breathing or not just before bed when i was a child...and heck sometimes i still do when i feel like someone`s sleeping too still..death`s just a..i don`t know what it is...all i know its something i don`t want happening to anyone i love anytime soon...u know whats even more surprising...how we let selfishness slip into even this aspect of life..notice how i say `anyone i love`...why I love? cuz i`ll be hurt..i`ll suffer....it`ll be me in a bad spot...who knows, maybe its just me being so selfish but somehow or other i believe that selfishness is a disease afflicting almost all of the human race...okay sorry i`m getting carried away..but thats a great article, kinda vague end but great anyway.

Wassalam

Marital Rape

Salamz everybody,

I agree with most of this article...

People in Pakistan do have a deeply misguided view of man`s `right` over his wife and they love blaming the situation of women there on religion when its something that originates from lack of education really or rather the really crapped up interpretation of islam...

Its really sad to see how even the police are so messed up that they don`t recognize a problem when they see it...

Oppression of women in Pakistan: Myth or Fact
Posted by Vaneeza Dec 31, 2000 03:33 am
okay...

well firstly mr.egal...(get a shorter nick, this one`s too long to type!) you really oughta have been clearer in what u were saying cuz i`m not the only one who thought what u were saying was stupid...

secondly, ppl usually lash out on the veil (which by the way is not mandatory in islam, its a completely voluntary thing) and not hijab..infact i know lots of `kafirs` who get the logic behind it and are okay with it...

thirdly...what was it u said? something about a woman wearing hijab being brought up thinking her actions were such that she had to cover?? well u`r mistaken here too...believe me a woman in hijab can do anything..hijab doesn`t stop me or any woman really from flirting, seducing etcetc...its really depends on the individual and not what she wears how she wants to conduct herself...hijab really has very little to do with ones actions...

more like someone said, to ward of sick losers...

and lubna #152, i totally agree with you yaar,

these ppl really need a life!

okies, HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone ...please get away from your computers for once and explore the world of reality..u may learn s`thin new!

Peace...:)
