This is a lovely piece. Thanks for sharing your deep emotions with us. Not everyone gets an oppurtunity to experience this unconditional love in their lifes, you are one lucky person who was given a chance by god to share some wonderful moments of your life with an equally beautiful person. Condolences to you and your family.
Sincerly

Living Through War

Since 9/11, people have changed their entire perspective about islam and other muslim countries.Pakistan being one of them, since it has been in the media somuch. Its been hard on us Pakistanis .Esp those people who are living else where other then Pakistan itself. I have been a student in Us for the past 2 yrs. Came here a month or so prior to Sep 11. I have seen the changing attitudes of my colleages. I remmember the day right after 9/11,as I walked into my sociology class and I could literally feel alot of eyes upon me.
And Just yesterday, in my Religion class, my professor was teaching us about islam and he told the class that islam teaches one to love others. And an American girl in my class said and so thats why they kill ppl in the name of religion. I told her to look back a little at the Crusades, what was that abt?, it was done in the name of Christainity. Every religion in this world teaches one to love others, then why did the Crusades happen?. She could find no answer to that. Concluding my point, I told her that you cannot just base a generalization about the religion as a whole, if some people did something that our religion prohibits. I have tried alot of times to keep quiet about it, but sometimes they have to be told..........
O Karachi

Its true that the Karachi you remmember has changed a tremendous lot, but you see we are talking time here and i beleive that anything and everything in this world changes with time. You cannot claim that the city and the people have gone down a 100 % transformation. The places you have described above still stand and the life style is still the same for many people. But ofcourse there will be a slight change, do you want them to be called backwards?, they are moving according to the demands of this century and if you look back at America some 15 yrs ago, or any other country, you will surely notice a change in people and their attitudes and as far as the buildings or structures are concerned, nothing is forever and nothing is ever new, which can go for you, for me and for everyone else.

You call this a poem?

Hey Dina
I am not denying anything that you have stated here. I completely understand the pain you have been through. But, I would say that you cannot generalize all South Asian men, coming to USA to be this way. I am a Pakistani student in US too and during my stay here I have met and known some South Asian men who are in very dedicated relationships with white females and intend to pursue further. Yes and I have met those too who do it for mere timepass, but arent good and bad people everywhere, belonging to any race or ethnic background?. You met one of them, you wasn`t devoted enough and left you half way through, not keeping to his words, but that doesnot mean that entire South Asian male population will be how he was.
