i have always been interested in punjabi lang and culture because i thought it was fascinating and a way to connect with fellow non-pakistani punjabis like you i have always relished the shared punjabi culture with indian punjabis (my best friend is an indian punjabi) .........in your case , punjabi is a self-sustaining lang. and culture in my case i picked up punjabi in my ever-so-brief stint at KEMC in lahore...........for me the emphasis has always been on a urdu (if any of you can relate to this) ................i was always upbraided by my mother (thaano saara engrazi lafuuz a day patha laqun eek lafuz urdu nahi andi) looool i mean my mom was telling i dont know how to speak urdu properly in punjabi............in pakistan it was always looked down upon by educated people to speak punjabi.......would a educated pathan look down at speaking pastho or a sindhi his lang?......no its only in punjabi.........the perception that punjabi is a paindoo zaban has to be modified or the richness of the punjabi culture will be lost to pakistanis for generations....................i have an issue with one thing you said punjabi has to be written if it is a language and not a dialect (ebonics of urdu as one mohajir friend of mine put it) then it deserves to be written in its own script!!!!!!!

thanks for the response.....i wanted it to hear fromt the air marhsal`s mouth with family-members that served in the military i know romair`s ``mentality``.........but i think you are right .....morality dictates the least pakistan can do is ease Bangladehs`s burden by taking our own citizens.......i think you are an indian muslim....i was reading that in the 50s and 60s many indian muslim doctors lawyers etc came to pakistan for economic reasons is there still a trickle to this day? how do indian muslim people view pakistan? i have met the anti-pakistani hyderabdi type.............so who is most likely to be ``pro-pakistan``? what does rafique zakaria think?
