Peace in South Asia

to anyone who can answer?

1) is the federal shariat court packed with islamic scholars with islamic training or legal jurists or both

2) what if civil law says one thing and shariat says another whose law gets enforced?

now going back to one lets take egypt they have a al-azhar and their civil courts , sadat like zia passed an amendmentt to the constiution saying sharia is the primary source of legislation........now in the case of the Islamic scholar who was ordered to divorce his wife based on percieved blasphemy a lawyer with no training in islamci law passed a judgment on a religuous matter .......this is what we have i dont know based on what my father told me , law school in pakistan you had 1 max course on islamic law .......now if we have islamist lawyers in egypt and pakistan who case by case are ready to dismantle the gains of civil libertarianism through litigation what can we do ??? there is only one answer rescind the Objectives resolution ..................

urstruly and other concerned pakistani patriots,

my fellow patriots ,

one of the hallmarks of a healthy democracy is the toleration of dissent .............in pakistan if someone says we need the dismantling of islam what will happen? what if they say the army has to go????????? or that pakistan is doing bad things to its minorities??? urstruly whatever u say on MS roy is garbage cuz in a democracy we wouldnt to worry about whether she helps or hurts her cause---thats india ........can asma jengahir make a trip to india and talk about out many faults? how long will she live URSTRULY ? answer me? enough of this us vs. them nationalism --pakistanis and indians are cousins........... we rant and rave about kashmir and gujrat? look at our kashmir --direct federal rule -----listening romair--------our christians???? it makes me sad that pakistani patriots who happen to be xian feel not at home in the land of their birth like ana.........indians can teach us a few things or 2 what can we teach them: corruption ? military rule? fundamentalism? dishonest diplomacy? tell me one positive thing pakistan has contributed to the world i was reading an islamist newspaper in america which i showed YLH once .....the Read Mirror they have an online poll:did pakistan live up to its expectations that were set 55 years ago--yes or no???/ can anyone on this board in good faith answer yes???????????

great article . well written, mature and intospective. as i was reading the article i was surprised at some of your views namely on nuclear weapons.. in retrospect , guess you are right if pakistan didnt explode we would have gained great moral credibility and the same with kargil i totally agree it was a disaster.......i just want to say im honored to know you and call you a friend if i can dare say that , i agree there have been many errors on my part in our time of knowing each other .......i miss our conversations on pakistani nationalism very much ........you have left an indelible impression on me sir and if i visit lahore i hope i can look u up??????? lastly the views of pakistanis in pakistan and those of pakistanis in the diaspora differ greatly why is this????????

best of wishes

fawad

Happy 56th Anniversary, Pakistan and India

yasser ,

how many people in power in pakistan share your vison of a succesful , progressive pakistan? the intellectuals? the army? the middle class? the industrialists the feudals? without the destruction of the feaudal-army-mullah nexus you cannot achieve anything....if you empower the middle class you wll get somewhere ......if imran cant become prime minister what can a man/woman in pakistan do to change things????? pakistan doesnt even have an indepedant judiciary.....when my father used to practice law in lahore he used to tell me verdicts were pre -set between prosecutors and judges........the exective is the govt in pakistan..............forget all this liberalism vs conservatism stuff it is important but its an aside ......my good friend talk about the IMPLEMENTATION of democracy and rule of law.....

three immediate things

1) the independance of the judaciary and the execution of court orders

2) the eradication of corruption

3) a divide between civilian and military powers

if you can somehow tell me how the above three can be implemented in pakistan i think there is hope without the above your vision of jinnah`s pakistan is a mirage in the Sindh desert

peace and best wishes

your friend
