And then there was The Impeachment Issue…
... seems to me those defending the lawbreaking general are either doing so out of ethnic loyalties ... or out of a clerical mentality (i.e. the retired faujis ...)
I believe the former to be correct. That appears to be the overwhelming reason. The retired faujis formed the ex-servicemen association and exposed musharraf, remember?
Quite ironically, this particular ethnic group at the same time claims to be the most 'educated' in the country.

From Marx to Mao to Jintao
Some ten thousand participants with their human forms alone and without the aid of any computerization, but through memorized movements alone, formed shifting shapes of a gigantic abacus, to a computer keyboard to various Chinese characters - perfectly synchronized.

One particular display in the opening ceremony was revealingly characteristic of the Chinese determination, unity, and direction. Some ten thousand participants with their human forms alone and without the aid of any computerization, but through memorized movements alone, formed shifting shapes of a gigantic abacus, to a computer keyboard to various Chinese characters - perfectly synchronized.
From Marx to Mao to Jintao
The following passage is 100% accurate, and shows how false some people's thesis is that Deng reversed Mao's direction and turned capitalist because Mao was wrong. It is also a confirmation of my contention that Deng merely switched rails, and those too only partially, when it was time to do so.
China is truly 'One Country-Two Systems', a concept the western capitalists scoffed at when Deng announced this perplexing and seemingly self-contradictory policy direction upon regaining Hong Kong. They were all proven wrong. It only worked because Mao had built Society to accept State over the Individual, without question.
Both Russia and China, especially China, have turned Marx’s theory of historical materialism on its head. Instead of using a mass revolution to expedite a transition from a capitalist to a communist stage, they have used the revolution to move fast from a feudal to an industrial society, bring about a revolutionary change in the class divisions in the society and induced rapid improvement in human development in terms of education and health. These are a pre-requisite to a fast take-off for an economy. In doing so, they have also shown that dictatorship of the proletariat precedes rather than succeeds Capitalism.

I am not so sure if the impeachment process will succeed ... corrupt individuals who have been put on the Supreme Court by Musharraf are probably even now looking for legal loopholes to declare the impeachment to be in unconstitutional.
There's no constitutional way to stop the impeachment. The musharraf lawyers (Pirzada etc) are quoting article 184 read with article 199, but those do not apply to the president. Impeachment has no right of appeal.
Besides as HP said, US seems to have given its go ahead, so it won't influence the army. This appears to have been the main item on Gilani's visit agenda.

... NS and the paindoos of Raiwind will be getting a rude political awakening and will be defeated ... It appears that the smaller states will eventually bind together to defeat the punjabis' politics, once and for all.
I have no idea how it appears so to you. Have you seen the numbers? Perhaps it's wishful thinking on your part.
The numbers in favour are increasing by the day, and today's report is even MQM is in two minds whether to back musharraf's sinking boat, and be even more isolated as it is now.
In my opinion, NS with his center-right politics is a high risk game for the US, and would be cheerfully sidelined by the next US president.
Who cares? Certainly not NS nor most people in this country.
... this so-called coalition charge sheet (the one that I read on Daily Times, was so ridiculous ... would just crumble in the parliament.
Just a single charge out of the list is enough to hang musharraf - subversion of constitution on 3rd Nov 2007 - which he has admitted himself. That charge is beyond debate.
Some PPPP parliamentarians are against this impeachment process anyway.
You mean Amin Fahim? How many MNAs/Senators support him?
And with the lack of western accent our long-necked PM has already become a disgraceful personality in the US corridors of power.
He's a night watchman PM. Everything will change once musharraf is ousted.

Scenario 3 is likely.
The ruling coalition which held the press conference yesterday controls 303 votes Vs 295 required to impeach in a joint-session. That's just nine votes to break for Musharraf so he'll fight hard. I suppose it wil be about Rs 1 billion per vote.
Nilofar Bakhtiar (of para jump fame) will ultimately hold the key in which way she'll swing along with her 'like minded' group of six anti-Chaudhry senators.

Synopsis of an unplugged conversation between 'Mindset' and 'Me':
[Begin]
Mindset: A smart non "elected" asshole is better than a non-smart "elected" asshole.
Me: Let's suppose the smart non "elected" dies tomorrow due to natural causes, who will take his place? If his son takes the place, will you support the son as well?
Mindset: I wouldn't just support the son. The army allows upward mobility. Military governments are good with the economy.
Me: So you'll just support the next Army Chief?
Mindset: I wouldn't support just anyone - no.
Me: So you wouldn't support just any Army Chief, but only a 'good' Army Chief?
Mindset: No no you don't understand. I would support a good secular politician too.
Me: Oh ok. Though, the only good secular is Altaf Hussain, but rest of Pakistan hates him. Another good secular is Asfand Yaar Wali, but even his own co-linguist tribals hate him. Anyone else?
Mindset: The politics of the common man sucks who're mostly Punjabis. You paranoid, chauvinist, racist, fanatic immoral ...etc etc
[The End]
It still remained unresolved, however, that if the smart non "elected" asshole kicked the bucket, who would the 'Mindset' like to see in his place.

This article as well as many responses are reflective of a certain mindset, which thankfully stands defeated and is now quite irrelevant, though some people still desperately cling to it.Synopsis of an unplugged conversation between 'Mindset' and 'Me':
