Why Doesn’t the World Care?
Today Mushy was again on radio and TV begging for help and cursing world for not doing enough for earthquake.
Choice is for Pakistan to make. Beggers can`t be chosers. If you need help, than accept it from anyone willing to help you. If you want help at your own terms, than be prepared to face consequences of other rejecting those terms.
Already you have seen 73,000 deaths as those consequences. Your choice!

why are you indians in such khujlee over what the world thinks of pak when i, as a pakistani tax payer dont give a rats ass?
That is the problem Faisaluno. World will start caring if Pakistan start giving atleast a rat`s ass worth of attention to their own situation. I again repeat. Pakistan lost a great chance at furthering peace when it rejected Indian offer of help. Mushy baba found all kinds of ulterior motives behind Indian offer. Most probably he was remembering his own behavior when he engineered Kargil. He couldn`t believe that someone can help without doing a kargil to his back.
Pakistan has to get over its suspicions and start believing.

I thought that subject of this article is ``Pakistan`` and title is ``Why doesn`t the world care``!
Do you by any chance think otherwise?

“than there are thousands of non-government agencies, that could have provided volunteers, doctors, paramedics etc.”
I don’t read papers with enthusiasm but I don’t recall reading any such suggestion from any Indian source. It was always Indian government help. Why did Indian NGO’s and Doctors groups not come forward on their own?
My dear HP,
You should read newspapers. SGPC (Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee) offered to help. It is a huge organization of sikhs, and has huge resources available.
If you do not want to read Indian papers than you should read Dawn. Mushy said that except Kashmiris no-one else can be permitted to cross border.
You should have also read comment by your foreign minister (or was that Maj General Faroq Khan) on day after. Comment was ``if India want than we will send them help``.
I will again bring your attention to this false sense of bravado and pride. Indians had offered to help immediately after this calamity. Tone of Pakistani response is now well known. If Pakistan really cared for its people than a polite refusal would have been sufficient. It would have been sufficient to clarify the type of help that it is needed.
All we saw was ``chest thumping``..
There is no chest thumping here $25 million don’t go too far and would probably be raised before India could even cut a check.
$25 million if spent on army, or if spent in US$ do not go far. However, they go far if people get paid locally and supplies are procured from local agencies.
BTW, Are you sure that more than 10% of contributed money will reach actual destination?

To some posters-
Indian help would not have amounted to much. India and Indians should help Kashmiris in India and that is good enough them. The refusal was correct as it would have created security and other problems. After so much noise, Indian could only muster $25 million. I think they should use that money to help Indian Kashmiris or Indian poor.
May be they should buy auto rickshaws for all the poor pulling cycle rickshaws, an affront to humanity.
It is this kind of chest thumping that is leading Pakistan nowhere. Immediate need after earthquake was of medical professional, of people who could provide real help. Would throwing money from a helicopter have helped earthquake victims?
If Pakistan was concerned about not using Indian government help, than there are thousands of non-government agencies, that could have provided volunteers, doctors, paramedics etc. Primary reason that didn`t happen is because of this false notion of pride and ego.

You had me for a moment with ``Romairian analysis`` phrase.
I would beg to differ. While American public may not know about all nuances, their opinion makes (talk show hosts, etc etc) are aware. Everytime they mention ``a helicopter getting shot at``, you loose few million dollars worth of aid.
Pakistan`s tit-for-tat show was in news (CNN, BBC) etc for few days. After that people just got tired..

Your analysis is quite correct. World is not helping Pakistan because it does not see Pakistan willing to help itself.
Pakistan allowed 73,000 Kashmiris to die rather than taking any help from Indians. While it may be good for the ego of Pakistani Army and Pakistani`s elite sitting in Lahor, Karachi and USA, it is not good for poor Kashmiris and world recognized it that way.
While Pakistani common people had to die because helicopters were not available, Indian helicopers were not used. Why do you think Nato and USA are not willing to deploy more helicopers? Because they are being fired upon on whatever they deployed!!
World also saw tit-for-tat medical aid camps. Whatever was motive of Indian aid camps on its side of LOC, Pakistan`s springing up camps for Indian Kashmir`s on Pakistani side of LOC was taken as proof that Pakistan is not serious and just playing games.
World also saw Mushy`s statements saying ``no budget cut`` for defence. Why should world help Pakistan when Pakistan wants to use its own resources for defence purchases rather than buying urgent material.
This ego building exercise by Pakistani military and elite is just resulting in more and more tragedy for Kashmiris.

You write
The winners: foaming-at-the-mouth and full-of-hate Indian Hawks and the Kashmir Jehadi Group.
what about Mushy and Gen Farooq Khan, head of your relief operations, who will rather let 60000 people die than allow Indian to provide relief. They are not hawks!! are their now hawks in Pakistans?
You must add a point to your strategy
Pakistan’s Strategy
0) Dismantle all jehadi camps in Pakistan
1) Distance from those who committed the crime in Delhi
2) Ensure the world Pakistan has nothing to do with it
3) Work with India to catch the culprits and bring them to justice
4) Expedite the peace process with India

My neighbour lost his son, daughter-in-law and grandson in Sarojini Nagar blast.
``is it very difficult to understand that the average Pakistani is not responsible for terrorist crimes like this one? ``
Read following extract from todays Dawn news paper
``So could it be the same between India and Pakistan, the world’s most angry rivals? I don’t think so. The Indians were just a little too eager to get a close look at Pakistani army installations and mujahideen camps behind the LoC, and just a little too eager to put their political footprint on Azad Kashmir, though their help would have been useful.``
If average Pakistani is not not responsible for mujahideen, why are such camps permitted and protected by Pakistani establishment? Didn`t average Pakistani give 99% mandate to this establishment.

What a logic! why will governments that spend more money in F-16s rather than basic infrastructure not be a more attractive target?
Governments will not accept readily available help and than beg for `white man`s` help - why are they not more attractive targets?

It appears that begging ``Goras`` for relief is ok. If neighbourstry to help than you will start putting conditions.
Romair saheb commented what will Indian soldiers do. India has one or largest pool of medical professionals in world. Indian army para-medics could have easily been para-dropped in remote areas. They are trained to walk long distances with all their medical supplies. How many life that could have saved? But it seems that Pakistan will allow its 100,000 Kashmiris to die rather than accepting help from India.

I am surprised at the mentality of umair khans on this board. They are begging for NATO planes. Will they ask NATO planes to also arrive without crew? Why not? It appears that begging ``Goras`` for relief is ok. If neighbourstry to help than you will start putting conditions.

Is this umair khan same as Chowk`s Romair? Why one should scream at NATO`s refusal? Will not Pakistani army expect NATO planes without crew? Why will NATO agree?
Why not scream at wrong priorities set by Pakistani army where they keep buying F16 to bomb neighbours but won`t create infrastructure to help their own citizens.
Why not scream at Pakistani airlines which refused to carry relief material donated to NGOs? If you need to scream, scream at Pakistani government that is reportedly charging import duties on donated tents unless tents are donated to Prime minister`s relief fund and a receipt taken from embassyis sent along with material.
Scream at head of relief operations who one day says ``no joint operation with Indians - joint operation will be like rubbing salt to Kashmiri wounds``, and next day talks of ``Indians are not helping us.``
How can one help a nation that doesn`t know how to help herself? Scream for that nation!!

I am sorry but I am not playing blame game here. I am tired of Shri Umair Khan`s peans in favor of Pakistani army and military government. And now he has guts to say scream ``for NATO refusal``. Shaukat Aziz the idiot was on CNN for full 45 minutes on first day of quake, perhaps basking in glory of airtime of given to him. He basically acted as a unpaid reporter for CNN.
Best thing Pakistan could have done was to open borders for any and every kind of aid. Pakistan would have got 10s of thousands of more volunteers with their equipment. There is nothing in Pakistan (or that matter in India) that is not already photographed through satellites.
