Government Wins Manmohan Singh Loses
Posted by devkant Jul 24, 2008 05:31 am
i completely agree with arjun.

hats off to MMS for going ahead with the decision to operationalize the nuke deal. india is growing and is hungry for energy. all sources are welcome.

as far as nuclear testing etc is concerned, once india does business with west, i am sure a lot of things can and will be over looked. money is the best balm for a lot of problems....as our mps proved it!!!!!

amongst all the crap that has been dished out on this board so far, i have just one basic question.

how the hell did manto aka yasser latif hamdanii manage to get his green paki book???

did he sign on the dotted line about his late father's faith?????

"The birth of a female child is usually unwelcome one in the subcontinent. Parents favor the male child over the female one, and the girls usually have an inferiority complex due to this factor and are unable to achieve academic successes"

not in my case. a male child for me would have been unwelcome. thank goodness i have a daughter.
Movie Review: The Kite Runner
Posted by devkant Jan 12, 2008 08:23 pm
The kite runner was a brilliant piece of fiction...certainly one of the best i have read along with 'a time to kill' by john grisham. the book beautifully captures the life in kabul before the war.

while i am sure i will be disappointed with the movie (as someone rightly said that its difficult to capture everything in 2 hrs), i will still watch it once it is released in the uae.

Look, Taliban are not terrorists. They are freedom fighters.

Hail Zeemax....the saviour of the worlds, lord of the rings and every other title that may be bestowed upon someone who can utter the above B U L L S H I T. I though i had seen a lot of crazy stuff, including my own sometimes, but this takes the cake.

with people like you around, the world is wasting its time looking for the taliban in pak - afghan border.
Benazir Bhutto Killed in an Attack
Posted by devkant Dec 29, 2007 04:47 am
yasser, i never wrote of her planning her own assination. i wrote about the sucide attack in the crowd that may have gone horribly wrong. please remember that she escaped the first attack completely unharmed despite the bomb blast taking place as close to her as the second time.

also i am sure you must be aware that a few people have raised fingers at mushy accusing him to have his own convoy attacked twice.

this is a ruthless power game and she was very well at playing it. if you realy ask me, no one will ever know who killed her.

and about the comparasion you make with other assinations, i don't think they can be compared simply because the politics in india and usa is not as voilent as in pakistan. no one in india or usa had to resort to voilence to prove a point (excep in recent times in india).

voilence has been a part and parcel of pakistani politics since its inception. so nothing is impossible there.

you may choose to ignore what i say, but i wouldn't like to give bb a clean chit.

yasser, i don't know if she killed her bro. maybe no one will know that. but the fact that the brother of the ruling PM is killed in a shootout does raise a few questions of suspicion.

second thing, it may be insensitive what i have written, but make no mistake, bb was a ruthless politician and she would gone to all possible extent to get what she wanted. didn't she make a deal with mushy to come into pakistan to become the PM????

if we are going to debate each angle of her death, why do you want to leave this one out????
Benazir Bhutto Killed in an Attack
Posted by devkant Dec 29, 2007 03:03 am
this could sound crazy, but could it be that bb organised the sucide attack that horribly went wrong????? or that she organised the sucide attack and someone else added the gunmen who killed her.

she could have done something like this to project to the world, specifically the americans that she was the only true savior of pakistan and rest all were a bunch of jihadi jokers!!!! hence she did something like this to get their support and isolate mushy further.

also i am sure she was very capable to doing something like this, especially after she got her own brother killed!!!!!

again, all this sounds crazy, but could it be possible?????

yasser, i am sorry to know about the demise of your dad. I pray to god for his soul to rest in peace.

while i may not agree with what bj said, i would like to agree on one thing though.....celebrate the life of your dad. from your writings, he lived a good clean and most importantly an honorable life...and i think that is a good cause for the celebration of his life. i'll make sure take a drink in his name tonite.

rgds,

My Dear Pakistanis, I am sorry for the sham democracy and so called freedom of speech and fundamental rights which have interrupted normal services. Normal emergency services along with suspension of citizen rights will resume soon bringing everything under control!!!!!

its a pity something like this happened in bombay, which is otherwise known for hosting such shows with a high degree of professionalism. perhaps the event management company was not competent enough to realise the importance of this concert and the stature of the singer. otherwise in the past shows of maestros like pandit ravi shankar, shiv kumar sharma, zakir hussain, jagjit singh, zubin mehta etc have been held successfully and handled very professionally by the organisers.

How Dubai Works
Posted by devkant Oct 31, 2007 10:05 pm
arre baba....all those getting excited about cyclone please note that the place has shut down. now whether it is temporary or permanent is anyone's guess. they shut it after the tiffany hiest in june / july this year when jewellery worth USD 20 mn was looted in full public view. those thieves even gave poses for the security cameras!!!!!
How Dubai Works
Posted by devkant Oct 31, 2007 12:31 am
i live in dubai and believe me the place is not as good as it is being made out to be. some of the problems: -

1) It is completely artificial. i don't think anyone can relate to it, even the locals.

2) Labourers are exploited mercilessly. all the talk of id day break etc is fine. someone pls do a reality check on their salaries.

3) Racism, though subtle is pretty much thriving in dubai.

4) living costs have increased by more than 50 to 70% in the llast 2 to 3 years. prices of daily groceries and provisions are increasing needlessly.

5) its best not to talk about the print and visual media here. since i come from india, i find the standards of television and print journalism appaling.

6) the telecom company here etisalat prides itself on being an extremely hi tech co. their techies need to just hop across the arabian sea to take a look at the telecom industry in india and compare the levels of service, costs and technology. etisalat guys will have to run for cover.

7) they have formed a new telecom company called du to give competition to etisalat which was the sole telecome provider for over 30 yrs. however, when du was launched, the sheikh incharge for telecom said that du and etisalat will not compete on costs, but only services!!!! who the 'F' cares about services when costs are so high.

there r many more, but lets stick to these for the timebeing.

"#19 Posted by MantoLives on July 31, 2007 4:27:43 am The movie was great even without that line... but something about getting Naseeruddin Shah (who played Gandhi in Hey Ram) to praise Mahomed Ali Jinnah was a brilliant move."

yasser, i hope you understand that naseeruddin shah is a professional actor and from what i have read about him, he does not mix his personal feelings and views with his work. hence don't read too much into the move of nasseeruddin shah praising jinnah. it is all about business, nothing personal.
