The opposite of love is not hate but indifference. That cliche really holds for us Indians and Pakis.
Indians and Pakistanis are anything but indifferent towards each other. And the opposite of love is hate. Indians and Pakistanis have nothing but hatred towards each other, clearly reflected in Chowk interaction between them. It’s not good for the mental health for those who actively participate in the hate-slinging, nor for their nations. Their deep-seated hatred for each other is astonishing.

There was once an NBC TV Drama “The West Wing,” which portrayed how the President of the US dealt with issues.
In one scene, the President holds a closed-door meeting with the Indian and Pakistani representatives. After the meeting was over, the President’s aide asks him, “How did it go?” To which the President replies, “Just shoot me.”
It says quite a bit about these two people. What an ugly truth. Chowk proves it loud and clear.

A while back, I wrote an article, Pakistn Under Its Ethnic Shadows,
about the ethnic problems in Pakistan (for which I was much condemned.) If we don`t advance the concept of ``Pakistaniyet,`` Pakistan is doomed.

I have also read the book. Great review and very well done. You are an excellent writer. Thanks.
On the side note, please note that the Economist, with all its bias, grudgingly acknowledges yet, painful though it is to read, this is a quite remarkable book, about dramatic events and, as the occasional sentence lets slip, an interesting and impressive man.

Thank you for the explanation. However, I still like ``Ramzan`` and ``Khuda Hafiz.`` That`s how I left Pakistan and that`s how I still imagine it to be.

Great write-up. Loved it! Very nostalgic. Brought back a lot of memories.
Just one question: why has ``Ramzan`` has turned to ``Ramadan`` for the Pakistanis?

let`s call a spade a spade so that we can fix the problem
A lot of people all over the world have been calling “a spade a spade” hoarse since 9/11. We all know that and it`s not an issue.
Now that we know the ``spade,`` how do you propose we “fix the problem”?

the chinese and the indians - smart folks (inspite of the few macaca specimens on chowk) - have jumped on the speeding bandwagon of civilization, while ummite simpletons stand in the dust, wringing their hands over the evils of colonialism
The root cause of Islamic terrorism is the feeling of “left behind” and the resentment it causes at the civilizational level, ie, identity. It’s all about identity crisis and the feeling that everyone is speeding ahead and they are stuck in the rut. It’s all about “haves” and “have-nots,” except that have-nots do not want to admit that the Ummah has screwed it up big time. The only way for them to have is to kill all those who have it.
But, no, the Ummah will not build world class universities, will not propagate scientific knowledge, will not create independent judiciary, will not grant independent thoughts, and will not tolerate anyone who does not subscribe to their views. Just bring back the pristine Islam of the seventh century and everything will be hunky-dory for the Ummah. Then, for the Ummah, the exploration of universe will become a piece of cake, Theory of Everything will be proved in no time, the cure for cancer will be found within days, there will be no poor, no one destitute, no oppression, and everybody, without exceptions, will be healthy, wealthy, wise and content.

And to Godot, if he has used ``idiot`` to make a point you could have used Bapu`s technique to shame him
I am not “Bapu.” PM cannot be shamed. His only tactic is to immediately resort to profanities and insults. He’s one shameless chootya who is too busy scratching himself. He just beats around the bush, letting out air from his ass while scratching himself.
