I couldn't help but think of this Indian movie I saw a few years back, I think it was called "Shararat", but it had Abhishek Bachchan, Helen, and Amrish Puri amongst others, and it had to do with the elderly being in an "home" and Abhishek having to do community service. Khair, I was watching this with some Indian friends, and one of them got rather defensive at the end of the film about how Indians do not turn away their elderly.

I guess that's not entirely true.

If you don't think she's a stunning beauty, then that's your opinion. If people find that shocking, there might be more going on in their heads than being stunned about someone not finding her good looking. (take post #12 for example)

I found it interesting that Mr. Singh described Michelle as black and Obama as brown. And as far as both Obama and Halle Berry go, they don't get claimed by the white race, because the way the history of race goes in the United States, socially and legally both are in the category of black. . .

Black is Beautiful and Michelle Obama If this is written as a means to celebrate blackness (or brown) I think it could have been much better written if Mr. Singh had thought through his remarks regarding white folk. As it is written not only to celebrate blackness but also to lament the Indian's preference for lighter skin, it jumps all over the place.

He seems to make some assumptions here regarding African-Americans, and while his intent is good, the product of his thoughts is lacking.

Why can't one say that Michelle Obama isn't particularly good looking because she is African-American? There is something disturbing about making a statement like that. It reminds me of some white men and women sitting at a table, angry about what's being given to the black folk, feeling they can't say anything because they'll look like racists (when they don't realize they already are)

Michelle Obama's being African-American should have nothing to do with whether she is beautiful or not. I personally think she's attractive, but that's me. . .
