Who are the Power Elite

"Kutte Kee Poonch ko pipe main daloge to bhi seedhi nahin hogi
You cant straighten dog's tail by putting in a hose pipe"

so TeaCup, or whoever you were in another reincarnation, does that apply to you as well?

Aleph, I tried to give an explanation where you first asked the question.

masadi has been banned and so ranting and cursing at him is even more pointless because he is not here to defend himself. He was actually trying to be more reasonable here, more communicative - even with the "blocks" he still has.

Perhaps he will be able to appreciate what SR has said, but he won't be able to respond until he returns.

"it is a crying shame and it is time obama found his gonads - for god's sake, his father used to hunt lions in a loincloth"

hamid dada: Two words with exclamation points

You lie!!!!!!

Chalo ji, that is the answer to leaving health insurance as it is: move to Canada or Mexico.

I'm going to move to Mexico anyway, some day, so I should not bother! 8|

Kulharee, yaar with all due respect, even being on Medicaid has its restrictions, does it not, like income restrictions. How does it help those who are not quite within the Medicaid range, but who are not as fortunate as you, hamid dada, and those of my friends working in the university system and the Red Cross? And when those not as fortunate, still want to be able to "pay" for their insurance?

banjara:

there is a difference between "healthcare" and "health insurance" Health care is what doctors give you even if you are an illegal immigrant. Health insurance to help pay for that care is what you would not get if you are an illegal immigrant.

I think you already knew that though.

mittar ji # 102: I am going to have to agree with jang in his previous post, and disagree with you on that point. I think more than a few people are making gross assumptions about doctors, be they internists or orthopedists that is not the case.

#91: "I don’t know what the right solution is. But it is easy to see the US medical system quickly proposing a costly solution. Whether it is worth it for the individual/society, is a subjective matter."

The only way it is easy for anyone to see that is if they have absolutely no peripheral vision, and cannot see the entire picture.

For a negative experience that sattar might have had, for example, there are many positive experiences, and there really is no point in maligning the American medical system for that. Yeah I joke about how I hate doctors, but that's because I grew up around them and have been in hospitals a few times, but I've also gotten excellent care, and sometimes an expensive option is THE best one, especially in really serious situations.

Doctors do not always offer costly solutions, and the ortho that I went to, shared his concern with me regarding the treatment I was to get especially with my lack of insurance. I would like to think that he did that because he was concerned about more than just a quick fix to the pain in my knee.

And Kulharee does have a great deal, and there are companies, corporations, state offices that offer great benefits, and I know of people who are dissatisfied with their jobs, but keep working there because of the terrific benefits they offer especially when it comes to health insurance.

Then there are places which don't. My brother is a self-employed lawyer, who did not have health insurance for a long time, and I don't know if that is still the case. The needed changes will not affect those who already have excellent benefits vis-a-vis healthcare, but it will hopefully provide options for those whose jobs do not include such packages.

Another important issue is that of pre-existing health conditions, and how some insurance companies choose to deal with that. . . my family thinks I have a pre-existing condition that should automatically guarantee me insurance, but most insurance companies would not agree.

So there are a lot of things that require mending in the system, but the important thing to remember is that there should be options for EVERYONE as well.

Kamath #96: I live in the US, and I have no health insurance. I have had to go to a doctor, and for x-rays to the hospital this last summer. And the hospital asked me if I had insurance but neither they, nor the doctors denied me the x-rays or the care I needed because I don't have a card, or insurance. The hospital will ask for payment before making their services available BUT they also work out a deal where you can pay gradually. I cannot say that everyone does this, but everyone should, when there is no other affordable option.

That is why we need affordable options, including the public one, to have insurance.

Just to let you all know, the problems we face in America are plenty, just as there are in every nation, so those who want to dump on America for whatever reason are welcome to do so, just don't forget to look in your own bloody (and I also mean the literal bloody) backyards!

May the force be with you, and America!

cheema #41: okay, so you have a point there. :)

and you good commonwealth chap, why would you NEVER set foot on American soil? I said that about British soil a long time ago, but I did, and it was lovely.

Don't knock it if you haven't tried it.

of course, akcheema also meant to add that even though the Hippocratic Oath is symbolic, "moral" or "ethical" obligations remain. :)

"Those who receive welfare subsistence can get their medication without paying anything but factory-workers, taxi-drivers and other minimum-wage earners are required to pay for their medication."

To me, (I am also inquilaabi) this suggested that welfare subsistence would also work for low-wage earners. What I said was based also on the fact that some low-wage (and not low-wage) earners here in America, which mittar saab deems as not-so-civilized, are having to go on welfare subsistence in order to get their medical needs taken care of which really should not be happening in this country.

I read that part of your post and addressed an issue we are already facing. I apologize for having misread. Peace to you as well.

P.S. As for my surprising some with my views as "inquilaabi", if you are familiar with the comedy of Groucho Marx and his brothers, I am, as someone said rather well, a Marxist more of the Groucho kind than the Lenin one. :)
