Friendly Crash

Indians copying Americans

By DEEPAK SHARMA

.c The Associated Press

JULLUNDUR, India (AP) - An Indian air force jet on routine frontier patrol crashed into a bank building in northwestern India on Friday, starting a fire that killed at least eight people and injured 19, police and hospital officials said.

The pilot, who survived, reported that the Soviet-made MiG-21 had suffered engine failure, Air Force Chief S. Krishnaswamy said in New Delhi. India`s aging MiG fleet is prone to crashes, with 100 in the last six years, killing 50 pilots.

``I saw the fighter jet roll over a couple of times before it hurtled down,`` said Sunil Malhotra, a software programmer who was standing on the balcony of his house. ``I saw a blast in the sky and within 20 seconds, the plane fell. I saw the pilot and co-pilot parachuting down.``

The rear portion of the plane burned up, Malhotra said, and the front crashed into the two-story building in the Basti Adda neighborhood of Jullundurbank building, with parts hitting other buildings.

The bank building, an adjacent plywood warehouse and a commercial building containing shops caught fire.

The pilot, S.K. Naik, and the co-pilot were hospitalized, but the extent of their injuries was not released.

Jullundur`s senior police superintendent, Paramjit Singh Gill, said he counted seven burned bodies before sending them to the government hospital for post-mortem examinations. One victim died later at the hospital.

Five of the eight dead were bank employees, said Dr. Amarjit Singh, the hospital chief. Of the 19 injured, five were in intensive care and eight had been transferred to the state`s best hospital, in Ludhiana, 30 miles to the south.

The fighter jet had taken off from the nearby Adampur air force base and was on a routine flight when it crashed, said P.K. Bandhopadhyaya, the Defense Ministry`s spokesman in New Delhi.

The building it hit houses shops and a branch of the Bank of Rajasthan.

The fire was fueled by stored plywood in the bank building and the warehouse next door. It was almost out six hours after the crash, and soldiers and police began to search for survivors and dead bodies.

The air force grounded all MiG-21s used for training to conduct mechanical checks. Patrol flights were not suspended.

Several witnesses said fire engines were delayed or had trouble getting water when they arrived. Malhotra said one fire truck broke down as it neared the site and bystanders had to push it. Army fire trucks arrived to help the ill-equipped civilian force.

Among those being treated for burn injuries in Jullundur was traffic constable Jaspal Singh, who said he and another policeman broke a wall of the bank to pull people out. ``There was a lot of smoke. I was injured while trying to save some of the people in the bank,`` Singh said.

Jullundur (pronounced Ja-LEN-der) is 45 miles southwest of Amritsar in Punjab state. The town is 60 miles from the Pakistani border, where hundreds of thousands of Indian and Pakistani armed forces have been deployed because of recent friction between the countries. Patrol flights by India`s aging MiG-21s occur daily.

Thank you Prem, for clarifying this point.

It strengthens the Muslim belief that all religions were sent by Allah, in fact, they were all pure Islam, before people changed their form and name. Therefore, it is a sin for me to call Hindu religion bad.

Likewise, suicide bombing and terrorism were never part of Islam. They have entered recently, and defaced islam.

p.s. An uncle of mine (he is 76 now) fought in the 1965 war. When I asked him about the popular myth about Pakistani soldiers throwing themselves under tanks, he denied it catagorically.

Founding of the league, and the splitting of India did not have to do with the Islamic Identity of those leaders. Mr. Jinnah did not even know how to pray.

These leaders were trying to serve the cause of the Britts, by splitting India up into smaller and smaller parts.

Muslim Leaders like Abul Kalam Azaad and Maududi opposed the idea of creating an ideological state.

Prem

`` ``Hindu racism.``

LOL...I can`t believe it...I see a recurring theme. It surely isn`t something TAUGHT to little Pakistani boys and girls, is it? :)``

I was referring to ``class system``. jaati=race. Remember, a low caste Hindu cannot touch the utensils of a high class Hindu. He can however handle his poop.

Deny it is part of your religion.

Harimau

It is not even worth replying to your rabid hatred.

Great! So now we have found what is so great about Aghakhanism. Hindu racism. I am glad, they have nothing to do with Islam.

The essence of Islam is equality of man with man. People who worship men cannot be Muslim. Even the word Agha which means Lord,or Master is unislamic in it`s essence, as there is only one Lord, Allah, call him by any name.

Anny,

I feel guilty for having left the people who needed you. And for being with people who don`t want or need you, but you keep living in a land that refuses to be yours, and try to love people who will never love you back.

Hey folks, thank you for your recipes for curing my `depression`.

No it is not post-partum, and no it will not be cured by chocolates/sunflower.

It is a manic depressive response to the ups and downs of life/death.

I have seen it too up-close and personal.

You see, I am a volunteer EMT, and pick up the lowlife, the drunk, the hopeless of America every day in the pits of darkness they cast themselves in throes of self destructive behaviour. I know the man. I have met him. Almost stone dead, in a urine-drenched motel bed, left by his gay host, with two empty 2 litre bottles of vodka, and a cup full of cigarette butts. Track marks on his arms. Staring at me with glassy eyes. He has come out of rehab only last week, and we are taking him back to the hospital, courtesy taxpayer money, to come out and repeat his hopeless behaviour. He is HIV positive, and the person listed next of kin is a 15 year old child in another state.

It was a little shocking to hear the story from the stretcher end, and in Pakistan (which deepened my feelings of guilt).

Narrated Abu Sa`id al-Khudri, transmitted by Tirmidhi

...It is said that he (Muahmmed, saaws) mentioned anger, saying, ``Some are swift to anger and swift to cool down, the one characteristic making up for the other; some are slow to anger and slow to cool down, the one characteristic making up for the other; but the best of you are those who are slow to anger and swift to cool down, and the worst of you are those who are swift to anger and slow to cool down.``

He continued, ``Beware of anger, for it is a live coal on the heart of the descendant of Adam. Do you not notice the swelling of the veins of his neck and the redness of his eyes? So when anyone experiences anything of that nature he should lie down and cleave to the earth.``

Hadith - Al-Tirmidhi #5145

To Professor Hoodboy

Although they speak endlessly on rules of personal hygiene and ``halal`` or ``haram``, they cannot even tell us whether or not the suicide bombers violated Islamic laws. According to the Virginia-based (and largely Saudi-funded) Fiqh Council`s chairman, Dr. Taha Jabir Alalwani, ``this kind of question needs a lot of research and we don`t have that in our budget.``

Scholars such as Imam Albani and Uthaymeen have strongly condemned this kind of action and declared it Haram. The ordinary reader on chowk wont be interested in these scholarly writings. However, if you send me your email address, I could forward the documents to you.

MUGHALS and Pakhtuns (AFGHANS)

Sher Shah Suri did not come from Afghanistan. He, like the Moghuls was born and raised in India.

Afghan does not mean Pashtun. Pashtuns are merely one kind of Afghans.

The Pashtuns and Mughals hated each other just like the Northern Alliance and Taliban hate each other. Both are Afghans.
