good stuff...ajeb is indeed much misunderstood. his "cruelty" towards siblings was the norm amongs central-asian. he should only be accused of being incompetent at most for his rule..the sarkar went bankrupt and noone feared padshahi in the provinces..indeed dilli door ast became reality from his rule.

watch what ecomomist says..if it says its good then its pro-NATO.

we must thank the left and the BJP-SP for opposing the bill, this makes it more "valuable" to amrica/NATO. Also, this deal is good for getting better pricing from iran for IPI gas.

pinku and others...

if you go on streets of mumbai and hang outside a satynarayan pooja, you can hear the story on loudspeakers..about how wife and daughter of a vaishya-vani prepared to go sati..this is a living-breathing religious practice, you dont need to go searching the internet. the only reason i did it is because guys like you are ignorant. there are thousands of "sarvajanik" poojas and millions of private ones conducted at home. the story is repeated. no mention of any muslim pressure whatsoever.

the story of (muslim) invasion is much more clear, a superior military force came in, the locals were weak and got rolled-over and their women died in johar after eating afeem (to numb themselves)..they did not want to get sold in slavery. when dara-shikoh was hounded by rajput troops, his kabila also faced same fate (that of getting sold in slavery to the highest bidder).

if you say incidents of sati were far and few, so were incidents of johar..both are offcourse glorified in folklore. so my advice is take a chill-pill and read more on this topic..fascinating stuff.

think of it as central-asian hordes performing an ashwamedha in india.

Dhokha and Being a Muslim in India

"18th November 1772, early morning approximately at eight: Madhavrao breathed his last at the temple premises of Chintamani, Theur. Thousands of citizens visited the site and paid their last respects to the great leader. His wife Ramabai was also mentally prepared for his death; she performed Sati during his cremation on the same date. Madhavrao was cremated on the banks of the river which was about half a mile from the temple. A small memorial carved out of stone rests today at this place as a reminder of this great leader and his loving wife."

this is about madhorao peshva, a brahmin...he died of tuberculosis and there was no threat to his women since marathas had lost at panipat a generation ago and abdali had already left town.

yar sayta, i have proof from skanda-purana that sati was encouraged then..isnt it a hindu sacred text? so stop babbling on johar. rajputs and indians simply lacked military technology to defend themselves, their cattle and women, simple as that...nothing to do with religion here...it was pure medievilism

dear satya,
"during the Islamic barbaric times Hindus had to protect their women from invaders, so Rjputs had Johar and Sati. Mainly the warrior class/Kshatriya women did Sati after the death of their husband fighting Muslims."

vaguely pertinent to this thread (as part generic islamophobia amongst hindus).

satya, have you heard the story of sarya-narayan puja? its recited from skanda-purana, reva-khanda. it talks of sadhu-vani (a vaishya) who dies with his damad, and as a result his wife and daughter get ready for doing sati. afik, skanda-purana predates islam and vani-vaishya are not kshatriya. wat-up wit dat? in mumbai, there is a satyanarayan puja in every muhalla, and this story is told over blaring loud-speakers...so

ahmedis are doing the right think IMO in defining themselves as muslims. if they did not, and indeed "converted" some muslims (as apparently they did) to a non-muslim faith, there would be a lot of action. so they took the safe way and formed a sect WITHIN islam to practice and preach some new-found wisdom.

soon there will be assembly elections in "held" kashmir (which tries to hold elections routinely) and its normal to hike-up security in the area so that the ballot-wielders dont meet bullets paid for by chanda. escalations in kashmir (incl of amranath incident) are all about electoral politics in "held" kahsmir, pretty mundane stuff.

indian (muslim related) politics is communal, and there is nothing wrong in it per se and we should accept it as is. comparatively (e.g. jain politics is not communal and therefor we can just ignore it).

unfortunately, hindu india has essentially failed to declare a clear manifesto for muslims of india and therefore the communal politics is left to vagaries of fraudulent politicians. a clear pact like e.g. the medina pact is necessary, it should be clear to all and enforced dilligently. use of "democratic" politics to determine a pact is not good for muslim minorities and their fellow citizens.
