The Shah of Chicago II

``Ugliness and ignorance. Very reason I left this shithole country to begin with.``

My sentiments exactly! but do you believe this really represents hatred for the country or dispassion about the way it is.

I see that you continue to be obsessed with your ex. This isnt your first writing involving him. Whats with that?

Soulmate?

Interesting piece, though the options you listed on each step don`t necessarily apply to everyone. Some of us have had the balls to standup and say - my way or the highway - of sorts. The other part i.e. reverting to mean bit - I guess may be a universal issue with people born and raised back home. However, I believe given the realities of living here and especially with the advent of children a permanent shift in our way of thinking is necessary in order to cope effectively. The key is assimilation (we are part of this society by choice) but keeping in notion the broad guidelines of our desired social conduct. After all, this society is a melting pot and some our ``earlier learned`` way of living is bound to blend in.

Meanwhile, my advice to you is: to stick it out!

Sher Shah Suri
Posted by SaadPAslam Apr 23, 2001 03:09 pm
``Some 450 years later, an incompetent ruler of Modern Pakistan also fancied going down in History as Sher Shah Suri. The result, a road though one of the best in the world but a white elephant for the Pakistani Nation.``

Why the soap box!

A Nocturnal Battle

Bina; I may have a crude yet simple explanation for your rendition - i.e. metaphorically the same reasons as to why a thirsty traveler sees a mirage (normally an oasis) in the desert.

Don`t take it too far interpreting this writing. I believe the poem was inspired by a warm mucky night in Karachi maybe during load-shedding!!!

Just Another Stupid Love Story

``Miss Rabia got married during the summer brake of that year.``

I think you meant a break! what were you really thinking about?

You had your chance buddy! Too bad you thought you were the coolest!!! Judging by your writing, I think that attitude still lingers on in you!

In Sanity

This the second extremely morbid essay I have read recently coincidentally, or not, both written by a desi woman. Anyway I cant understand what seems to be the problem? Is it the conflict between what you are or have become and what you would have really wanted to be? Or is it the dual life that most desi women growing up in the USA have to live i.e. one for their families and one for their friends etc. I think you need to be honest with yourself and with people who love you, forget about fitting in, you will fit in even if you don`t try this hard, and believe me people will respect you more that way!
