Generals are parasites like politicians.
Neither Enlightened nor Moderate
One more example of Enlightened Moderation. Hurrah.
Must be a new style of a new generation of rally holders. Shame.
Musharraf’s Bahawalpur rally: 2 killed in stampede

MULTAN: Two children were killed and 20 people including policemen were injured after a stampede at a public meeting addressed by President Musharraf in Bahawalpur on Friday.
Witnesses said nazims took thousands of people to the stadium at 8am to attend the president’s address. The people were stopped from taking food and water while no arrangements for water were made inside. The address was due at 10am, but started at 3pm. The people had tried to leave the stadium earlier, but they were not allowed to do so. After the speech ended, the people tried getting out of the stadium and police pushed them back in. They (people) got agitated and broke the stadium’s wall and gate and stoned the police. Resultantly, a boy was killed while another died in hospital and 20 people got injured including DSP Rehmatullah. staff report

I am totally unable to understand that why the hell, army is putting everything on stake for this one stupid. He is being accused of this horrendous crime is a reason strong enough to kick him out.

For making a long discussion short I earnestly recommend an article in Urdu by Irshad Ahmad Haqqani from today’s Jang. http://www.jang.com.pk/jang/feb2005-daily/02-02-2005/editorial/col7.htm

Where are Pakistan’s Refuseniks and Whistleblowers?
Now when stifling of news has become much more difficult, I can already give you one recent example:
The country`s top brass are obviously deeply concerned at the situation, but are compelled to push on with the operation as the United States is applying heavy pressure on Islamabad to remain committed. As a result, cracks are already appearing within the army as some ranks are unwilling to take on their countrymen. In one publicized case, a major refused to fly a helicopter gunship.

No, Mr Nasir, there are a handful of honourable exceptions at least in military who sometimes bluntly refuse to comply with unlawful orders of the top command – at the cost of their career and future. Previously, due to strict control on the flow of information and because to certain institutional reasons these cases normally didn’t get publicity and they simply fade away into obscurity without ever getting any acclamation for their uprightness. Now when stifling of news has become much more difficult, I can already give you one recent example:

So when adults have lost the distinction between right and wrong, legal and illegitimate, moral and immoral; when grown-up are unable to protest against usurpers; then Mr Faisal there is nothing wrong letting kids take lead. Let them talk, please.

As I remember it was perhaps in the generals’ election No 3 i.e., following the dismissal of Nawaz Sharif 1st government, a eunuch contested for a provincial assembly from northern town of Abbottabad. His main contention was that as we have already tried both sexes with disappointment it’s time to give the “third” force a chance. So when adults have lost the distinction between right and wrong, legal and illegitimate, moral and immoral; when grown-up are unable to protest against usurpers; then Mr Faisal there is nothing wrong letting kids take lead. Let them talk, please.

I too think, as the writer presumably intends to convey that if you believe in something, do it, but then don’t hesitate to stand for it. Don’t run away.

I think the main theme of this piece is to highlight the lack of courage on the part of many jihadis to take the responsibility of their deeds in a graceful manner and face the consequences than to glorify the killers. I too think, as the writer presumably intends to convey that if you believe in something, do it, but then don’t hesitate to stand for it. Don’t run away.

She deserves our utmost best wishes, heartfelt appreciation, sincere encouragement and honest admiration. Equally, it is important that all of us contribute, in different forms, as much as we can to make this project a success.
Having said that I completely disagree that people are criticizing Samina or questioning her intentions in any sense.
On the contrary, it is a positive development that more and more people are utilizing every available mode of communication to register their hatred, disapproval and dislike for the power holders of Pakistan. Instead of discouraging dissenting voices we should rather amplify their shrieks for conveying the message that Pakistanis are really fed up of parasites both in khakis and sherwanis. We must tell them that we are not as mentally retarded as they have assumed us to be.
It must be clear to them that we see, we understand what is going on. Let them understand that people are just waiting for their turn to spit in their faces and burn their palatial mansions down. And that time will come soon. Insha-Allah.

Samina is no doubt doing something which most of us (including myself) would have not done in her position. She deserves our utmost best wishes, heartfelt appreciation, sincere encouragement and honest admiration. I am a newcomer on chowk. Yeah, at least as an active member.
A multi-dimensional article covering several aspects of the military’s meddling of the state affairs and its impact. I liked the references in particular.
By the way where is chowk’s own Field Marshal with his expert opinion? I have read about him a lot.
