A sane man's lamentation in the chaotic nation on the verge of assumed pseudo-rebirth.
This Pyre Will Burn…!
At the time of disappearance of the British Power from the subcontinent the Muslims were hoodwinked by Jinnah when he found that he could muster support from the British if he collaborated in the intensification of chaos which the British wanted. Thus, Pakistan.
Jinnah did not have the intelligence, honesty or the broad vision for the betterment of people of the ill-fated Pakistan , as Nehru had for India and Indians. The constitutin of India was framed under Dr B R Ambedkar who was a representative of the Untouchable Class in India's Hindus. This was a very deliberate and noble effort on the part of Congress' leadership.
I can guarantty that chaos in Pakistan will accelerate and become deadlier unless a Hindu chairs a rewriting of Pakistan's new constitution and the minorities are given real equality and respect.

Sorry, I can not comment on the article but the discussion has taken a wider turn towards South asia. So, my interest now has a locus standi. At the time of disappearance of the British Power from the subcontinent the Muslims were hoodwinked by Jinnah when he found that he could muster support from the British if he collaborated in the intensification of chaos which the British wanted. Azra: What is your point? Why do you restrict to monotheistic religions? All religions demand an unquestioning faith assured by self-sacrifice.

Both of you have been at each other at cross-purposes for long time. Fundamental objective of interactions should be to make an effort to know what the other person has been saying and get across clearly. Two people may reach a consensus or fail to understand each other. There is really no point in arguing ad infinitum. A hundred interactions are enough!!

If we make even childish attempts to forge the common points we may succeed in initiating/developing a new paradigm for religious interactions.
No matter how unfactual such detente is the need of the hour.

I am sorry I am not familiar with everyone's viewpoints on the board. But I would like to welcome even perfunctory or even deficient attempts by people of various religions to discover, nay even create common points among the scriptural positions of various religions. If we make even childish attempts to forge the common points we may succeed in initiating/developing a new paradigm for religious interactions.
No matter how unfactual such detente is the need of the hour.

Re: # 214: Eklavya ji, Mahmoud is a muslim so it is creditable that he takes interest in Buddhist things. You are being a bit harsh about the content desired.

Very interesting article, particularly the summation of Hinayan and Mahayan. I wish the article had the analytical vs. descritive depth. This notwithstanding avery enjoyable snippet.

Your last para:“Theism, as a way of defining God, is dead. God can no longer be understood with credibility as a Being, supernatural in power, dwelling above the sky and prepared to invade human history periodically to enforce the divine will. So, most theological God-talk today is meaningless unless we find a new way to speak of God.”
I agree with. But the new way HAS been pointed out 2000 years before Buddha and Gandhi ji in India.
BUT WILL THE WORLD HEED AND ACT RATIONALLY?
