The Cry of “Your Honour” is Now Silent

I had the pleasure and the privilege of working with Ali Saheb in his first (and last?) television serial in 1994, along with Sabiha Khanum Apa and Talish Saheb. What a warm, wonderful, HUMBLE human being! And generous to a fault, not only with money but with his time and praise as well. May he rest in peace!

no, i don`t wish to comment on this silly little piece. i just find it very amusing when people think that posting something in CAPITAL LETTERS makes what they are saying FACT.
Linguistic Imperialism
I too am baffled by this incessant Arabisation. Intentionally or not, the perpetrators come off as annoying, smug little holier than thou types whom I want to beat with a pointy umbrella.
Unfortunately it is an unavoidable fact that languages do evolve, taking in various influences from here and there. I am already at my wit`s end with my students who have resorted to using `dat` and `da` instead of `that` and `the` in their RESEARCH PAPERS. But I will fight this dumbing down, if I have to shove a whole set of the complete Oxford English Dictionary down their ingrate little throats, by God I will.
Meanwhile, have a good RamZan.

I won`t comment on nfp`s somewhat pro-mush stance, but I will certainly commend him for articulating quite well the tremendously detrimental effect that that sonovabitch Zia had on this country. Being an 80s child it enrages me beyond description when I think of how the one-eyed monster royally fecked my home. I don`t see it shaking off the effects in the near future, but hopefully in my lifetime... Inshallah

``No honourable woman would have behaved like her.``
absolutely right. i suppose according to you an `honourable` woman, after being brutally gang-raped, would have either committed suicide or would have shut up and put up.
i don`t know if you are a man or woman, either way i can safely say that you have no fecking clue what honour or being honourable means. in part it means to not stay quiet in the face of injustice, whether it`s perpetrated against others or against yourself.

interesting piece, but ``and a black triangle of hidden mystery``?? That made me clench my buttocks just a teensy bit - too cliched in a Mills & Boon-ish coy soft-porn kind of way.

Nighat I think you`ve got it ulta. It`s not enlightened moderation that Mush is propounding, it`s moderate enlightenment.
The new face of Reality
There IS one reality show though that can be termed quality television and that`s The Amazing Race.

I saw one episode of `The Swan`. It was really sad. The `contestants` came in looking like your average thirtysomething white woman, a little weather beaten perhaps but certainly not `ugly ducklings` (and who decides what`s ugly and what`s beautiful anyway?), and they left looking like those blow-up dolls displayed in the windows of Soho sex shops. I`d like to see a follow-up show five years from now, when all the plastic they`ve injected into themselves starts to implode. Will they still think all of life`s troubles can be done away with by getting lipo and a boob job? There IS one reality show though that can be termed quality television and that`s The Amazing Race.

............One has to be female, well-off(father or husband), bored and suicidal.Only then.
I will ignore the sexist overtones of your comment. You are obviously a big Wordsworth fan. Fire bad, tree pretty, babbling brook; babble, brook, babble.

If someone slaps you - fine, slap back, if you must.
If someone robs you - fine, punish them.
If someone insults your parents - fine, give them a `gaali` back, if you must.
But to go on a bloody rampage against someone for having differing beliefs??? I would laugh out loud at the absurdity and idiocy of it if it weren`t so bloody tragic.

To my simple little mind it`s utterly incomprehensible. If someone slaps you - fine, slap back, if you must.
If someone robs you - fine, punish them.
If someone insults your parents - fine, give them a `gaali` back, if you must.
