The Irreverent Hero Islam Forgot
Post #159
" He badmouths Jinnah for being some sort of dictator while supporting musharraf."
To quote a so called parliamentarian (though a colonist to the core),Winston Churchill, "The honourable gentleman is being economical with the truth."
On the contrary, Mr Cowasjee has been praising Mr Jinnah as if he was the best thing ever happened to Pakistan, since the arrival/introduction of sliced bread. All along he has been quoting excerpts from Mr Jinnah's various speeches relating to freedom for everybody.
Actually, it has been quite tiring to see Mr Cowasjee quoting Mr Jinnah, day in and day out. And many a times, even when it did not warrant.
By the way, I have not read him/his coloumn for over 3 years now. If things have changed during this period, I do not know.

`` I am content with the general meaning of globalisation which means that India is integrated witht the rest of the world in terms of economics. ``
I had left the matter and said so too...but, when I see feeble attempts and supposed definitions like these, one has to say, either be honest enough to take things through or leave it when opportunity is given or is there..
Can you tell us anytime in the history of independent India when it did not have economic relations with the rest of the world? What do you mean by integrated? Was India not importing or exporting and doing both in all these years? How or when India has been isolated from rest of the world, even when one takes into consideration the period when US had put sanctions? Has India`s economy been isolated from rest of the economy of the wrold? If it has, how so?
While at it, do tell us, how there is full privatisation, which you are recommending for India, in the so called capitalist country US when only recently, US govt has pumped billions of dollars in US airlines after 9/11? US is not alone but other developed economies too have done the same.

`` Canada and many european countries may be considered as egalitarian societies, despite a flourishing free enterprise. ``
When are we/you willing to come to the real world? That is, if we are willing to. How Canada and many European countries are egaltarian? While at it, do give names also of those many countries, as this will make things more easy.
Oh, by the way, tomorrow, there is some election/s on some European Commissoner who has said words to the effect...Womens` place is in the kitchen, refugees belong to camps and some more like that. European Commission has not withdrawn his canditature and inspite of all the uproar, that candidate too has not withdrawn himself and nor has he apologised, as such...So your telling us which are those many egaltarian countries would assist in understanding things better...
Do you know that attempts are being made to throw in Christianity in the Constitution of Europe? Does that smack of egaltarian society/country? Sure, it has not so far as there is fight going on but, ........

Major part of your post#10, I had quoted at another board...
here and the good professor has quoted the following part in his reponse, and has replied too,
here
Quote:
From Dr. Gill:
My allusion was to the theoretical cosmologists like A. Linde and others who have made some extreme extensions. I do have a great respect for A. Linde and do not mean to degrade him in any way; I do not however agree with his prediction of billions and billions of new universes being created every second. And honestly, what does my disagreement with his predictions really matter? He is totally unaware of my existence.
``on this count, we totally agree ... Linde had visited us in April ... unfortunatley, I sat in the front row for his lecture ... I was sitting there thinking, ``is this guy for real?`` :)
after about 20 minutes, I had had enough and spent the next 40 minutes trying not to go to sleep :( ``

Twice you have used smilie sign in that post...So what shall I say..:)
Anyway, I have neither interpreted what Veeresh has said nor have I explained or said, what Veeresh meant in those posts. I have merely quoted what he has written. And have also asked a question indirectly on the basis of what you have written. That is all, Sir.
Btw it is/was not about defending Veeresh. If the need arise, he himself is quite capable of doing that much better. It was about what you have said, about what he has written..:)
Anyway......

Mian, is Ramzan se pehle agar aapnay koi pahaar khoday hain, ya nadeeyon ke bahav badal diye hain kay jo aap hum logon ko some sharafat kee kahani soon-a rahein hain aur darane kee koshish kar rahein hain? Crude translation: Prior to Ramzan, have you been moving mountains, changing the flow of rivers that you are trying to threaten/scare us now, and expect from us to bow down? :)

Some like me take advantage of the internet and of forum like this by trying to learn new things, add on to learning, and sharing as well. In contrast, some like yourself, take advantage of the internet by coming with lame excuse in the name of Ramzan and at the same time threat/s, in the name of EID. And some others are taking advantage (khoob faida utha rahein hain, as you have written) by calling names to others. So, faida tau Sahib, sabhee ootha rahein hain lekin, faiday faiday mein kaafee furk hai..crude translation:Sure, everyone is taking advantage but there is difference in the kind of advantage .

I did ask in my post what do you mean by globalisation, and complete privatisation?
The fact that US and other developed economies subsidies their industries by billions of dollars every year, how is that a privatisation?
Anyway, your focus as of now is on the reservatations, so would not like to distract you from that. Did want you to share thoughts on the words used in your post.
On reservations, I am not sure about private sector but overall in the society, be it in govt sector, certainly people who have been at the wrong end of stick, and in disadvantageous position for centuries, do deserve some place, assistance which can help them to come to the mainstream. And that is not doing any favours to them. Society/India should. But then, like any other good intention/idea has some lacunae which some exploit for their own benefit that does not mean idea is not to be executed/implemented. So in principle, yes, reservation/assistance should be there but I am not clear on the part as to, to what extent.

Sir, I look forward to your fothcoming paper. No, not to pick any bone/s but to enjoy and in the process, perhaps learn too (using the term `perhaps` becasue I am not sure if things would register that much whereby I can say confidently, I have learnt. :) )
Thank you for the posts 10/11 and I do reciprocate the sentiments expressed.

Further to my post#8, here is the response that I have got now, from the professor.
Quote:
ok, the rest of his response does soften the tone quite a bit ...
I agree with him more or less:)
regarding Shelly Glashow, he is one guy who was dead-sure about his predictions ... as the story goes, when the W boson was discovered at CERN, someone called Glashow to give him the news (he was one of the folks who had predicted the W boson) ... due to the time-zone difference, it was the middle of the night in the US ...
Glashow said, ``you woke me up for THAT? ... it is obvious``
:)
[btw, give my regards to Dr. Gill :) ]

You are not interested in my explaination? Have I given you any explaination?
On the contarary, I have been very polite, and have given you an escape route in a subtle manner. Note, I even used the word ``inadvertantly`` (in my previous post to you, on the similar subject) in my post so that you can look again, at what you had written/claimed. That was giving you a way out, in a polite way.
You are claiming that Veeresh said X, and I have quoted from his posts only to show that he has not said, what you claim he has.
I have not given any explaination but it is questioning and refuting your claim. Please check again.
