Why Aren’t Muslim Women Converting to Christianity?
Which Islam?
Another confused article by somebody who is pleasantly living in the US. I would like to ask the author: Where is true Islam? Because living in the west and performing some rituals to please god here doesnt make sense.

A very confused article. Where is this guy living. Maybe he is writing this article in his cozy home in the USA. The land of Yahood-o-Nisara is a nice place to come up with theories like these.Common man, what good is Islam without stoning adulters to death, or without killing apostates.

Reforming Pakistan’s Universities -- II
For a country to progress in science and technology, science has to go conjointly with everyday lives of people. It has to impregnate in each aspect of society. I am afraid that is not the case in Pakistan. A society where people feel more comfortable believing that divine intervention (Peers/Jinns/Ghostly Images etc) will help them more than science can never progress. If you talk to Pakistani students (even the ones doing PhDs from very elite universities in US), you will be amazed to hear how much they can go in criticizing scientific process. People have a general antagonism against science, and that is the most disturbing thing. You will often hear people making very slanderous remarks e.g. ``science has often failed and has its limits, it can not provide answers to everything``. I am myself a PhD student, and having said that, it behoves on me to respect the scientific process more than anything.
And then there are people who believe in all sorts of conspiracy theories. Conspiracy theory on free masons, conspiracy theory on evolution, conspiracy theory on zionists, conspiracy theory on indians, you name it and we have it.
Then we have false heros. That is understandable for a country where heros are in short supply. No one is taught about the contributions of Dr. Abdul Salam. People feel more comfortable in mocking his religious beliefs than reading about him. In comparison, even after the nuclear imbroglio, you will still find many ardent supporters of A. Q. Khan.
I believe the most important thing that Dr. Ata and company should do is to make sure that our youth develops a habit of book reading. I feel that is the most important area which no one is talking about. Without this, we will just create a generation of bigots than real philosophers/scientists.
After whatever general Zia has done, infusing rationality in mainstream Pakistani society is going to be very tough.

Let me start by saying that it was a pleasure reading both the articles by Dr. Hoodbhoy. I am a very recent product of this system and that is why I think my opinion merits some weight. For a country to progress in science and technology, science has to go conjointly with everyday lives of people. It has to impregnate in each aspect of society. I am afraid that is not the case in Pakistan. Great work Salman. I can tell you that the general trend in Pakistan is to hush up such scandals. Whisleblowers, regardless are very small and those who do put their careers at great risk. Its a very sad situation.
Dissection of Evolution Theory
Could it be that you are too proud to admit that you are related to a monkey? Don`t forget that pride is one of the most deadly sins.

Dissection of Evolution Theory
You have a very nice ``theory``. I have read many articles by creationists, and yours is just about the best it can get. I would suggest you one thing:
Go to a library and read November 2004 edition of National Geographic. The title of the journal is ``Was Darwin Right?``. You will find much more information and answers to most of your claims.
What I would like to know is, what is exactly your contribution in the field of botany/paleontology/ecology/genetics/zoology to make such claims. In fact if you have the guts, write a paper for your theory and present it to reviewers of world-class journals (like Nature, Science or National Geographic). If you can manage to get it accepted there, I will very happily believe in your ``theory``.
If you had written this artticle 100 years ago, it would have been very powerful. Not any more. Ironically, it is becoming increasing clear that evolution is a fact.

Omar Phoenix, you are one ``confused scientist``. Read world renouned journals like Scientist, Nature and Discover etc and you will know how science works. Teach Students to Think
The total number of good computer scientists in Pakistan when combined will only make about one University faculty in the US. There is absolutely no research whatsoever in any Pakistani University. Subjects like for example Bio-Medical Engineering which are seen as future in US are not known by students in Pakistan.

Nice article... let me just add that graduate studies in Pakistan are also on the decline, top-schools like GIK, NUST and FAST are gradually on the decline. The dearth of PhD`s is also a severe problem. The PhDs who are already there cannot be classified as true experts. Many half-baked PhDs earn well above 6 figures because there are so few of them. The total number of good computer scientists in Pakistan when combined will only make about one University faculty in the US. There is absolutely no research whatsoever in any Pakistani University. Subjects like for example Bio-Medical Engineering which are seen as future in US are not known by students in Pakistan.
