A Critique of Philosophical Thought in Pakistan

Unless we have freedom of speech, freedom of political thought, law and order, freedom of practising religion, we will continue doing what we are ordered to do. So there is no real point of discussing the development of philosophical thought in Pakistan because all disciplines relating to social sciences have been manipulated and abused by the power brokers and ``Islamic saviors``. We need to realize that religion and philosophies cannot be imposed on an individual. Until that principle is implemented, there is no real point of discussing this topic.
The World Is BUT are We Ready for a New Pakistan?
Musharraf has made some bold and correct decisions, like becoming a US ally, going through with a peace process without making Kashmir the biggest issue, going against fundamentalist groups in Wana etc. However, he has also made some major blunders. The referendum was a huge blunder. Sidelining opposition parties was also a blunder.
The people of Pakistan cannot create a new Pakistan without the support of the Government. Freedom of speech for the individual should be revered and strongly implemented. If the people are restricted, whether directly or indirectly to speak against the policies of the government and the military, there will be no real progress among the people. I believe the people in general have become apathetic to progress because they have been hammered again and again over the years that you cannot freely stand up and say anything against the military or the ruling government.
Second, the people of Pakistan have also become apathetic to our law and order institutions. Particularly in Karachi, the growing consensus among people is that if you don`t have connections or the money to bail you out of trouble, the police and the law cannot do anything for you. This is something that needs to be changed. When people believe in the effectiveness of the law of the country, thats when corruption will be reduced, adherence to the law will increase and progress would come about. Musharraf and his government should take the lead in showing us that the law and order institutions reign supreme and not the military or the ruling government.

I like the words you have used, but I am not so sure that a village girl will actually agree to an angrezy chummi....not a very realistic prospect...but I guess its fiction....or is it?

I would say Inquilaab should stand tall at number 2. This album inspired a rock revolution that made artists create issue based music. Albums like Irtiqa, Maazi Haal Mustaqbil and other good rock albums are basically a culmination of the rock initiative taken by Junoon. Sure Junoon has fizzled out with some crap music but they still remain, in my opinion the founders of true rock music in Pakistan.yeah yeah I know they sold out to cola companies...y do they have to do that? The Old Pakistan is Dead, Long Live New Pakistan
What I do know is that Pakistan needs very strong independent institutions like the Judiciary who decide who is guilty of what and should enforce punishment for the wrongdoers. Again, the strong institutions will only come from strong leadership thats lacking in Pakistan. Its a vicious circle.
Man I think I should get into Pakistani politics!

I don`t know who is guilty and who is not. Musharraf is supposedly better than Sharif and Bhutto but well...I don`t see evidence of that either. What I do know is that Pakistan needs very strong independent institutions like the Judiciary who decide who is guilty of what and should enforce punishment for the wrongdoers. Again, the strong institutions will only come from strong leadership thats lacking in Pakistan. Its a vicious circle.
