Watch out Brazil! Here we come!!!
Posted by yasirz Jun 12, 2005 10:56 am
Football is one of those sports that you don`t really have to ardently follow the game in order to enjoy it.Watching the ball being kicked around is infectious. Many a time id tune into a french channel just to watch their domestic games.Didnt know the teams, dont know the language....still fun to watch...!!

Cricket is just so obscenely strong in pak that it dwarfs every other sport.Twenty20 for cricket was a big success, why not try similar domestic matches for footbal in pak..who knows..

I think there is an inherent tendency in Pakistani minds to sweep away failures under carpet; like they never existed.

One example is the 65 war.I grew up learning how Pakistan thwarted expected Indian aggression, on the contrary it was Ayub who had ordered an invasion into Kashmir thinking that India wouldnt start a retaliatory land war into Punjab. How wrong that $#@$ was, may he rest in peace! That part was conveniently left to delude a new generation of pakistanis- like me.

Actually Kashmir is not a small factor for India as it is part of a global supply chain.A day of closure or interruption in India`s IT industry will make the Western investors shit in their pants. This is what happenned in 2002 when war almost broke out.Bigger subsiduaries(not the frikkin call centers) were under immense pressure to guarantee the smooth functioning of their organizations and pretty much had to sweet talk the goras into having faith in them.
Its all about the $$$.

True.Hindu probably didnt refer to a certain religious group. But then again werent the majority Hindu or followers of hinduism!

A little off topic but has anyone her ever heard of Jordi Magraner? he spent the last 12 years searching for bigfoot (barmanu in local chitrali dialect) in these areas especially around Chitral. He was killed a few years ago by his servant.Alot of his research was based on witness testimonies; it just fascinates me as to how many secrets lay undiscovered in these regions.

’NO’ to Ostentatious Displays and Wasteful Expenses

Good intentioned this law may be but in actuality there are a lot of loopholes around this law.For instance booking a hall in a hotel and declaring a kids haqiqa or a birthday party. Its not like government agents run around looking for such discrepencies.
But then again some families do utilize this oppurtunity to not spend too much money on weddings.Lack of food discourages party crashers, distant/disliked relatives, and offcourse less attendance.the people who truly care show up..hehe

Man youre messed up.I have two words for you you damn Nazi : Firing squad. And that too with a bb gun so its more painful. And takes longer.
Socio-political History of Modern Pop Music in Pakistan
Posted by yasirz Dec 13, 2004 09:15 pm
Ahh bring backs memories...

I recently got the Vital signs collection. Most of the music was constructed over the tone banks of a rudimentary casio synthesizer, Junaids vocals sound as dispassionate as a mullah over christmas, and dont get me started on some of the lyrics:Mera dill naheein available...Wahhh??!?! but you gotta admit something about that band that you just cant get enough of..

Kaura: I cant figure out the hoopla over Abrar either. He`s still churning out lyrical crap as we speak.Damn one hit wonder.
The reason Junoon is so revered is because of the fact that they truly are musicians.Ali`s vocals are impeccable....the musical backdrop, lyrics everything just sort of made sense.Just ignore the corporate bullshit known as deewar, and you`ve got a very decent collection.Tell me, in the subcontinent does anyone even come close who epitomize the element of rock? Baba Sehgal?Maybe not

Nikki:sigh....maybe you would fancy a 1000 page article on Daler Mehndi`s groundbreaking(literally) music and his subsequent career demise into human trafficking.Woudnt that be good read?Get lost you low life.

haha..GuruJee got too carried away with his patriotism..

On a less serious note im dying to know the origins of a certain idiosyncrasy in Indian english! Let me give you an example: I went to Detroit Only to pick up my mother.Notice the only.It cracks me up everytime i hear it.I dont know if it permeates in Indian schools or its some kind of cultural phenomenon but its there and ive heard it plenty a time from my Indian buddies.

Mr.Shergill...no offense but will you please stop flooding the board with your articles!
Caste and the City

Out of curiousity: Ive seen a lot of animosity/racism towards indians from south a.k.a Southies during my interactions with indians here in the us(Northerners offcourse)?Where the hell does that stem from?Does it pertain to a caste structure too or more towards supposed genetic/cultural superiority on the part of North Indians?

`` point that terms like bhangi, choora, achhoot are seen and heard almost excusively in Pakistan``
Yes they`re our intellectual property. Please refrain from using them or face punitive action.

Which migs did you fly Mr.Khan?Out of curiousity...

I remember my chacha going through a similar experience in which he ended up fracturing his shin bone - probably not as bad as dislocating a hip joint though..ouch! His plane`s tail had caught fire and consequently he had to eject.Somewhere in punjab I believe. His name is Shahid Zaman.Coicidentally this was around the late 70`s too.Bad batch of planes.Damn chinese engineering.
my fond memories of Quetta include the bookstores on Jinnah road, mango shake at Flora and offcourse the 2hr drive to Ziarat

Wonderful article!

This killing will set a precedent that stunts like these for quick and cheap publicity have their consequences.Make a documentary.Go ahead. But writing sacred scriptures on naked bodies i mean COME ON you`re asking for it.

I must however give credit to the American-Hindu community for dealing with something similar in a civilized manner.I dont have a link to back it up but some time ago an american company was planning to release a new line of bathroom furnishings where an image of Ganesh was printed on the commode. The Indian-American community publicized the whole event, raised hue and cry and were able to `persuade` the company not to go ahead with its launch. Can you imagine a company printing Prophet Muhammads picture/quranic scripture on a bathroom stall. The first thing the fundos will resort to is destroy the local KFC and Mcdonalds!

Remember Jerry Falwell. His infamous line: Muhammad was a terrorist.People got killed in Pakistan. All i can say is WTF!

Our upbringing as Muslims is becoming more and more rigid, intolerant and Militant! Why couldnt the fundo Morrocan followed a similar route as the hindu community.I remember my late grandmother threatening to slap my 40 year old uncle when he made a nonchalant joke about the Hajj. Its a lot of work and we have to start somewhere.Preferably our kids.

TO nikki,
Politician Kills Wife, Roasted Her in Oven
from the Chicago Sun-Times
NEW DELHI, India -- A former leading member of India`s Congress party was convicted of murder Monday for killing his wife, covering her in butter and attempting to roast her in a restaurant`s tandoor oven.
Sushil Sharma faces a possible death penalty when he is sentenced Wednesday.
Once the leader of the Congress youth wing, he shot his wife, Naina Sahni, 29, eight years ago when he thought she was having an affair, and then butchered her body.
Sharma took the pieces to the Baghiya, a New Delhi restaurant, on a night when it was closed, coated them with ghee -- clarified butter -- to help them burn, and stuffed them into its tandoor.
A policeman noticed the smell of cooking meat while the restaurant was closed, and the Baghiya was raided.
After a trial involving more than 100 witnesses, a judge found Sharma guilty of murder, criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence.
Keshav Kumar, the Baghiya`s manager, was convicted of conspiring with Sharma to dispose of the corpse, and faces a 10-year sentence.

The Congress party`s rivals are likely to turn the case into an election issue.

Shame on you Nikki7 for being so damn self-righteous.This is a little more courteous.Atleast he killed her before making tandoori spouse ghosht out of her.what a gentlemen.

Regarding claims of Western intolerance.
IMHO the best example of this is:
Not many people were murdered when the movie Dogma was released nationwide. It pissed off a couple of people but thats it.The person who wrote and directed(Kevin Smith)it is a well-known and respected personality. That still doesnt offset the fact that he makes shitty movies however. :)

Dogma continues to be aired on networks.
Highway Robbery
Posted by yasirz Nov 13, 2004 05:26 pm
Seeing the cylinder at the back of the car reminds of the incident that had fired up the 70s.Literally.Ford produced a car called the Pinto, upon being rear-ended, if the impact was strong enought the car would burst into flames.

2004: gas tank at the back of the car.I dont know mashallah ive never been rear ended but would happen if the local minibus rams right into you say at about 50kms/h+

Scary scenario. But then again its just my opinion.
adios.
