Now Showing on a DVD Near You
Posted by shobig_sifar Jan 22, 2006 09:30 am
yeah, go ahead, ravage our only source of sasti-entertainment! :@

on a serious note, the idea of simultaneous release might help Hollywood mend some of its wounds, but I don`t think it`s gonna work for Bollywood. Even in Pakistan, you can find smuggled unedited alpha versions of movies months before their actual release date. And these too at a fraction of the cost a `legally relased` DVD would bear. Who`s gonna take the stakes for a progressive cinema, when they get the entertainment it`s meant for anyway?

And guess why there are only 5 interacts on this board despite it being on front page for a couple of days already?
that`s easy....Mr Paracha has forgotten the passwords for his a thousand and one other nicks, which he uses solely to respond to / promote his very own articles...
What a pity...my heartiest sympathies are with you NFP!

Looks like kaka is hell bent on growing up into the next N F Paratha of Chowk, so no wonder this piece of crap is as lame and pathetic an attempt at humour as most of NFP`s wriings are, perhaps even more.
I disagree, it`s not offensive at all...it`s just utterly dreadful...for no one gives a shit to what a self-aggrandizing lowlife kaka-next-door hallucinates about or what he has to say about Ibrahim (AS) and his followers...I believe even Russel turns in his grave each time someone reads the words `a rogue philosopher`...

Culture Cloning
Posted by shobig_sifar Nov 22, 2005 09:57 am
Re: # 167 i don`t think there is a single Pakistani culture either... the foremost defining charactersitic of a culture in the literal sense is perhaps `shared regional bounds` followed by a bunch of other factors...in that sense, each province of Pakistan has it`s own sub-culture. When someone refers to the Pakistani or Indian culture generally, in my opinion, it entails the dominant bits of all the sub-cultures prevailing in the two countries.
Culture Cloning
Posted by shobig_sifar Nov 22, 2005 06:18 am
Indian culture...Hindu culture...Pakistani Culture...Islamic culture...
media culture...
would someone draw the lines?
Truth of the matter is, the `culture`, or lack of it thereof, promoted by the Indian media, is not the Indian culture itself in the true sense of the word. so what we `borrow` from the Indian media is not the Indian culture per se, the real Indian culture is actually a part-and-parcel of the Pakistani culture, going by the history.
... and the question remains, does media influence the culture or portray it?

Haven`t been able to go through the whole write up yet, but am still stuck on this particular statement which is constantly bugging me:

[I think the problem arises when people confuse Faiz the poet with Faiz the thinker]

Is this supposed to imply that a poet`s poetry is not a direct artifact of his `thoughts`, or not, at least, inspired by these? Isn`t it naive to distinguish between a poet`s thoughts and his poetry?
If there does lie a difference between the two, he is not a true poet, let alone one of Faiz`s caliber.

Re: # 4 none but the bloody old gujju it is. Claims to have read a thousand and one books in recent years...has learnt, but, not a word.
You don`t even have to get people to stop reading books to destroy culture, these make no difference to such venom-laiden minds.
