Perfidy, Qur’anic Apostasy or Hermeneutics?
Posted by malikjahanzeb Dec 18, 2005 02:18 am
When I read quran, I specially pondered over its construction of relations between a man and wife. I realized that it completely fails to acknowledge that one of the basis of such a relation is love. According to quran, the relation between the two is a very practical one, of giving and taking of sexual organs, and the money involved and the children resulting. It delibrately ignores any component of love present in the relation.

I think research should focus on the reasons why the faithful, so fervently, insist on the reveletion being real. It is only after missing this point, making a huge assumption, that they set out to bend all the realities in favour of its stipulations. Ironically, this is exactly what einstein did to classical physics.

It seems like these otherwise learned and capable fellows have a lot of time to kill in chasing ghosts. What a loss of precious intellectual resources.

>>>You seem to be deliberately missing the point. The point was not that all minority can do well in India, even though I have heard differently, ok granted. Friedman went on to say that in Pakistan that same `Muslim` person would not get an opportunity to better himself, instead he would be a thug.

Saima,

I don`t want to souind pessimist but unfortunately, this seems like a very true statement. Pakistan lacks an environment where progressive economic activity can flourish. If you want to be successful in pakistan, you better be a thug (whether in the holy army, one of the religous fundos or one of the choudharies of punjab).

Let me repeate that I am only saying this because I see a big problem wiht the way our country works. Friedman might have said other objectionable things but the statement stays a truth that in pakistan, there is a lack of good level playing field and a motivation to prepare for it.

Dear Writer,

Please respond to this objection otherwise your credibility is greatly demoted.
SAARC Syndrome: Asia\'s Burden
Posted by malikjahanzeb Dec 3, 2005 05:19 pm
`Hindu mentality` thing is a shame for the article. Such stereotypes, even though sometimes they carry some substance, arn`t something to talk about in articles. If hindu has a clever mentality, he has the right to keep it that way and take advantage of it. If we in Pakistan are intimidated by it, why not become secret and clever overselves.

The chauvinism very evident in hindu citizons of india is alarming. We call such people in punjab `nou-doltia` (newly rich). Nou-doltias are often associated with certain abnormal and funny behaviour and are often laughed at.
SAARC Syndrome: Asia\'s Burden

Seems like SAARC countries are not yet ready for a collaboration. They lack the characteristics which would become the precursors for such a coordination.

A regional union like this is supposed to follow naturally. We have seen man`s journey towards unity from tribes to cities and to countries. The speed of this journey has been proportional to man`s civility and education. Keeping in view this trend and a few contemporary examples, we can argue that a point must come in time when such a union will be inevitable. Accepting that we are not there is the need of the hour and how and when will reach that point is the real question.

So, how and when will we reach there ?

What an unflinching idealism yaar....

Romair,

Einstien`s predictions have come out of theories only. A system of clocks on a rocket has been actually made to fly around the earth on a very high speed and it was found out that they lost some time.

A classic example of science being corrected Newton`s carpuscular theory of light in which he attributed light to comprise of tiny particles. And when the shift was made towards `light as a wave` theory, an imaginary medium called ether was introduced to fill in the whole uinverse with, as a means for light `waves` to travel. After that, the idea of ether was also shunned in the face of modren work.

These are some clear examples of older science being falsified by itself, only under the agenda of honesty and progress.

Now which quranic ayat are you ready to drop?

Overcoming Deafness

Nice and useful article. Reminds me of Amihtab`s movie ``black``. It was after watching that movie when I realized the enormous difficulties faced by deaf and dumb. Unfortunately, our society is not yet ready to deliver this much attention to the deprived, for the normal ones are suffering as much as disabled do in modren world.

Anyways, a nice informative article.
