Recent Terror in Egypt
Posted by vagabond78 Jul 28, 2005 11:15 pm
Very didactic.

Manto uncle, Stop treating us like some 5th std. kids.

But those lessons are important with or without Egyptian bombings. Such incidents only bring about extreme reactions. Like 9/11. You were like brothers in arms till then, nahin?

Your 3rd point: Pan-islamism is an farce. In recent times, what Iran, Libya and Egypt did to you pales in comparison to what you guys did (and still doing) to taliban. Dont be under any illusions on that account. And Iranian interior ministry will have great stories to tell about the subversive activities of ISI inside their borders.

Re: # 138

Pakistan is an independent country. But it has been (and still being) used and abused by America, Saudia, China, Britain, Afghanistan, Iran everyone. It`s aam-langar folks. Compared to that this is just a website.

And more seriously, the title-bar on your IE says, ``Ideas and Identities of India Pakistan``.

Bhaskar,

In the fabled Ramayana myth it is said that Lakshman put Urmila to sleep before leaving for the woods. And her deep slumber lasted for 14 years till her husband came back to her. She didnt feel a thing.

But in modern Ramayana played out in countless Hindu homes across India, Urmila is the cunning younger bahu who avoids serving her in-laws and feigns sleep or sirdard the moment her Lakshman steps out. :)

Blockbuster of an article. David Dhawan would be proud of you. Masala, melodrama, tragedy, comedy and a great storyline; cunning politicians, conniving Pandits and idealist muslims laying down their lives against the backdrop of serene and beautiful Kashmir valley. Super-duper hit!!

So what if its the same $hit regurgitated from her earlier hit releases. This is for junta-janardhan who couldnt bring themselves up to appreciate her critical take on corporate media (just 20 responses, chee! chee!). So here it is: a bombastic-pompastic comedy fillum ``bakri teri, bakr-id mera`` by FV

:))

Cheers

tempo,

Happy coincidence since just the other day I too was petitioning God. And know what, God is actually a Goddess. That`s correct; Allah is She :)

She reminds me of Lieutenant Scheisskopf`s wife: A brilliant Havard graduate who only ever wants to run around completely naked, and whipped.

Al_bhangi,

1. Faith transcends evidences or any historical facts. For a fact, there`s no evidence to prove the existence of Allah either. And that`s R S Sharma`s firm and verifiable Marxist belief.

2. It`ll be interesting to learn how our ``marxist historian`` wants his body to be disposed of when he dies.

Dalit,

When you are clearly aware that ``Hinduism is not a revealed religion and, therefore, has neither a founder nor definite teachings or common system of doctrines..and the rest of the 1st para in #270`` , why do you quote Manu as if it`s the prevailing morality in modern India?

And for the rest of your comments like:

1. Brahma is found ``guilty`` of cohabiting with his own daughter, Saraswati

2. The sexual life of Krishna, an incarnation of Vishnu, is well-known for its ``indecency``. He had ``illicit`` relations with Radha, wife of his maternal uncle.

Before you use words like fornication and prostitution I`d advise you not look at hinduism through the prism of Dalit-Christian/Islamic morality. You wouldnt understand the symoblism behind Shiva linga when you could never question the virginity of Mother Mary or the paedophilia of Muhammed when he married Ayesha.

If India hadnt been invaded and ruled by muslims and christians, who knows, we could be celebrating here a kind of womanhood where a modern Radha could freely express her desire and act on it.
Kerala would still be a matrilineal society and witness fortnightly festivals of fornication. Wasnt that booker winner a keralite who said it all started 2000 yrs ago when modern ``love laws`` were laid down?

If hinduism doesnt have a singular set of beliefs it only reinforces the democratic nature of hindus where freedom of belief, thought and speech is paramount. Perhaps the most popular of ``hindu`` verses is:

Guru brahma, guru vishnu, gurdeo maheshwara,
Guru shakshat para-brahma, tasmaisri guruvey namah!.

Loosely, it means that you can go pray your local school teacher if that`s your belief.

Finally, since the subtlety of Dharma is beyond you it`ll be good if you attend weekly prayers seeking advance-forgiveness for the sins you`ve gonna commit in the coming week.

Cheers

Took me to my car trip through coastal karnataka. Words cant describe the beauty of that road in kundapur. It`s heavenly. We were lucky to be there on a cloudy day. We shouldered and spent like 2 hrs there smoking weed. Check out this link. Cayenne can put better pics of this stretch.

Another heavenly sight on the same route is Gokarna. You skipped it?

In hindsight the marriage proposal is of course ridiculous. But how would a judge decide that? He obviously had to ask the victim right? And that`s what he did. And you admit it yourself that his hands will be tied had the victim said `I do`. So in this whole process the verdict will be delayed, no?

Then pray tell me what you mean by this:
[The crime has to be prosecuted. This is not family court we are dealing with a crime against a citizen. It was not the judges decision to delay the judgment. If the rape victim had said `I do` then yes, his hands were tied but until that happened it was not his call to make. He was there to preside over a case not be a cog in a patriarchial system.]

I`ll give a miss on the slavery part but you`ll find your last para in every judgement where a rapist is convicted. Each judgement would stretch to 70-80 pages where the judge will refer to a dozen cases and bemoan the society for illtreating women; accuse the state for failing to protect its citizens; and ask all those present in the court, ``are you not ashamed of yourself?``, ``isnt the accused a part of the society?``.

If the accused is an illiterate labourer and some such shit, he would also remind the state of the directive principles and will show leniency. Ask yourself: If a very rich woman is raped by a roadside beggar, shouldnt the judge be lenient in pronoucing the sentence?

Now, jawahara, you might wish to take back a few things you had said in #52.

Re: # 46

No sir I beg to disagree. If you remember, a few months back there was a rape trial in India wherein just before the final judgement the accused proposed marriage to the victim and the judge deferred the verdict and asked the prosecution to respond. The woman responded by requesting the bench to hang him and the indignant media and womens groups accused the judiciary for being partiarchal and insensitive towards the victim.

But the learned judge knew what he was doing and so must you. Same applies to Nisha Sharma`s case as well.

The prosecution may present whatever evidence but if Imrana says `My FIL didnt rape me` or Nisha Sharma (or the victim I mentioned above) says `I do`, the judge can do nothing but dismiss the case forthright.

Murder or homicide is a different case altogether. In Indian law even suicide is a crime.
