Man and Conflict

Interesting article. You might have elaborated on the solutions giving pragmatic and practical examples of how human evolution and `bias-shedding`` could take place, highlighting reforming certain laws, setting up inter-faith committees with clout, ammending certain aspects of policy-making.

Perhaps that could be another piece of writing where you concentrate more on empirical evidence rather than propound conceptual theory ?
The “GupShup” Culture
Posted by husnaangelique Mar 12, 2006 03:16 pm

Athar Shiraz,

Do not forget that ``gup shup`` forms part of our ``desi`` culture which cannot be changed overnight. Though you make some noteworthy points, they could have been made in a more sensitive manner.

You have abused races, homosexuals, and developing nations which i think hints towards neo-fascism and neo-colonialism on your part.

Chowk editors it is in very poor taste to publish such a discriminatory piece of writing.
Unveiling the Myth of the Muslim Woman

the ``burqa and hijab`` of western prejudice against Islam and the East will

``unveil`` itself. The discerning eye and intellect always knew to pierce this ``veil``

and to see western smoke-screens and hypocrisy for what they truly are.
Ch-ch-changes

``Isn’t change a forward momentum in life``?.

Not necessarily. Social mandates and/or peer pressure often require us to change. Such forced ``momentum`` is seldom praiseworthy or needed. Change for change`s sake is not worth it. Why fix or ammend bridges which are not broken ?

Scream

A scream will soon turn into a shout

A shout into a quiet voice

A quiet voice into a whisper

A whisper into utter silence

An evocative, powerful and thought-provoking poem. A clearly well-researched piece....it seems you are quite interested by Latin America. I guess space was a constraint for you. You overlooked one important part of the globe: South East Asia. Your poem could have made a brief mention highlighting the plight of the people in South East Asia, like the dictatorial military junta in Burma, what Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge did in Campbodia, Indonesia`s treatment of East Timor, Thaksin`s regime in Thailand and Lee Kwan Yu`s heavy-handedness in Singapore.

Nonetheless this poem is one of the best I have read thus far.......here you are truly at your best. Dont be phased by all these cyber-junkies who don`t cut you any slack. A lot of whom love to rumour-monger about you. You are a talented poet....keep on writing. Keep up the spirit.

Soma

while your essay dexterously highlights the cultural cohesion imbued through food, i would like to add my two pence: an identity crisis brews with the fadish ``cosmo`` girl`` look where most teenagers, women, and even desperate housewives, teri hatcher or not, desperately want to fit into those ultra teenie-weenie skirts. these glossy artsy superficial image-craving maidens get dissilusioned by food and go on these atkins diets which if sustained for a long time can cause irreperable damage.

though you are right food is seen as a cultural identity marker and uniter, by the same token it is also a bastion of venom which denies ``the cosmo`` puppet her genuine meal where a calorie and taste-free dish awaits her. the essence of enjoying a meal is lost. and so to are the cultural connotations accompanying it.

Bina u r hillarious !!

a few footnotes are in order:

Colin Farrell needs to go down to Walmart buy scissors and chippy chop those eyebrowse ...though he is cute they make the Guinness drinking Irish hunk look half-man half-ape

In satanist pursuits maybe you could have asked Jolie to ally herself with Marylin Manson and Ozzy Osbourne. Together they could devour rats and sell rat and bat blood on e-bay allowing MIT grads to breed a cross species of a novel kind.....

hang on that cross species would be Mr ``Showcute assets`` !!!

Ahhh to see the Mullahs hit the silver screens of Tinseltown after getting their green cards would surely turn Mr (Brad) Smith green with envy...

oh woody allen alas a script awaits you !!

moazammudasar you cliam that ``Terrorism stokes the flames if anything. The dictats of propoganda-based Madrassas``

cool down the hyper-bole not every malady in society can be pegged down to the ``madrassas``

Re: # 2
cipram you mention ``cayenne is right you writing depicts depression.change of place is must. London it self is depressing ,huge building and narrow streets.``

this ``change`` is not needed from the city of london, it is needed from society as a whole. it is needed from a girl who is obviously buying time and leaving everything to fate. it is needed from the capitalist econo-political imposed superstructure. it is needed from the ``chattering`` classes of society who say one thing and do another.

Re: # 9 moazammudasar

``Though this piece is dark and obscurantist, it is more Sartre than Kafka.``

Moazammudasar notice certain bits of this paper like ``Their Polaroid anorexic snapshot existences will click away without a flash`` or ``Oh babe the system swallows you like a Tsunami as though you are its natural victim`` or most gruellingly ``My blood-red patience wears thinner than a bulimia-laden epidemic``.

If this does not sound like Kafka in its tone, then what does ??

Ozerkhalid

This is an incredible piece of poetry ! It reveals a soul trapped in the confines of modernity trying to emerge out of its flames. It has a leftist/Marxist undertone with a nihilistic/Kafkaesque view toward society.

One of the best pieces I have read in a long time !
