Kolkata crowd deserves all the scorn heaped upon them for the disgraceful way in which they behaved at Eden Garden. However, BCCI has treated ganguly extremely shoddily. For all his fault, he is still the most successful Indian cricket captain who managed to win matches in England, Australia and Pakistan. India owes Ganguly is decent goodbye.

Obviously, they don`t call Friedman before making an important decision, but books like these influence the long term thinking of the business world. And Friedman does have an enormous influence on the US business world. Refer to the news item:

On a different note - Tom Friedman might be a complete moron with no knowledge; but he is still one of the most influential intellectuals around. Recently ``The World is Flat`` won the Financial Times and Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year Award. I don`t know others; but personally, I would care more about what GS thinks of Friedman`s book than what venerable ``New York Review of Books`` thinks of it.

Re: # 83
``There is no way Rural India can catch up with the Metro India. A bicycle can never catch up with a motorbike``

This is another bit of BS. This is mainly the wishful thinking of jealous and hateful individuals. People have been predicting a disastrous future for India and Indians ever since independence. First it was the impending famine and food fights. When that didn`t happen and India started exporting grains and fruits, people moved on to predicting that India itself will break up due to various separatist movements in places like Punjab, NE and - are you ready for this? - Tamil Nadu! Now that most of the so called separatist movements have fizzled out, people are predicting the next great civil strife due to the gap between rural and urban development.

As someone who grew up in a very small village, was educated in a `vernacular` language, and has seen the changes in the small town India first hand, all these predictions of impending doom due to class war only make me laugh. Later when I get time I will write a longer post refuting this BS.

P.S. I am not a great fan of Friedman. Like soyasouce, I too think that his take on things is rather simplistic and superficial. However, that does not mean that everything that he says is wrong.

That bit about rural indians who are educated in vernacular language missing on the growth opportunities is complete BS.

I second godot`s suggestion; but with just one amendment. Only interactors with rating 4 should be allowed to post realtime. Everyone else`s posts should be made to go through the editor`s filters.

Well I was looking for an organization that would give money directly to the people, rather than spending it on overheads and such. But thanks anyway

I think delhiwala doesn`t believe it was social descrimination either. He is just trying to redeem this piece by adding some social commentary to what, after all, is a Las Vegas tourist brochure.

Next time, please provide bullet points and numbered lists of your activities along with a power point presentation. That will be much easier to read and understand.

Only western civilization is allowed to be imperfect, a work in progress. The other civilizations of the world are worthless if they are not perfect right now. They are not allowed to improve, to progress. All they can hope is to be replaced by an imperfect western civilization. Thank god for white man`s burden and his civilization, eh?
