Mistri, Munshi, and Sipahi
haha! you are funny. Are you trying to prove that India made $10 billion in exports last year from DJ-ing, dog-walking and tattoo parlors? I guess you want to say that all those graduates of IIT, and IIMs are walking dogs, shaking booties, and coloring skins?
$10 billion yearly income are from Munshis (IT, call centers) of India (total budget $110 b)
$100 billion yearly income for China, thanks to their Mistris. (total budget $280 b)
$3 billion income for Pakistan, all because of his Sipahis. (total budget $15 b)
All these numbers may be off slightly but the picture remains the same. Chinese Mistris, Indian Munshis, and Pakistani Sipahis are bringing home the dough.
#26 bongdongs, My essay simply talks about regional strengths (and may be weeknesses). It didn`t refer to religion, or race. Your great-uncle deserves all the praise. However he was among the tiny minority of British Indian troops.

Bobmbay, Ahmadabad, and Calcutta were all industrial centers. However they were not on par with Chinese areas. Example of Hong Kong clearly shows how quickly Chinese factory workers started to dominate Asia.
1915 Kut campaign is tiny compared to 1942 landings of British Indian army at Basra following by control of Shaiba, and Habania. 3 Divisions of this army was mainly from North Western India including Punjab, and Frontier.

Political correctness is good. However too much of good thing may not be good. This essay is all about ``branding`` and a lot less about ``stereotyping``.
Here is a statement for the PC crowd. Toyota and Honda make good cars! I call it branding their names. Another statement! Chinese and Indians make good grad students in US schools. Again an example of branding.
Chinese workers are branded as good factory workers. They have proven it over many many years.
Indians provide good office workers. Again they have proven it over many many years.
Pakistanis provide good defense contractors. Yes! They have proven it over the last 60 years. Much before 1947, the regions that now comprise Pakistan plus Easter Punjab has fought alongside Western forces since 1830`s. Afghan wars, may have started with Bangal Lancers. Care to explain how many Bangalis were in that force?
I agree that exceptions to all the assertions are always there.
Thanks again for kind replies. I`ll try to address individual comments as my time permits.

It is time to contribute towards the stability of our country. Thank God army has been there for Pakistan. Otherwise we would be no better than Malakand under Sufi Mohammad, or worse yet, Somalia under Farah Aideed. Our history is unique and so do our present. Here is something that may help explain the state of Pakistan.http://longlivepakistan.blogspot.com/2005/06/mistri-munshi-and-sipahi.html

ha! Decline. This doom and gloom senario is the favorite for some of our Pakistani elite. Sitting in the comfy couches of the West, they tell us how bad the situation in Pakistan has become. For umpteenth time, hello, Pakistani`s have their identity and Pakistan will survive the ugly attacks of pseudo-intellectuals.here is more to read:

By democracy, we usually mean a government elected / selected by people and if necessary, kicked-out / destroyed by the people. Both of these actions need certain rules and regulations to avoid anarchy. Unfortunately Pakistani civilians need to undertand that stability is prime for the people. If they fail to deliver on that, army will be the plan B.
Watch out Brazil! Here we come!!!
Who stops soccer (football) lovers to own city teams and compete against each other? We have to be idiots of the highest order to ask the Pak government that it could never deliver. Time to take action and start your own league. Heck with international football. We ought to have fun at home first.
The same suggestion goes for basketball, hockey, and cricket too. No need to have these national teams when we can`t even support a local team. Everything has to start from grounds up. Leave few big issues for the Pak government and take control of the rest.

No use of kicking and screaming at PFF. Time to introduce a privately owned Pakistan Soccer League (PSL) if the name is not taken already.Who stops soccer (football) lovers to own city teams and compete against each other? Taxes are the key to progress of Pakistan and I say the ``right sized`` taxes. It is pathetic to see that only salaried employees have to file the income taxes. It is time to introduce a nation wide Tax filing day where everyone whether they owe any taxes or not, have to file a simple 2 page income declaration form.
