``If gas reaches 4.50 a gallon, they`ll dispense with such niceties and demand the marines take over the oil fields...

Don`t think for a minute that the US military doesn`t have contingency plans for just that...While they`re likely to be deployed should the saudi royal family get overthrown, 4.50 a gallon will do it...``

I guess Bush is drill a huge hole in Alaska at $4 a gallon and with draw some soldiers at $4.5. Congress will eventually say ````yes`` to both of them

Being Imrana
Posted by kannaraja Jul 12, 2005 12:45 pm
Can anybody tell me how the deoband is dealing with the FIL, is he given a sharia punishment or is he being handed to a criminal court. If he is already in a criminal court, why do we have double standards. Why isn`t any IM asking the deoband about this?

These deoband judgements/sharia laws are outdated and should be not be followed by IM. How many of well educated muslims or IM living in cities would accept this kind of judgement, if given.

Zafar:
``Imrana is more a proof of the failure of the state than a failure of Islam in India.``

It`s both. Failure of state to let a deoband issue judgement in a criminal offense and failure of Islam followers to accept this. What would happen if Imrana is forced to accept the judgement and the coward husband realises his cowardness and stupidity and goes to the court to reclaim his marriage.

Re: # 83

To read list is long for me.
Upanishads, vedas, Ramayana, Mahabharata, Geeta. Never got to read most of anything.
No inclination to add any new items to the list.

I am new to chowk and have noticed quite a bit of name calling and personal abuse on many topics. Would like to stay away from insulting followers of other religions and ``try`` to ignore insults coming my way.

I should try to contribute to the topic related and involve less on these side tracks.

Re #76, 74, 72

Singularity - You have theory and you reason to it. There are a billion muslims who disagree with your line of thinking.

If muslims are questioning Islam, good for them to know more about Islam.

``I thought Islam was meant to put an endto prevailing A-RAB tribal customs that were seen as primitive and ``immoral``?``

Wasn`t slavery abolished in ME much much before the west? I have to do a google on that to get the exact dates?

Singularity, Cheduevara, Mike:

I am a hindu and I do not know very detailed specifics about Mohammads life and I am least bit concerned about his marriage to Ayesha or being an ideal prophet. All I am saying is Ayeshas marriage could be due to prevailing conditions.

Child Marriages are illegal now, but in the past it was very much acceptable. What are the conditions in the 6th or 7th century Arabia, I do not know.

Sri Rama is considered an ideal man, inspite of leaving his wife during pregnancy for the sake of his people for reasons he best knew.

Re: # 65
A young girl marrying an adult man is still a child marriage? Do not you think? Sure they are illegal now. But they were very rampant in earlier societies even in India. Take a guess what could have been acceptable in society several centuries ago.

For what ever reasons Ayeshas marraige happenned, it was according to the prevailing conditions. What does it get you to pick on certain specifics in Mohammeds life?

It doesn`t bother me. I am least worried. And I am NOT a PEDO.

What do you think of child marriages in India which are still rampant in some states? Don`t you think those marriages are being consumated early? You are not worried or concerned about them, are you?

Re: # 9
Mike: Your comments about Muslims and Mohammed are unfounded, and pathetic.

Kashmakash - The majority of the muslims in India do not share your opinion. That`s the reason they are in India remember. Sure politics and recents incidents in India have definetely played into your line of reasoning but that is not a complete picture.
