If we have to defend our mosques, protect our women, and constantly plead our case about how great Islam is, we have already failed.

True Islam is when the non-Muslims are so impressed by our simplicity, our compassion, our love, our equality, our justice, our kindness, our standards, and our word that they want to beat down the doors of our mosques to join in and not to desecrate them.Salim

Good to see you again - twice in one day. This must be my lucky day.
Thank you, sir. I think that man has become too selfish and too irrational. If the Holy Prophet (PBUH) only cared for Muslims, there would be no Muslims. :)
I often think about that.

My dead people are more important than your dead people. My tears are more justified than yours. My bad boys have gone astray because of our society. Your bad boys are bad because of bad genes. A plane went down in the Atlicif Ocean, there were no people of our nationality on board - thank God! When will this selfish and stupid logic stop?

Nice try, but we are back to that ``Terrorism is bad, BUT ...``
For once, let`s stop providing any support to terrorists. There should be no comfort, no ``BUTs`` to qualify or dilute our utter disgust and anger at their actions. The only ``But`` I am willing to consider is ``Terrorism is bad, BUT those who recruit, plan, and dispatch these terrorists are the real bastards.``
We need to completely destroy these killers whereever they strike - Israel, Iraq, Kashmir, SE Asia, UK, Spain, US, and elsewhere. Both Islam and Pakistan are suspect in the eyes of the world for abetting, encouraging, and rewarding terrorists. It`s time to pull a Tally Ban rug out from under them. Go Mushy Go !

Pakistan’s Choice
Excellent and very timely article that has posed some very important questions. My friend, we need to be brutally candid here. Partition was a mistake and perpetuating a mistake is no solution. We can run back and forth among China, US, the non-existent Ummah, or even join the Organization of African Unity to seek the elusive reassurance and comfort that we have never attained. The basic fact remains that after decades of Indian struggle against British colonialism our leaders (and theirs) let us down and chose the path of division, destruction, bloodshed and divide and lose.
The choice that you did not mention is one of eventual reunification of India and Pakistan. It may be a bitter pill to swallow for most Pakistanis and many indians, but it makes the most sense. As a person of Pakistani origin, I don`t mean this to be a ``surrender`` or even ``thowing in the towel.`` Admitting a mistake and then correcting it is not a defeat but a brilliant recovery. The recent news about Tata Consultancy going into a joint venture in IT in Lahore is the right path. We should do everything possible to encourage economic cooperation leading to open borders, free movement, and eventual reunification.
Inida already has proven and viable political institutions. The people of Pakistan are resilient, vibrant, and usually flexible. We have experienced the debacle of `71, four long regimes under dictators, several years of corrupt and bloody ``democratic`` rule, and an accepted culture of violence, sectarian killings, intolerance, and suppression of human rights. Several things are clear:
1. A nation founded on religious zeal will not succeed.
2. Intolerance begets more hatred and even greater intolerance.
3. Islam has been reduced a mere tool for everyone - despotic tyrants, idiotic mullahs, corrupt, greedy, and unprincipled ``secular, liberal, progressives,`` and international terrorists.
4. We need an environment of stability, economic progress, peace, and security.
5. Religion should be sacred - an individual`s right to worship or not worship as he/she pleases.
Reunification of India and Pakistan will immediately solve the Kashmir problem. It may even make communal riots a distant memory. It`s worth a try. We have attempted and failed at so many other nonsensical approaches, why not try what we would have had if we had done nothing in 1947 and just accepted and enjoyed freedom from the British?
May both countries find the peace and happiness that their citizens deserve.

What a stupid display of utter stupidity. Take your own advice and stick an agarbatti up your ass.
PS - don`t forget to light it first.

This comment about Khamkhwa`s stupid article on FP got him so mad that he is proliferating profanity all over FP.
Lesson: Never criticize Khammy`s writing style. He can dish it out but can`t take it - only when it comes to criticism. Other things he can take in with great delight.

#49, Khamkhwa you take the cake for a confused Paki. Most Pakis are confused about the type of government they need, but you have a more basic confusion. How many times have you expressed your perplexion over your own gender? No wonder you can see issues from both sides of the sexual divide. :)

Paki press is a lot freer than it has ever been in the past. But, it still has a long way to go before it attains European or Indian standards of freedom.

You shouldn`t have included Peshawar or Kohat in that list. :) They prefer Shah Rukh Khan.

I have some more thoughts about the future course for Pakistan. Clearly a return to ``democracy`` would be national suicide. I have already described to you what I perceive are the intentions of the right-wing fundos and the ``liberal and progressive`` Pakis. One wants Tally Banization and the other aspires to rampant corruption for self-enrichment. Military dictatorship, while the sensible alternative in the short term, is no lasting solution. Mushy may depart for heaven any day and who knows which general Pakistan gets in this crap shoot of succession.
A more logical path for Pakistan would be to pursue economic collaboration with India that leads to eventual political reunification. I realize this may sound like heresy to many Pakis and even many Indians will vomit at the mere suggestion of union. The harsh facts are that Pakistan is headed for a bloody civil war and India cannot change neighborhoods. There are not enough U.S. Marines and too many suicidal maniacs who have the urge to merge with the 72 houris as soon as possible.
Indians should remember the `71 civil war in Pakistan that resulted in millions of refugees streaming into India and the ensuing domestic and international havoc. That event also provided India with the opportunity to permanently settle old scores and paralyze Pakistan into an insignificant banana republic. With reunification, several important benefits would immediately result:
1. Decreased military spending
2. Increased prospects for vibrant economy
3. Lessening of sectarian violence and danger of Tally Banization
4. Job opportunities for young Pakis
5. Uplift in the status of women
6. Great market for Indian products
7. Source of even cheaper labor for Indian industry
8. Karachi, the largest Hindi-speaking city in the world, a great market for Bollywood
9. Protection of Paki Punjab`s water rights
10. Complete solution of Kashmir issue - Pakis could claim that they WON in Kashmir - now that Kashmir belongs to THEIR country, and the Indians would agree. :)
