While democracy has been spreading and taking root in the rest of the world, most Muslim countries continue to be ruled by dictators, autocrats , despots or mullahs. Is this phenomenon related to the faith of Islam? Do we take it that the vast majority of Muslims in the world accept this state of affairs because they believe that Western concepts of democratic life is not in consonence with the Islam`s tenets and they think that now is how they should continue to live? It is strongly believed that if democracy is allowed to take root and flourish in the Muslim populated countries, this Islamic fanaticism that is so evident today might just dissipate, because the Muslims then would learn to coexist peacefully with the rest of the world.

Years ago when I was in Kashmir, I happened to witness a pow wow between two Kashmiri women. As the verbal fight went on and got more intense, one of the women held one of her breasts with both her hands and shook it vigorously in the direction of her opponent at the same time issuing forth a lot of hot words which could only be surmised as expletives.
Can any Kashmiri Chowki throw light on the significance of this kind of gesturing? I was told it is a gesture often employed by Kashmiri women during their scraps with other women.

Further to # 94, it also was during the Congress rule that the militancy in Jammu and Kashmir began , the cause being the Congress rulers in the Centre tried to rig the election in the state

The poster is obviously and justifiedly still carrying the scars of what happened during the miltancy in Punjab and the following unfortunate killing of Indira and even more unpardonable massacre of the Sikhs. No words are enough to condemn what happened and most of us are sympathetic to these unfortunate events.
Unfortunately right from before partition the Congress party has been the main villain for the Nation . Nehru bartered away Pakistan because he wanted the premiership. In 1948 Kashmir conflict India`s generals had requested for one more week to liberate entire Kashmir, Nehru decided to take the issue to UN. Had he heeded to the Army`s advice, we would have had a border with Afghanistan, got a direct land route to USSR and we would have been consulted on Afghan matters. This folly has allowed Pakistan to play the dog in the manger as for as our access to the Westerly countries is concerned.
In 1962 during Congress rule India had to face a humiliating defeat at China`s hands and today those dirty chinks are sitting on our territory. Instead of accepting the failure, Nehru had the cheek to say that the land we lost was like his bald (i think empty as well) head, where not a blade of grass grew.
The Congress alone has to be blamed for the unfortunate events in Punjab. By building up Bhindranwale Indira not only cooked her own goose but alienated the Sikh population by the assault on Harmandir Saheb. Her son Rajiv allowed the mayhem against Sikhs and created a further schism between the Sikh population and the rest of the country. With these stupid policies Congress cut off the sword arm of the Nation, because after the discrimination, suffering, killings, insults and ignominy that they have had to go through in those years it is anybody`s guess whether this magnificent community will wholeheartedly fight for the Nation in any future war as they had done in the previous ones.
The Congress under Rajiv created another blunder by sending the Indian troops to Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankans were laughing in their sleeves while our army was engaging the Tamil rebels, the same country which was earlier training Tamil tigers.
The Congress has not had enough , it wants to do further damage, the scoundrels VP Singh and Arjun Singh have ensured that caste system will survive for ever, let the country go to the dogs.
Now Congress has a foreign natonal as its party head and are flouting it too.

The poster at #80 has unwittingly admitted that it was Pak Army which was involved in the `47 Agression of Kashmir, a fact which has been all along denied by Pakistan saying it was a local uprising.

Hood(lum)bhoy`s piece is really verbose, monotonous and unstirring. One wonders if it can galvanise a generally supine people who have allowed the three Ms (Miltry, Mullahs and Mrica) to dictate their lives these past sixty years

One is seeing an unfortunate trend of criticising the Parsees. Parsees are one community which has contributed tremendously to India`s development whether in banking, industry, commerce, politics. sports, agriculture, science, education, defence, you name the field an d you will find names of Parsees in a prominent place.
Just because one Parsee behaves like a bhangi on the Chowk let us not paint a great community with a broad brush.
Restrict the criticism to this ehsaan faramosh Parsee bhangi whose only pastime seems to sniff people`s arseholes squatting by the raiway tracks

No border disputes as of now. Just wait for the citizens of of Pak-occupied Baluchistan to take their uprising to the next stage that is independence from Pakistan and reunification with Baluch territories of Iran and Afghanistan.

The lack of love for Pakistanis is not restricted to cabbies. A few years ago all Pakistani citizens were driven away from Uzbekistan barring a few that could be counted on the fingertips. This coming from a country which half the Pakistani population claims is the land of their forefathers ( the other half claiming Basra)
By the way, when his diatribe against the Pakistani was over, the driver turned to India and there was nothing but melufluous praise for India and how India for him was a country of his dreams and his accolades to Babur, Raj Kapoor, Indira Gandhi and Shah Rukh Khan.
One wonders what makes Pakistanis so popular? Pakistanis are not liked in the West which is understood but they are also disliked in many Muslim countries.
Seen in this light one supposes that Iran which has a centuries old Islamic civilisation treats Pakistan not as an equal but just as a poor relative who should be kept at a respectable distance.

Uzbeks likewise. A couple of years ago when in Tashkent, I took a (paid) lift in a car driven by an Uzbek. The driver asked me if I was from Pakistan, on hearing in the negative he really started BC-MCing the Pakistanis saying he just hated them. He had the following to say: once he gave a lift to a Pakistani. As soon as he sat in the car, the Pakistani, as is usually their ilk(trying to gain sympathy I suppose), started lecturing the Uzbek on Islam. The cabbie got so wild, he told the Pakistani, you MF, we are the ones who converted you to Islam and you are trying to teach me what Islam is? The lack of love for Pakistanis is not restricted to cabbies. A few years ago all Pakistani citizens were driven away from Uzbekistan barring a few that could be counted on the fingertips. What Went Wrong?
With him gone, the civil war that we see in Iraq was to be expected. The English speaking American Arab cronies who are ruling Iraq hardly enjoy any public support.
Whether Americans pull out or stay back, unfortunately the damage has been done, Iraq will never be the same again, sectarianism will not go away and common people will suffer.
Americans must understand that they cannot thrust democracy on the Iraqis, it is best to get out and let the Iraqis sort out the mess created by Bush

Bush will go down in history as the president that went terribly wrong. This stupid invasion of Iraq has actually added oil to the fire of Islamic terrorism. Saddam might have been a baddie but he did not really pose a threat to Western interests in the region as he did not have WMD , the only folly on his part being the occupation of Kuwait. He had the jehadi elements on a tight leash, and one might say his state had a stabilising effect in middle east politics. He was no supporter of Al Qaida either, so he did not qualify as an enemy in the War on Terror. With him gone, the civil war that we see in Iraq was to be expected.
