Vanishing temples of Thar and Nagar Parkar
Posted by ameerhamza Nov 1, 2006 10:50 am
Re: # 10: It is good to hear from experience people on board. I own a business in Karachi which sells, among other items, Clipsal switches and Casali water proof membranes. On the journalistic side, my work primarily focuses on places that are dying fast due to human explosion, population and otherwise. And Chowk is a fine place to contribute. I freelance for Dawn, Friday Times and International websites and magazines.

Re: # 10 - Thank you very much for such a detailed information. I have always known Abbotabad as a fine, British like place, with everything British about it.

I want to ask you whether you write for any newspaper. What is your real name and where do you reside now a days. I ask this because i think you will be able to sort out some of the places I have always wanted to visit.

There is one place called Tamba Wari, a city now gone with only masjid remaining. It is 30 km southeast of Karachi according to the dawn article; editor of dawn has not yet replied me about the person who wrote about it. do you know where is this location.

I contribute for dawn, friday times and recently i did a feature on chowkandi tombs for agency fish which works for CNN and sri lankan airline magazine, etc.

write soon. here is my personal email address

Re: # 4 - Hello there. Thank you for so much information. I visited Peshawar some years back and where I was staying only behind it were the splendid Sethi havelis.

Do you know about the havelis/mansions/palaces of Sind; i mean belonging to cities like Sukkur or Shikarpur. I would very much like to capture them on film.

Re: # 7. I am MBA student at Muhammad Ali Jinnah University, Karachi, also called MAJU by all and sundry. I was born on 12th May, 1982, that makes me 24 right now.

My basic aim in life is to travel. And when you travel you become obsessed with people, their dynamics, and off course you accept life as it is.

As for PIA, I like it because National Geographic rated it the worst baggage handler in the world; i love it because its airhostesses treat you like a beggar; and off course they are always short of coke. Once when I wanted water airhostess told me to get that from cabin!

So, there is a love-hate relationship with PIA that I have. And I always look forward for yet adventure.

Re: # 3 actually trying to gather up soaps, shampoo bottles, even towels has been my passion. but now that i have grown up - too fast, must I say - i no longer steal any of those. But never have my friends suspected me of any wrong doings because most of them started travelling with me when i was finished with those stealings....

I like reading your articles. And I wait for them at Dawn. They tell me - and all students - that science cannot be treated as a holy cow. It will have to be dissected.

Unfortunately, in Pakistani schools/colleges/universities there is a problem that is perhaps rarely addressed. Most of the professors are not willing to imagine that scientific explanations can be wrong. They can`t imagine a Pakistani student saying something against a scientist.

We need to understand that science - and human civilization - can only proceed when we place arguments. They may be against any theory or `fact`.
