An Empire in the Making
It is amazing how we manipulate interpretations of unfolding events to suit our fantasy.
I believe “Nations do not go to war, their leaders push them into one and often the leaders recede into background while people fight for the country.” America did not go to war George W Bush pushed it into Iraq war, similarly Saddam didn’t fight for Iraq, it’s people did even if they didn’t succeed. In this context it important to view role of Iranian president Ahmadinejad. As some interactors have said, Iran is in dire straits. When there is need for tact and strategic retreat, this fool is breathing fire.
It is a tragic irony that a botched American adventure in Iraq is coming to Iran’s rescue, but only temporarily. As soon as fire in Iraq subsides or fades away from public eye and world finds itself busy in some messy trade dispute, America will invent reason to invade Iran. It wouldn’t matter who is morally right, it never does. In world stage morality is an extremely stretchable commodity.
My worry is children and women. Ever seen raw terror! Look into the eye of a little child whose parents are cornered and about to be butchered in a riot. First the adrenaline would sharpen his reflex response and then overdose of it will completely immobilize him, turning him into a zombie. If he survives, the images will haunt him forever.
I can never visualize ‘Politics by other Means’ clinically. It is always blood, gore and maiming of innocents. An old saying, “When two elephants fight, the grass always suffers”
Both Bush & Ahmadinejad are dangerous morons. Know why I said Iraq is a tragic irony? Every day and every hour children come in contact with raw fear.

What a Sheikh Chilli dream! Forget the entire west, can the entire Middle East collectively fight Israel?
Having sovereignty over Energy in one thing regulating it against the wishes of the world will be entirely different thing.

The Violent Face of South Asia
I know M V Kamath is a well-known journalist (I think he retired a long time ago and for a while applauded BJP too) that doesn`t mean everyone has to agree to his views.
For instance I disagree with his generalization that cause of violence everywhere is skewed distribution of wealth. A lot of violence is due to redrawing of caste equations particularly in area what is called Hindi belt. Nobody gives up power easily and those entrenched for centuries will hardly surrender it without violence. Southern states too had their share of caste violence but now the caste equations are more or less stabilized in south.
And by the way Naxalite movement was put down by Sidhartha Shankar Ray of Congress and not CPM.

Amitabh to Ayodhya
You cannot expect woman/man on the street to be a hardcore rationalist. When Indira Gandhi was killed, people voted en mass for Rajiv Gandhi not knowing anything about him except that he was her son. And it is again unreasonable to expect Amitabh telling his friends and relations not to visit him at hospital and expect that they will listen to him. When Manmohan Singh became Prime Minister he told his colleagues not to line up at airport on his foreign visits, have they listened to him?
People are impulsive and they will remain impulsive. By the way Amitabh is already campaigning for AIDS awareness and other public causes.
At the same time one cannot deny author her right to express her anguish and exasperation at the silly goings on.
So what do we get? Result neutral!

Why is God not female?
After all basic form is female i.e. X chromosome is ubiquitous and holds map of female structure. We are all born female until Y chromosome triggers and makes changes for male form. Some times if Y control gene triggers partially we have deficient males. In very rare occasions Y control gene fails to fire completely then we have XY female!
XX will never be male.
Shouldn’t God be She?

``Pakistan wants to be open and frank in dealing with all issues while India, may be in line with Hindu mentality, wants to be secretive and confidential. ``
What is Hindu mentality?
Are Hindus monsters in Pakistani psyche?
I remember one anecdote Saed Naqvi related in his column when India Pak relations began to thaw. He was a guest in a Pakistani home along with one of his Hindu friends. One morning he was cornered by the kid of his guest who incredulously asked him, ”Why are you moving around with that man? He is a Hindu?”

The Trial of a Nation
Morality at the level of nations has no meaning. You have Bomb now, worry about its safety. Soon it will be realized that keeping bombs is more expensive than making them.

I am not well versed in nuclear stuff but my understanding is that India`s 1974 bomb was made from reprocessing spent fuel in Canada aided Tarapur atomic reactor. Canadian reactor was light water reactor unlike pressurized heavy water reactors India builds for its energy needs. Light water reactors need much more enriched fuel than heavy water reactors. India produces its nuclear bombs from reprocessing spent fuel.
India has very little natural Uranium for its own needs therefore import it. But India has largest deposit of thorium (found in sands of Kerala) India is building fast breeder reactors which uses Thorium as clad to uranium core. Reaction converts thorium into Uranium, thus these reactors produce more fuel that they consume
