AhmadMadni
In your opinion strikes, bloodshed, lawlessness, corruption, pollution, nepotism, bigotry, polarisation, violence, intolerance all are signs of a thriving and vibrant nation!

I am just speechless. I only hope there arent many nuts who share your views.

Farzana,

very convincing and articulate but,
It appears you do not represent the popular opinion on US and Bush in India;

`Indians are significantly more positive about the US now than they were in the summer of 2002, a new opinion poll has said.
The 2005 Pew Global Attitudes survey found that 71 per cent of Indians have a favourable view of the United States and 54 per cent admire President Bush in handling world affairs.`
--THE TIMES OF INDIA Mar 01, 2006

I do not doubt the accuracy of this poll. However I wonder what will be the result if the opinion of 140 muslims of India are counted only.

There is no doubt that India ( the hindu majority) and US are natural allies against war against terrorism; a.k.a war against those wretched muslim jehais and fundamentalist.

The Interview

Indian Hindu girls (and boys) who marry christian Whites in US, enjoy celebrity status amongst the NRI community.

Go back in history ; earlier moghal emprors favourite wives were hindu. It was common and customary for the ruling muslim elites to have Hindu wives, perhaps to gain the loyalty of hindu majority. Indeed mother of Empror Jehangir was hindu. Even though we do not see any evidence of hindu elite marrying muslim girls, We could say that, in that era, the intermarriage between faiths at highest rungs was not only common, but encouraged. Within masses however it has been always been a taboo.

I can recall the shock I felt when I learned that a US educated daughter of a friend had married her american colleague , even though he had converted to Islam. The imprints of religious, social and cultural taboos have been deeply ingrained into our psyche. I do not think that most of us can rise above this prejudice and think and act judiciously.

In the US, the interfaith marriages are common between Christian, Jews and Muslims, but marriages between blacks and whites of any faiths are relatively rare and confront similar rejection and silent condemnation from the society at large.

I came to know recently that the Indian Government was collecting the data about the minorities in public service and facing sever resistance from the Army, who did not want to provide this information. Presumeably the representation of muslims in the army is minuscule; every one knows that the other minority ,sikhs, have a far greater share of representation in Armed Forces vis a vis population.

There could be several measures which could be adopted by Indian Policy makers to bring the impoverished muslims into the main stream of the nation. The Muslims could be awarded a quota in jobs and the law makers could make rules to severly penalize the individuals and organizations who discriminate on the basis of religion.

If Ranjana Shabbir Ahmad would have been a US resident and suspected that her marriage to a Muslim played any role in job refusal; a horde of shrewed trial liars would have snacthed the opportunity and easily secured few millions for her in awards and a hefty fee to themselves too.

Would India be a Threat to the Islamic Conference?

The OIC came into being as reaction to the burning of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The Muslim populace was angered world over and the nincompoop Heads of States, under popular pressure to do something (all of them dictators , kings and sheiks) decided to have a meeting in Morocco at the invitation of another despot, whose atrocities (on his muslim subjects) can rival those of Ghengez Khan. The divesion was effective and political mileage the leaders gained at home was tremendous. It gave these despots enough motivation to continue with this illusion as long as it is benefited them.

I remember that when the second confrence of the Head of States was held in Pakistan, Z.A was hailed as the Greatest Muslim Leader of all times, who united the Ummah, for first time in history, under one Banner.

The stated objectives of OIC are deliberately generalized, non-specific and academic. For example `to promote Islamic solidarity among Member States` and `to take necessary measures to support international peace and security founded on justice`. This organization does not require its members to meet any specific political, economic or social s€tandard. In its 47 years of existence, it has lived up to the intentions of its creators and played no role in conflicts and wars amongst member states; In any calamity or other issue confronting the Muslims. This organization has no analogy with other potent breeds like UN, EU, NATO, Warsaw Pact, common wealth or even Gulf Cooperation Council.

India, with a proven stable political system and rapidly expanding economy is on an irreversible path to the major league in the world affairs. The primary aim of Indian policy planners to infiltrate into the OIC, is domestic and politicaly motivated. The party successful with creating the bridgehead will be credited by the large restive mulim population. Fruthermore India also wants to avail every opportunity to prop up its role in International bodies, which augurs well with its inevitably powerful future stature. It should be noted that OIC already has many member african countries with minority muslim population. In my view the entry of India in to OIC is inevitable and could rather be advantagous in putting new spirit in this dead horse.
The policy makers in Islamabad need to overcome their spasm and creatively use the situation to their advantage as much as possible.
Islamic Banking – a Sham

Interesting article; Very articulate and to the point. Kudos for the writer.

The Islamist Elites and the Rulers, inadvertently or by purpose, have created immense confusions in the every day life of ordinary people. In my life time, I have seen authentic Fatwas by learned Imams against Prize Bonds, Lottery, Insurance, Bank Accounts, Purchase on Installments, House Buliding Advance, Provident Fund Profits, Saving Certificates, Defence Certificates and everything else. Needless to say that inspite of all the hoopla hoo Fatwas, which masses do not believe any way, whosoever could afford any of these financial products, has benefited from them.

What has the Islamic Repubic of Pakistan done so far in this respect ? They committed the greatest bank robbery in the name of Islam, when every one having a bank account was deprived of 2.5% overnight, without any notice or warning ; the robbery of this Zakat continues to date providing great financial muscle to the politicaly appointed Zakat committees and their members.

I do not believe there can be anything to be called `ISLAMIC BANKING` . There were never such an animal and there never will be. Its another of those of things which is invented to exploit the masses in the name of religion. Just like the Desi Quakes call their so called medicinal practices Tib-e-Islami.

Does changing of name from Interest to Profit make it kosher. We are living in a different world and ,like it or not, we can not stop the march of time.

I am a (practicing) Muslim - Alhamdo-Lillah

There is no denying that people in the west are perhaps as good or as bad humans as we are. We all like to be around people who are similar to us; in race, in belief and culture. Occassionaly one come across a pathetic individual who will not even try to hide his prejudices. But It is no more sever here than the discrimination a punjabi faces in frontier or vice versa, and I say that with my first hand experience.

It is however utmost important that Laws of Land do not discriminate on the basis of religion or ethnicity. Regretably in most of the Muslim societies they are and in Almost all the Kafir world , they are not.

and #19 try wearing that table cloth on your head in any Arab country, probably police will haul you for imposing as a local ( how dare you try to be equal to us ). Again my own personal experience and not a heresay.

As far as this place is concerned I go to mosque for prayers in Shalwar Suit and feel very comfortable wearing it.

Re: # 11
I could not agree more with you. Having lived in middle east and now in west, I can squarely say that Muslims of foreign origin enjoy immensly more rights and freedom to practice their religion and culture in the west.
If you want to find out what racism is, have a short trip to the heartland of Islam.
