Citizenship and Identity in Pakistan

Re:#285 by masanamuthu

I think it is time we Indians confer the Padma Shri to Jinnah saab. He envisaged a situation where the trouble makers, the riff raffs of his community would hinder the development of an independent India and so got a moth-eaten wasteland where these people could settle down and do what they do best...........

Today Jinnah Saabs wasteland is an internationally acclaimed export oriented nation; exporting high quality Islamic terrorism, Jehadism, nuclear weapons and the likes.......

Other then nuclear weapons, they first do several dry runs on their own citizens and then after fine-tuning, start exporting..........................

If you happen to be a citizen of this wasteland, you are a most welcome visitor to other countries; the immigration officials there always make it a point to spend extra time with them to welcome them...................

Jinnah saab for Padma Shri.............

`` Yes...this maybe true.......It is true for people in all countries, i.e. they are more interested in wealth creation.......However, if this is true, then why do so many Indians on this site attempt to comment on Pakistan, with so much authority........One cannot have it both ways.... ``

Bulleya, what has wealth creation got to do with commenting on Pakistan.........Nothing..! I am commenting on Pakistan based on what other Pakistanis are saying........What they are saying may not be palatable to a Pakistani but it brings no joy to an Indian either..........

``If you dig deep enough, all political issues have economy tied to them......Bangaldesh breaking away was based on economy (and language)........Bengalis felt, West Pakistan was not giving them ample % in the economy........They tried to obtain that through elections, but weren`t allowed........Rest assured had East Pakistan been wealthier than the West, it would not have broken away.......``

Bulleya, your skew on Bangladesh sounds idiotic to me. Look at the contradiction; .....`` Rest assured had East Pakistan been wealthier than the West, it would not have broken away.......``

So West Pakistan would have then broken away from East....!!!

``I have made the trouble of going to India........That, itself, requires quite an open mind........Would it be correct to assume you have had enough of an open mind to visit Pakistan?........

Most certainly I shall be visiting Pakistan, Inshallah by Oct-Nov this year; btw I shall not visit Pakistan to ennumerate # of Hindus/Sikhs in I T Industry or keep tabs on how many Hindus/Sikh names I come across in my official meetings (They dont pay me to do that).

I shall meet, interact and enjoy my experiences of Pakistan...Thats it.....No census taking.....No irrelevant data collection....No SWOT Analysis..................:)

......Bulleya, the average Indian is now more focused on wealth creation and is not interested in knowing anything about pakistan, more so in the South. Ask your friendly autowallah in Chennai or Bangalore about Pakistan and they would have vaguely heard about it more in association with Bomb blasts than anything else.

.....In another board where a Pakistani punjabi said Pakistan would not exist beyond 2020, almost all Indians did not want reunification with pakistan.....reasons......Better to have a buffer state(s) on our western border......Islamic fundementalists would ruin India. This view was most prominent amongst North Indians, .....so even if pakistanis are very similar to North Indians the bottom line is ``we do not want you or want to be like you``....

Bangladesh breaking away has got nothing to do with Pakistan`s economy in the 70`s; you know the real reasons for it.........

IT industry and Muslims not being there......It is an equal opportunity employer where the best is recruited irrespective of religion etc.........But yes, overall there is a lower number of Muslims in the IT industry.........But more in the Media industry............

For your theories to be right my friend you, you first need to come to India with an open mind..............

Me thinks this is one of those gender divides; women love storing stuff while men are more the use and throw types. I read somewhere that any item which one has not used for 1 year can be safetly discarded; tried it at home, didn`t work. Wifey thinks 1 year to be replaced by 25 years.

Ahmad, What is the genesis of this Pan-Islamism in Pakistan and do the majority of Pakistanis accept it? In the early 50`s there was a more serene Sufi Islam practised in India & Pakistan; some of the religious practices were eerily similar to Hinduism.

Again when you say `` Pakistani-Ntionalism and Pan-Islamislm are in fact one and the same thing`` is there no identity as a Punjabi or Sindhi in Pakistan.

Re: #8:

You must appreciate that India has a strong judiciary which made the Gujarat Govt accept the fake encounters & a strong network of NGO`s & human rights activists. Both these bodies have become extra vigilante which is the way they should be. Despite this, there are incidents which are more an exception than the rule.

POTA has been removed by the present Govt 2 years ago....

Look at the photo under the title,`` [Victory for the virtuous] ``. Who are these people?
Haloween characters, Ninja turtles, walking tents, women in shuttlecock burquas. Which is the correct name?

Hey Kamath,

They could be suicide bombers, wanting to blow their countrymen & women sky high so that they enjoy 72 houris & shouries. Any idea, what do they do if they need more than 72.

RE:#2 Various too many to redress:

You need to get your facts right; Ltte is a Srilankan issue,Maoist is a Nepali one and the others are the lunatic fringe elements, common in any developing country.

Take pakistan as an example; No rights for minorities, no rights for certain muslim sects like Ahmediyas and rampant discrimination against Sindhis & Baluchis.

In India an independent judiciary was the one which forced the Gujarat Govt to accept its responsibility for the fake encounter; unlike pakistan where the Chief Justice can be removed on the whims & fancies of a tin-pot dictator...

Get your facts right, for Gods sake........

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - About 1,000 Afghans shouting ``Death to Pakistan`` demonstrated in front of Pakistan`s embassy in Kabul Wednesday, blaming the neighboring country for some of the bloodiest border clashes in years.

Many of the demonstrators were from the eastern province of Paktia, where the fighting between Afghan and Pakistani troops killed at least 13 Afghan border guards and civilians so far this week.

The demonstrators carried banners and shouted ``Death to the ISI! Death to Musharraf,`` a reference to Pakistan`s intelligence agency and President Gen. Pervez Musharraf.

Afghan police wearing riot gear guarded the embassy in downtown Kabul. There were no reports of violence.

``We`ve run out of patience with Pakistan,`` said Sultan Uddin, 50, from the Jaji district of Paktia. ``We`re requesting President (Hamid) Karzai to give us weapons and remove the border police. We know how to deal with Pakistan.``

Tensions have been running high between Afghanistan and Pakistan over controlling their 1,510-mile border, and stemming the flow of Taliban and al-Qaida militants who stage attacks inside Afghanistan.

The squeeze has begun!

Khamy, you will be surprised to know that a majority of Indians do not want any reunification with Pakistan. In another Interact by a Pakistani Punjabi who said Pakistan will not survive by 2020, the majority of Indians did not want any truck with Pakistan.Mine was the minority voice but I too have changed my mind!

`` Parkash

The notion of not having a Pakistan at all is a blow for the supporters of both ``Pakistani Nationalism`` and ``Pan Islamism``.

Sure, it is a fatal blow. Unfortunately Pakistan was never meant to be a Muslim homeland, instead it was created as a home for some Muslims, mainly from UP.

On a lighter note, we Indians will badly miss not having Pakistan;

Where else can an Indian get the excellent hospitality other than in Pakistan.

Which other nation can fascinate us like Pakistan.

A boring game called cricket becomes very interesting when played against Pakistan

Our Politicians will have to search for any country to play ``Blame Game``

And many more......

Ahmad,

Thanks for the clarification. On a different note, Pakistanis in this forum seem to be reacting more with emotion than reason (understandably so); while

Indians seem very wary of Pakistan rejoining India! Majority does not want it.....??

Curious...Is it because a new generation of Indians are around with greater political awarness without the baggage of Partition...
