Dr. Sohail, I must say first of all, that creating is better than critiquing, so you are already better off than I, as I am about to critique ;).

Okay, so, here are my 2 shiny pennies for you:

Dear Sudanese brothers and sisters,

I understand that you respect the prophet (PBUH), and don't want to offend him, but you should not take it upon yourselves to police that no-one else ridicules the prophet either.

Prophets are always ridiculed by opposing religions. In fact, if your prophet is not getting bad mouthed or ridiculed, perhaps you are not backing the right prophet. Perhaps your prophet does not have enough attention in the world.

Which brings me to naming a teddy bear Mohammad.

I know that you guys are wary of teddy bears. I also know that you are wary of missionary white teachers. Especially if they name that suspicious teddybear Mohammad.

However, please consider that the Teddy bear was made by some poor innocent Chinese in a sweat shop somewhere. The prophet always spoke for the oppressed, and would have supported these workers. Furthermore, the prophet told his people to travel to China if they have to, for education. Do you think he would be offended by China coming to the people?

Lastly, a teddy bear is no match, in offensiveness than, say Mohammad Zia-ul-haque. That is where people should have been really offended and slayed the bastard for offending the prophet. There are many others that are named Mohammad, and they are despicable people. So please, instead of fighting with the Teddy bear, fight with those people first.

an unbiased and strong judiciary, land reforms, and new regulation for checks and balances for government administrations are essential for a real democracy. For a government by the people, for the people.

I understand that Nadeem has a different view of Musharraf than I do. What he and I appear to share is the healthy dose of skepticism we have of the so called lovers of "democracy".

You have eloquently described all that I have been incoherently rambling about on unplugged.

At first, I was shocked at myself as well. Why o why would I have protested against the Zia monster, and then turned around and not gone apeshit at Musharraf?

Perhaps it has to do with the hypocrisy of the "supporters" of "democracy". These very people are encouraging the completely arrogant and ignorant reactionary forces to spread and grow stronger using the gun as a weapon in nwfp, and TV in the cities.

Bravo for writing this wonderful piece!

Can Religious Leaders Redeem the Future of the World? Also, I want it to be noted that I agree with most of what masadi the fasadi writes. Other than his anger directed at gentle souls like Gill sahib and Dr. Sohail. I also support his fury at Manto, for I think that cretin truly deserves it.
