The top US military commander and the CIA official were also asked why the CIA-run predator and the US military did not swing into action when they were provided the exact location of Baitullah Mehsud, Pakistan’s enemy number one and the mastermind of almost every suicide operation against the Pakistan Army and the ISI since June 2006.
One such precise piece of information was made available to the CIA on May 24 when Baitullah Mehsud drove to a remote South Waziristan mountain post in his Toyota Land Cruiser to address the press and returned back to his safe abode.

Pakistan may step up action against insurgents
Monday, August 04, 2008
WASHINGTON: Anxious to avoid a US intervention or cutoff of funds, Pakistan government is proposing military and intelligence changes that both countries say are needed to counter the growing threat from insurgents, the Los Angeles Times reported American officials as saying.
Pakistan wants to deploy a specially trained unit of its Special Service Group into tribal areas along its western border. The region has become a haven for al-Qaeda and Taliban forces that increasingly are attacking Western soldiers in Afghanistan, officials say.
The Pakistani commando division, trained by the United States, is an elite special operations force similar to the US Army's Special Forces, or Green Berets. Pakistan has been criticised for sending conventional troops who do not have training in the kind of guerrilla warfare techniques that US officials say are needed to fight the militants in the tribal areas.
"The Americans tell us that they need action now," said a senior Pakistani official who was in Washington last week during Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani's meetings with President Bush. Deployment of the special Pakistani force "will meet the American demand of immediate action."

Rice hints at US action in Fata
Monday, August 04, 2008
By Sami Abraham
WASHINGTON: Underscoring the need for immediate military action in Fata and areas adjacent to the Pak-Afghan border, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has indicated that use of some US power along with the full Pakistani power may be on the cards to eliminate the terrorists groups there. Talking in a gathering of Aspen Institute in Colorado, Dr Rice said: “Fata has become a region where efforts to forge peace agreements with the militants, I think, are frankly not working. And instead, the militants are finding a place that they can train and equip.” Dr Rice was of the view that terrorists in Fata were not only dangerous for Afghanistan but also for Pakistan. She said: “It’s extremely important that Pakistan do something about that. It’s going to take all elements of Pakistan’s power, national power, as well as some of ours, to improve that situation.”

He said he would call them illiterate who wanted an extremist Pakistan. He said a crucial responsibility rested with the people in this regard. He lamented that it was a bad luck for the nation that 'we had begun to think when we were almost drowned.' The present situation was extremely dangerous. The central and provincial governments as well as law enforcing agencies should have one voice as there should be no conflicting situation among them.

The investigation by gillani into the isi is the start of micro managing of pakistan. The forthcoming 15 billion dollar funding will be micro managed and that is the only way to ensure that the money will not end up with the jihadis. Builiding schools in fata will only provide office space for the jihadis, the same with any kind of facility, and the jihadis should be left to teh devices of the koranic times.
While the tahmeds criticise my comments, good to see that the good people of karachi are following my advice. They have put up posters against the talibanisation of karachi, as the jihadis are moving to karachi to escape the predators.

The poor gillani tellking thet he cannot take on the jihadis because of teh absence of FM jammers and predator is stupid.
Why should pakis need predator, why cant the use garden variety bombs on the jihadis, the poor gillani was not briefed. he was simply repeating what he was advised.
This is representative of the pak sustem, the so called educated have p[aseed the exam through copying, then they have got good jobs through nepotism, and this has resulted in all of teh top technicrats being incompetent.
It is this pervasive incompetance that is ruining pakistan, just as an example, pakistan lost the basmati patent, PIA was banned from europe for a few months, EU has banned all of fishery exports from pakistan and finally a B777 flies through massive hail, despite the weather radar and is still on the ground ( two weeks ) in europe for repairs.
Of course when I propose this kind simple factual explanations, obviously the pakis are annoyed.

This also represents a broader failure of the paki foreign policy in aligning so much with the chinese. FDinally the indians are making the pakis to do the monkey tricks.
When indians say they want the isi to be investigated, the pakis obey.
The type of thi9ngs to come, and obeying indians is the only way out for the pakis, other wise they will have to eat the grass, sorry no, stuff with cotton.

Pakistan's agony

Our prime minister's visit to Washington ended with a whimper. If the stories coming out of Washington are correct then the poor man got what he did not deserve. He is a gentleman. Pakistan, for many decades, has been a two-layered system; those who are shown on TV every evening performing powerful deeds are actually not the ones with real power – which rests with the military, and there cannot be two thoughts about that.
Admiral Mike Mullen, the chairman of the US Joint Chief of Staff, and deputy director of the CIA Stephen Kappes visited Pakistan on July 12 before the prime minister's Washington visit. They had brought alleged proof of the ISI's complicity with Jalaludin Haqqani, a Taliban commander with links to Al Qaeda, who ran a militant network in Afghanistan's Khost province. Pakistan was warned to clean up this mess or face other consequences. It was after receiving this warning that the prime minister, before his departure to Washington, ordered the issuance of a notification bringing the ISI under the control of the interior ministry. The façade of Pakistan's democracy was shattered when the prime minister's notification was rescinded in his absence the next day. The prime minister was asked in his meeting with the Council of Foreign Relations in Washington whether he had control over his military. He confidently said he did!

madani saab,
No translator and no lobyist and no finishing school can solve the reality that gilani has delivered to the world. What you see in gillani is an exaggerated scene of hwat is on chowk, day in and day out, the pakis not able to express themselves, and resorts to abuse, name calling and urdu words. Take the posts of tahmed, zeemax and the like.
They do not have any substance, they do not have any new interpretations of teh reality, mere repititions of what is in the book.
No wonder, if teh educated of pakistan are like the ones on teh chowk, then the leader of pakistan need to be one like gillani.
The country is rude and crude and un-sofisticated, goverened by teh a book of antiquity, where the ducated elites accept murder as simple acts in accord with a book as included in the hoodood laws, well such a country is well represented by Gillani...sometimes truth has to be revealed.

Folio,
My posts are bashing of the paki with a mirror, so that they can see themselves while being bashed. They completely missed the way they were treated by their US ally, they failed to note that the Us treats them like beggers, and no you have so many pakistanis discussing that following my posts.
Most of the time even chowk sensoring is aimed at denying the reality to the pakis, have a look at my sensored posts, they are simply news items whihc portray the un0discussed aspects of the pak society.
There is one about the beggers of islamabad, dutifully censored by chowk, so that the pakis can keep talking about the poor of india while portraying pakistan as a country devoid of teh poor.

SLAMABAD: Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani's arrival in the US for an official visit earlier this week was bereft of any diplomatic courtesies extended to visiting foreign leaders.
On arrival at the Andrews Air Force Base in Washington on Sunday afternoon, Gilani had to walk from his aircraft to a welcome shed, a distance covered in two to three minutes.
While walking this distance, Gilani and his wife “were seen quite perturbed as neither there was an ordinary carpet nor the customary red carpet, as is usual on official visits”, The News daily reported.
At the gate of the shed, Gilani was received “by none higher than Assistant Secretary Richard Boucher,” the report said.
All ministers and others accompanying Gilani on his first visit to the US after becoming the Prime Minister were told to remain in the aircraft. This prompted Information Minister Sherry Rehman to mildly protest at the treatment they were getting.

definitively you sound new, what a change, and do not tell me that it is due to the censorship by chowk.
At least I agree with your last post on the future of pakistan. Good to see the break up of pakistan discussed, first the idea has to be accepted and talked about, then it becomes a reality.
I also liked the latest sequence of events, India accuses ISI of involvement in bombing, ISI is changed and changed back, bush takes up the same topic with paki PM.
The break up of ISI is not far away. In any case, with so much of leak in ISI operations, its effectiveness is sure to dwindle. Indians and the US have penetrated the ISI.

Textile export problems
EVERY day we hear about problems faced by the textile industry in Pakistan, with high cost and low prices offered by buyers.
I have been working as a buyer in a sport apparel company in New Jersey for three years and before that I was an assistant buyer for a home textile importer for almost two years. I have worked with many companies from various countries.
My experience with Pakistan’s businessmen is that many are not good salesmen (exceptions are there). They don’t know how to get better prices for their product. We buy huge quantities of apparel from Nepal, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh but their salesmen are tough negotiators as compared to Pakistan’s.
If I tell a Pakistani salesman that I am getting X prices from his competitor in Pakistan, then this gentleman will immediately reduce his prices by five to 10 per cent, without even giving second thoughts. In fact I was just bluffing and the salesperson falls into my trap.

$900m sought from ADB to improve reserves
By Ihtashamul Haque
ISLAMABAD, July 30: Pakistan is desperately seeking $900 million from the Asian Development Bank by October this year to improve its fast depleting foreign exchange reserves.
Sources told Dawn that the bank, which had earlier disbursed $850 million, out of $1.9 billion lined up for calendar year 2008, has been requested to rescue the government by releasing preferably in one tranche the amount of $900 million by October this year. This funding is meant for improving energy sector and infrastructure development programme in the country.
The sources said that Islamabad told the bank that there had been $5.5 billion drawdown in reserves during the last few months due to higher oil and food imports that created lot of problems.
The sources said that Pakistan had been advised to achieve financial discipline to improve its deteriorating economy and qualifying for increased bank’s assistance in 2009.

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Althou gh the prime minister’s formal address was a well-prepared document, which successfully presented Pakistan’s case in the war against terror, balancing domestic concerns with its international obligations, the question-answer session was a different story.
Apparently, the prime minister had come to the meeting without proper briefing and preparations.
It was obvious that the format was difficult for him. And it did not help that the CFR president conducted the meeting.
The method he used – a combination of wit and probe – could have shaken even a seasoned speaker and had the desired effect on the prime minister as well. Later, some in the audience observed that the prime minister’s team had failed him.
A PPP enthusiast suggested that “this was a conspiracy to make the prime minister look bad”.
Others saw no conspiracy but they, too, appeared unhappy.
