Zahra #412: I had suggested before the interview that Benazir is now cornered. The whole world is now aware of her corruption. Her two trump cards of denouncing the military govt. and presenting herself as a, ``westernized`` alernative are down the drain, now also. She cannot criticize Musharraf as the US (and most Pakistanis) have now seems to have figured out that he is the right man to back.

Asif Naqshbandi #401: As someone who has followed the Kashmir issue more closely and personally than probably anyone on this site, I think I can safely state that Pakistan`s position is now stronger than it has ever been historically on the Kashmir issue. The chances of a Kashmir solution now are greater than they have ever been. India has never been in such a defensive position on this issue, as it is right now.
The US stance has always been to support the right of self-determination in Kashmir. The US is not going to do anything against Pakistan now. Nothing. Zero. This is a new phase of a long-term alliance, with Musharraf at the head. He is becoming a hero in the US media circles. His definition of differentiating between fighting terrorism and supporting freedom fights is now going to become the international standard, as he is one of the only people in the world whose govt. has actively participated in both. A friend of a friend in the Pakistani Foreign Service told me that Bush called Musharraf and emotionally told him if he opposed the US, Pakistan would turn into Afghanistan, and if he supported the US, the US would ensure that Pakistan becomes a very prosperous country. yeah..it's funny how pakis, who've lived under the boot of the military for most of their 60 years, are now yearning for democracy.
the fact of the matter is that they're against their military dictator because he's being forced to do something that has really hurt their honor and dignity..that fig leaf they use to cover their own inability to keep up with india.
If, instead of bombing the pakis of jihadi persuasion, the dictator was sending his jihadis to kill india, the paki people would be fully behind him.
It's hard for pakis to see India rising up while their country is the byline in every terrorism story...

Let's be clear. The US doesn't want democracy in Pureland the way you imagine it. It wants a democratic facade...a managed affair with their annointed benazir taking reins...which is why it's pushing benazir down the throats of pakis...do you seriously believe that mushy let benazir into pureland of his own accord and bomb-you-to-the-stone-age ka chota bhai had nothing do do with it?
Do you seriously think that if Bush really wanted free and fair elections in pureland, he doesn't have the leverage? One word about cutting aid or trade would bring mushy to his knees.
So tell me..what has Bush said about removing martial law, restoring the judiciary and holding real fair elections? squat..

1. pakis were the first people required to register and get finger printed after 9/11.
2. visas for pakis are cleared in DC, not islamabad.
3. the american government tried to get the brits to send them additional data on brit of the paki persuasion flying to the US.
4. As atif will tell you, the TSA singles you out for special scrutiny.

masadi: if your contention is that pakis wouldn't vote for the islamofascists and my contention is that the world thinks they will, doesn't that actually prove that the world is, in fact, stupid..

The world thinks, with good cause, that pakis are knuckle dragging islamist savages who'll elect the paki equivalent of hamas in free elections.
The world needs mushy as long as he's willing the bomb the tribals and use whatever means necessary against islamofascists like the lal masjid chix.

Orhan Pamuk won the nobel prize for literature, not a scientific field. That's no different from Yasser Arafat winning the Nobel peace prize. So the only muslim to win the nobel prize in a scientific field is the late Dr Salam...who isn't really a muslim..as the gravestone on his grave will clearly tell you.

Bangladesh postpones its under-19 tour of Pakistan for security concerns
DHAKA, Bangladesh: Bangladesh's cricket oversight body said Friday it has ordered its under-19 team not to fly to Pakistan due to security concerns.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board said in a statement it made the decision after Bangladesh's diplomatic mission in the Pakistani city of Karachi asked it to postpone a planned tour.
The team was scheduled to fly late Friday to play five one-day matches and a four-day match against the Pakistani under-19 side.
The team had been originally scheduled to leave Bangladesh on Wednesday but the departure was rescheduled because of political turmoil in Pakistan, where President General Pervez Musharraf declared a state of emergency last Saturday.
The International Cricket Council earlier this week halted the women's World Cup qualifiers in Pakistan, while an ICC delegation inspecting facilities for next year's Champions Trophy left the country early for security concerns.

Pakistan embassy tries to put good face on cancelled lobbying contract
By Khalid Hasan
WASHINGTON: In an effort to put a good face on the cancellation by Cassidy & Associates of a $1.2 million lobbying contract because of Musharraf’s government being ‘unsellable’ and the situation in Pakistan, the Pakistan embassy has stated that the contract was in a “trial” stage cancelled by mutual agreement.
However, the facts are otherwise. Cassidy acted honourably by saying that it was no longer in a position to deliver on the contract in an effective manner and hence it was pulling out.
Here is the text of the Pakistan embassy press release issued on Friday, “Responding to questions related to the withdrawal of Cassidy & Associates from the contract, the Embassy spokesman said that the contract for one year was still at the trial phase when during the course of the first month of association, both the Embassy of Pakistan and Cassidy & Associates, came to the conclusion that the latter could not effectively implement the contract as lobbyist. As a result, Cassidy & Associates asked for withdrawal from the contract that the Embassy has accepted, the spokesman added.”
