A Journey Interrupted: Being Indian in Pakistan by Farzana Versey
she obviously didnt scope out well, she researched the wrong crowds! i was hoping to find a broader spectrum of thoughts and ideologies but this is extremely narrow minded, it's like she made a statement confirming her fears buried in the depths of her mind, rather than venturing out with an open mind and actually encountering the real ground realities.
fine, it's her opinion, the author is entitled to that, and i should learn to respect her views, but i hope this peice is not touted about as anything more than one individual's opinion.

what a crock of bullsh*t! no wonder indians have a negative image of their pakistani counterparts, i can understand some of her pain, but in fact many pakistani's i know from my regions are beyond having a bitchy/resenting thing or two to say about indians, they're thoughts are entrenched in more pressing matters (more closer to home), and she's talking about kashmir, the people of pakistan are completely oblivious to it.she obviously didnt scope out well, she researched the wrong crowds! i was hoping to find a broader spectrum of thoughts and ideologies but this is extremely narrow minded, it's like she made a statement confirming her fears buried in the depths of her mind, rather than venturing out with an open mind and actually encountering the real ground realities.

i have a life to get on with and will not sit here dissecting bits of info excerpted from hither and tither just because you refuse to believe sharia law is anything beyond one or two overbearing mullah's you may have met.
sharia law is actually a common sense law system which is quite the practical and common sense whilst meeting the sensibilities of muslim living, it would even crack down on all these rishwat systems that go on and other complaints that we have nowadays. how individuals implement it is another thing altogether.
and yes i have many shia friends and treat them with respect, in fact i dont like dividing up sects in islam, i just accept that there are those that wont necessarily agree with me, and i them. the prophet (pbuh) didn't follow any sect and i choose to follow their example. God knows best :)
thanks tahmed32; i couldn't agree more!

akcheema, hi again, you seem to be following me around from post to post dont you?
religious groups are one thing ideot, the but a country living under guidance from sharia law (which doesn't bite) is actually positive!
you're obviously ill-educated as to what a sharia government actually entails, go do some research.
for 'literates' here on chowk a hell of a lot of you are ignorant!

this is the reason i dont join religious groups, practicing our faith is a journey we take on our own, but yes we should be sociable and be ambassadors for our faith but the thought of groups and groupies is just.. well not my thing, and thanks for confirming my reasons why.
i dont wear a hijaab but do dress demurely and decently, one can be stylish and cover oneself at the same time, would you believe that?
i believe that being a better believer and a better human being is more important than a piece of cloth covering your hair, but of course that doesn't excuse my not wearing it and i'm certainly no perfect muslim saint.
but this asra female, she is weird.
on another note though, i dont believe we should be so disrespectful to the teachers, i will always be grateful to those who taught me arabic, the qur'an, namaz... i am in no position to disrespect their efforts.

Anti-Americanism in Pakistan and the Taliban Menace
pakistan is in fact an 'islamic republic', it was created for muslims, 97% of it's inhabitants are muslim, the majority of us, we wish for the country to operate sharia law and other such laws and systems, is that necessarily a bad thing?
granted we have minorities which may feel a tad 'discomforted' by this, but actual islamic law ensures that such minorities should be treated with equal dignity, (and i am horrified when i hear tales of prejuidice and abuse towards these minorities, from a personal note; i'm very sorry!).
the basics of islamic law are actually much kinder on minorities if you'd actually research them, m. a. jinnah's speeches also declared equality towards these minorities.
if a few people are pushing towards secularism, thats their personal right but up against the majority of muslims i dont think that will actually happen too soon. i dont blame them for getting all disillusioned about islamic law when the wrong people abuse their status, but really guys, you're focusing all your angst in the wrong freakin direction!!

well written article hoodbhoy, i must say though taliban is a by-product of america's imperialistic war, it's their baby and pakistan's citizens and army are paying a high price for it. pakistan is in fact an 'islamic republic', it was created for muslims, 97% of it's inhabitants are muslim, the majority of us, we wish for the country to operate sharia law and other such laws and systems, is that necessarily a bad thing?

The Lame Duck Government
1) they have nothing to do with this topic!
2) they've lain under america's ass and in the past the brits/mughals.. govt after govt they've never actually had the guts to stand up for themelves, yet here they are, mouthing off over the internet! hah!
then they make fictional movies like mangal pandey etc expecting it to win oscars.. they dont seem to be in any rush to make a movie on haider ali, the real indian hero any time soon, do they?
and honestly guys none of you have room to speak about the pakstan army like that!!!
the afghans are going through a rough time, granted, its terrible indeed! but its america who has waged this war on them and compromised pakistan's govt to help them!
but its ok if some of you wish to live with those ancient small-minded views!
i used to despise musharraf for his ''lapdog to the usa'' image, i'm now having second thoughts, seeing karzai i feel mush still has a little spirit left in him!
