ilogs - delete and public/private options

Topic started by chowkstaff on Sep 10, 2004 2:43:40 pm

iLogs now have these options:

1. you can delete any of your entries
2. you can make any entry viewable by all (public) or only viewable by yourself (private). Private entries are shown in a grey background.

does intellectual (sic) property right law apply to one’s scribblings on this site?

i like the private/public/etc options. they are good.

I have another question.

Many people, not just the columnists, have unfiltered access to posting on the front page. Their posts appear in realtime while rests have to wait for chowk’s clearance. What is the criteria and how is that list selected and updated? Personally I am not interested in it because I wish to be treated like the rest.

Why should a person’s name appear in todays update, if the person is writing a private Ilog - basically using it as a notepad? Switching between public and private should be linked to entering and removing the username in todays update list. Why should a person click on a name when there is nothing new to read because private would be invisible to all others. Click on your own risk?

In other words, one has to click at the right time of the day to read it, otherwise author might decide to make it private at any time. It is true that Ilogs are like personal properties, but then what about chowk’s copyright @ 1997? How does copyright applicable to invisible writings?

private/public option is like a on/off option you can switch public to private and vice-versa. This option will be particularly useful when the edit option comes along and you could make an entry private until you are satisfied with it and want to make it public.

i agree with farzana.

on the other hand, while everyone has access to internet blogs, not everyone does have access to MS word. . . i for one don’t, and it isn’t always easy to convert wordpad or even MS works into Word. one of my blogs is ’’private’’ because of that. though i’m not entirely sure how ’’private’’ private is.

and the ignore option, bmk, is the loveliest. whereas there are quite a few people on my ignore list, it can be difficult to resist the urge to virtually tko some of these folk, you know what i mean? :)

Delete entries I can understand...there are times...you know it...

But ’private’ ’’viewable only by yourself’’???? Can’t people then just type it in MS word and save it on their PC, floppy, CD or even convert it into a wallpaper?

The moment you put it in on a public forum, it becomes public. And the delete option should suffice.
