Chowk staff, can we smell the coffee together?

I am impressed that you are doing something about certain interactors here. So a few questions…

1. You started the trend a long time ago with Studebaker (referred to as 12-head). I want to ask you that since his ‘demise’ on this website, do you believe the quality of the threads started and the level of the interactions on UP have improved? If so, then in what manner?

2. Your interest in what happens at Unplugged is admirable. But do not know of anyone who registers at Chowk because of UP? You seem to possess a hawk-eye for the most inane and disgusting posts. Is one to assume that UP is the high point in Chowk’s existence?

3. Is that the reason you seem to completely ignore the kind of posts that appear on the front page, where the writers are abused in language that has nothing to do with the subject being discussed? Is there an official procedure for getting people banned? I won’t be using it, I am just curious.

4. But I believe it is entirely your vigilantism. For, the interactor who has problems with the banned interactors had said on another thread, “I have not called for anyone to be banned. I have just made the decision not to interact on Chowk because various interactors like Salim/Pakshaer, jawaan, kaka, etc. continue to write sexually explicit posts about other female interactors.”

3 What would your stand be on a female interactor who tells me, ’’By all means, reward your champions. They seem to be willing to ply you with compliments’’ or, “Your sleazy servant is sticking up for you. Isnt that heartwarming?” For me this is in the same league as a disgusting male interactor asking women to service him.

5. Are sexually-explicit posts the only offensive ones? What about those that question your patriotism, your nationality, who accuse you of starting a civil war?

6. You had banned a certain person for his truly vile posts to one female interactor, regarding her community to begin with. She left for a while, but wrote in her ilog that it was not due to this person as she was not so weak. I thought her clarification was the right stand. But no, people on UP started threads about how soon she would return, these very feminist interactors were laying bets…it was party time to fire the gun from another’s shoulder for some. This is how many interactors operate.

7. Re. those threatening to leave: What major revolution is being brought about here except that the people manage to gain some mileage? Do such pronouncements serve any other purpose? Ironically, the very reason the person is leaving becomes cause for more such explicit posts. Everyone has the right to renege on their decisions (it would therefore help if they do not question other people’s decisions in other areas), but it turns out to be a huge soap opera. (eg.“With all due respect to Chowk, I may be making my own decisions very soon” -December 19, 2004 5:07am…next thread started on December 19, 2004 8:02am PT)

8. Re. banning people: People reappear with new nicks and the same skirmishes begin. Also, I have one grouse about this banning. The offensive posts of the person on UP may be removed after he is banned, but I do not think it is proper to remove all the posts of the person from FP. If I take the trouble to respond to something about my article, then my post above “user removed” begins to appear invalidated as well. Those who come in later have no clue and assume the person has been banned for saying something on that board and the writer looks rather strange to have replied to that. I don’t think it is fair at all.

I do want you to think about these points. Just FYI, there are people who have left Chowk for the flaming that happens on FP for reasons other than sexually-explicit posts.

PS: I have not named anyone here throughout this post because the issue is larger than the people, irrespective of what they themselves might think.

My best wishes for a great year ahead…
