i am reading a fine balance by ronhintom mistry, just finsihed black coffee by agatha christie and will start the spiral staircase by karen amrstrong after mistry

i am loving every minute of rohinton mistry... he has the parsi community’s way of speaking, behaving, eating, everything down to a dot without stereotyping them. dont know how but so well done.

what are you reading and as you are reading it, are you enjoying it? why.

please answer

Just finished Maximum City, a book about Bombay. Its an awesome read, esp for those who know and love the city. Author is Suketu Mehta. I read A Fine Balance on the plane to India. Great book but depressing.

three cheers for Rohinton Mistry!

Finished ’’Confessions of a Secular Fundamentalist’, thinking of abandoning ’’in the Line of Beauty’’, re-read ’’The Wheel of Time’’ series and am flipping through ’’My Invented Country’’ for inspiration.

I am reading Ficciones by Borges.
Saman, why are you reading that book?
Raw_Dust, Orlando seems to be cool.
John, yeah man you should translate it. I was also thinking of doing some translation, but always keep procrastinating.

I am reading ’’Saha Kathakar’’ an anthology of short stories by six Marathi writers. I have read this book at least 100 times before and it is still as enjoyable as first time when I read it. Someday I will translate a few of those stories in English (and they will suck :( )

I am reading Financial Statement Analysis, Text Book.
I am not enjoying it as it is going over my head because I haven’t received my afternoon tea yet, which is making me drowsy.

I am reading Ali Pore ka Aili by Mumtaz Mufti. Its a biography of Mumtaz Muftie, very simple and state forward. He described himself a feared person. Who can’t do any work with concentration The Most admiring thing in this novel is that writer present himself being a ineffective man rather than a hero. He pointed out his all negative activities. Even His adore with a woman who is mother of 6 children. In last part he also describes that how Pakistan came into being. How did he save his family from Hindus and Sikhs? in the end of Novel he describes his emotions during incoming in Pakistan. Here he creates an anxiety for readers that how was his life after creation of Pakistan. That reader can know after reading 2nd part of this Novel.(though its not latest publication but more interesting)

am reading orlando by virginia woolf.. kinda half way thru it.. the book is unique.. supposed to be a biography of a fictional character.. the biographer/narrator is a character writing about a character and possesses an omniscience like a 19th century narrator.. interesting in that this-book-is-about-itself sort of way...

karen armstrong sux ass by the way.. a total waste of time... ex-nun trying to shove people soul-food
thru her rosy retellings of middle eastern myths...blekh!

cheers
