rahul, i agree. for me one of the most powerful scenes were when he goes into the burning car and she screams when she sees him as being the same man. how she refuses to come out with him, that she’d rather burn and bake in the overturned car- and then the look on his face. it was a split second thing, he saw how bad it was what he did. also, sandra bullocks outburst after theyre carjacked and the mexican screaming when the persian shoots. in slow motion he screamt for about 5 seconds and i thought i was going to die (or kill my friend by blocking bloood circulation)

we let our experiences with people define our developing rascism and prejudices. its a basic human trait.

this was a very good movie.

Ryan Philiipe’s character was very interesting. He does not seem to be a racist. His beliefs are not based on solid experiences but on hollow ideology. Many of us may be like that. It again underlines the message of the movie; the only way to not be a racist is to get out and meet people.

It is. A black couple were sitting behind me, and their kid was making a lot of noise. The father took him outside. I went out for a bit and saw him standing outside the washroom. The kid was quiet now. The father was crying.
Coming to the movie, I felt that there was no need to justify Dillon’s racism,or redeem his character. His act was outrageous, not quite in the league of the Persian man. The Persian was racist as well, but the way he acted was a function of circumstances to an extent. Dillon had no justification whatsoever.
My friend thought the film offered no explicit solution, but I think the solution was in the first line of the movie itself.
’’We miss a sense of touch.....’’
Racism occurs when we dont know or dont meet people from different races. If we get out of our shell and meet people, we will realize that everybody has multi-hued lives. The stereotypes that we harbour are meaningless.
