ana, you know your manoj kumar.
It was Kranti and the song was Zindagi kii na toote laRii, Pyar karle ghaRi do ghaRi. I think this song was by Nitn mukesh(son of mukesh) and Lata.And yes, pani re pani was mukesh and lata as well. Manoj was another actor after raj kapoor who had Mukesh (and occasionally mahendra kapoor) as his voice.
A word about Manoj kumar.He has been panned for his shameless milking of the patriotism plus sex formula.Moreover even in the fag end of his career he could not break out of the delusions of grandeur and narcissism, but perhaps that is a necessary evil of the melodrama that is Bollywood. Inspite of these faults, he was a very imaginative director with a very sharp photographic sense . His songs were beautifully picturized from the unique camera angles that he envisioned. One example is Dulhan chali from Poorab aur pashchim.

there was this one song of MK’s - with hema malini, its a ship and its raining and it was some godawful errol flynn type of revolutionary movie i think. but anyway, the two are getting all drenched and are trussed up and the visuals are all B movie but the song was really nice. except i cant remember the song - the trauma of seeing MK and Hema in a wet clinch seems to have driven it out

mukeshda and lata mangeshkar sang ’’ek pyar ka naghma hai.’’ i think they may have also sang ’’paani re paani’’, but i can’t say for certain. it could have been mahendra kapoor. i recall in quite a few of manoj kumar’s (urf ’’bharat’’ movies it was either mahendra kapoor or mukesh who did the playback singing for him.

I don’t think the song is depressing except for the last part of it. What a line! ’’Do pal ke jeevan se ik umr churani he’’.

he other song was ’’Pani re Pani’’ and it had Jia Bahadri - one of the most beautiful ladies of Indian cinema. Who is the main girl in the film? What’s the name of MK’s wife. I think it was sort of a labour strike and Jia, Seth’s daughter maybe, had come to express solidarity with the mazdoors.
