ixno:

the name of the movie you mean? well perhaps you’ll figure it out when you finally watch it. but think of how gardeners dig and cultivate and care for plants, roots, soil, and then think of it somehow as a metaphor for ralph fiennes’s character, how he is through the entire movie.

dunno if there’s one answer to your question. it is subject to interpretation.

I liked it, particularly the way the story/mystery is unfolded, where one has to rethink and reinterpret what was shown before about the dead wife. It was not unbelievable, it was bit like an extra colorful Shyam Benegal, with a mystery thrown in.

rahul, i agree with what you say about the camerawork being so amazing in this. and fiennes has always been so good in how his characters portray emotion (or lack of it).

ana, I too dint find anything condescending in it. As movies go, this aint a great movie. But superlative performances by Weisz and Fiennes and extraordinary camerawork make this one feel out of the ordinary.
Amrita, I think his technique of taking shots is amazing. Sometimes, just that can transform a good movie into a great one.

i know. i wish i had seen ’’city of god’’ before i’d seen this. i had every intention to when it came out, but then it got on a list which just gets longer and longer.

i think he captured the environment rather well, i saw nothing condescending about it.

The real star of this movie is Fernando Meirelles who is hopelessly and pathetically unable to shoot a scene in an uninteresting way. You should also see City Of God.
