A History of Violence

Topic started by JagdeeshGodbole on Oct 3, 2005 7:15:36 am

I was writing a long post about this movie, but midway through it I realized that I was a crappy reviewer :p All I should say is, go watch this movie!

My Oscar predictions:

Viggo Mortensen will get the nomination for best actor.
Maria Bello will be nominated for best supporting actress.
David Cronenberg will be nominated for the best director.

:)
i kinda felt that way during the first kill bill. i didnt expect so much violence in my face. but then i looked around and pretty much the entire theatre was crossing and uncrossing its legs and cringing in their seats, so that made me feel better. i’ve found this applies to most violent movies.

Well the name of the movie is History of Violence; so yes - there is a lot of blood and gore involved here. The fight scenes are definitely not pretty. As for the sex, it is not gratuitous. The whole point of movie is to show how the lives of 3 people change after they are tainted by violence. There are two sex scenes in the movie. One is before the violence happens and the other, after it happens. The difference between them is very stark. The sex scenes are there to make a statement.

Russell is a motoo!. :p @ amrita

JG, I hear AHOV has gratuitous sex and violence. I am not much of a gore

oye munDeya, kabhi kabaar apne standards ko rest diya kar. :o :))

and viggo should have been nominated (even awarded) for other things besides ’’a history of violence’’ which i will probably never see even if it has viggo in it. he’s rather overlooked in terms of the academy, but it’s bloody political with them folks anyways. . .

ana, I think American Beauty was a cakewalk for an actor of the caliber of Spacey. He was not stretched at all.Same thing about Viggo in this movie.
Besides,in the year of the American Beauty, they overlooked Insider,Russel Crowe’s best performance in my book.
