Takashi Miike

Topic started by rahul_capri on Dec 25, 2005 12:56:30 pm

Takashi Miike may eventually turn out to be the most prolific director ever.He has an imaginative style, nothing like what an average hollywood n bollywood viewer may have seen. With his ajeeb o gareeb mixture of sex and violence he creates weird black humour ; in the process showing some pretty revolting stuff on camera. Always interesting, though!
I saw Ichi the killer recently and if you think you can handle on screen violence, after seeing this movie you will think twice.

Takshi Miike is SO not a one-trick pony. if you think all his films are full of violence, or rely on it to be successful, see Audition (where the violence comes in only at the end, and his style is very restrained) and the Bird People In China (violence? what violence? [-X ).

i just got the Ichi 2-disc set, and will see it sometime soon. i loved Dead Or Alive, despite the occasional sick stuff. that ending has to be one of the best in the history of cinema! B)

Ichi the Killer was the greatest cinematic experience ever fucked up as hell but I loved every minute of it.

So is mine - but am hooked. I love violence and the last semi decent see was the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and the 6 or so episodes Showtime brought out for halloween. Thanks for letting us know.

ixno, have u seen it? I found it hard to classify Miike as a one trick pony. The violence, of course, overshadows everything else in the movie, but you get brilliantly etched and acted characters of Kakihara and Ichi. They are so dysfunctional that they seem the Sean Penns and Johny Depps seem like pampered kids. The supporting acts, each of them are briliant. The ending too was very intriguing. But yes, this movie is not for everybody, at least, not for everybody with a full stomach.
