’V for Vendetta’ is a pretty pedestrian film. A lot of people have formed opinions of the film based on its message - it is strong and it is there, but it cannot be credited to the film. It has to be credited to Alan Moore - author of the original graphic novel on which it is based. As a film, the movie is weak, meandering and at times dull because it is made as an action film with just a little depth of thought. The ending, and the setup to the ending, ring false if you have read the original novel, which is a more haunting look at the condition of personal vendetta.

I also saw AlGore’s InConvenient Truth which was very good and very serious at the same time. He says that we can not afford to think like warriors and act on those primitive thoughts with advanced weapons. It is the worse combination to have backward thoughts and access to the most destructive advanced weaponry. It will just wipe us out. We have to change to survive. Adapt. It reminded me of what John F Kennedy said to his friend in a letter, ’’As long as the warrior is more admired than the peace maker there will be war.’’ People have lost contact because they sit in their homes and watch TV and then get in their cars to shop for meat in an air conditioned store. We really have to Re-Think our lives. ITs our PLANET. ITS MINE. Its YOURS. We have to take care of it. Its our HOME.

Samina I really think that not having public transport leads to hate and destruction of society. A pedestrian society is bound to be more humane becasue they will have to deal with each other instead of zipping past each other in metallic air conditioned cages. People need to see each other and walk like human beings instead of hurling themselves in shiny metal boxes on the highway like maniacs and dying like idiots. If leaders actually had to walk among the people they represented daily, then we would have a very different society. This was well known in olden times and it was considered a great shame if a ruler could not walk freely among his people. ONce you lose the eye contact with your leader he becomes a monster.

The film is set in the colonial days and Yunjia becomes a champion of the Chinese nation by defeating proud and larger western opponents. This is his last Kung Fu film. So he has done a lot of fighting with all kinds of things like sticks, knives, chains, swords. I think Jet Li’s best film was The One because he has to travel through time and fight versions of himself. And yet dont we all do that? wow. there is so much wisdom in his films.
